is there any reason we cant also offer her a dragon ride home? not for political reasons; rhaenyra just seems like the type to insist on offering a girl a ride home if she's stranded 😁 dragonknight princess rizz
 
After the points Otto brought up, I'm kinda concerned. I know we will antagonize Daemon either way, but I'm nervous. He marries Laena and now he has three dragons on his side and two of the best dragon riders in the realm (himself included). What could be the last straw for him? What could be enough of an antagonizing push to go against Viserys and Rhaenyra?

Of course, Daemon loves his brother and would never go against him, but he will fight against us for the throne. Corlys could also try to egg him on after they win the war of the Stepstones. If Daemon will only have girls, things are salvagable, but if we get another shift from canon and he gets a son? I'm not sure?

I said it before the update, but I'll say it again now. Next turn, we need to take immediate steps to undermine Daemon with the Velaryons.

Beyond talking to Viserys, we should visit Driftmark and to improve our relationship. I'm not sure who to approach. Go to Laenor and get a read on him for a political marriage? Go directly to Laena and try to befriend her to our way of thinking? We could back her up on boding Vhagar, even help her make an attempt.

Or we could try to talk to Corlys and Rhaenys directly and see what could be done but we have the least ability to win them over.
 
Otto makes some very valid points, the annulment can be a stick and a sword hanging over Daemon. We could convince Viserys to allow the divorce but only promulgate the decree at a necessary time. As something to barter for with Daemon.

I like the idea of Otto owing us a favor. Hopefully we can keep pushing up his relationship with us, he's a competent guy for all his faults.

I like the idea of making Otto our political meat shield in regards to Daemon and maybe others as long as possible.

Otto has a point with us abandoning the field with concern of the other Dragon riders, Lord Corlys and the Stepstones.
The best thing would be to Marry his Son and then push for the annulment.

As for Jeyne as much as I would enjoy just flying her back our selves I would think a flight with our dad might be a better sell. A family flight to both drop her off and spend time with our dad flying. Maybe get him to want a dragon of his own. If he enjoys it we can offer to fly him and the new wife as well….

Again that carries the risk of waiting too long if we can't hurry up the betrothal process. In canon, the same episode that Rhaenyra and Laenor get engaged and married, Daemon kills Rhea.

Ticking clock on both sides, if we don't annul the marriage fast enough then Rhea is dead and if we annul it too fast, Daemon will marry Laena before we can marry Laenor.

Thankfully Syrax is large for his age, so we have a solution here.

Just bring Alicent along as chaperone.
As handmaiden, this kind of thing can even be said to be part of her duties.

Edit: More seriously, people should consider that there might be concerns other than political for taking a person who has never flown up on a dragon (something Rhaenyra has also never done before, ) into stormweather bad enough that all ships are staying in port.

I think offering Jeyne the ride home is going to be seen as romantic, so we should decide if we actually want to go that way.

OOC rationale on other things:

Jeyne not getting back early leading to a rebellion wouldn't be the worst thing in the world either - if we helped crush it, that would get Rhaenyra some experience at warfare & possibly further her standing.

I'm not sure narratively I'd want to break up a Daemon / Velayron alliance - that sounds like a cool end boss. Also, breaking it up almost certainly requires marrying Laenor, which means no legitimate kids & likely turning the Hightowers against Rhaenyra.

Bad weather isn't great cfor flying, especially when the person flying with you has no proper gear and hasn't flown before.

There's a difference between End Boss and Insurmountable obstacle. Daemon and Velaryon alliance would literally a 1v4 on dragons, 3 of which are noticeably larger than Syrax.

Also, don't see why marrying Laenor would turn Otto against us. We just saw that even if we don't marry Gwayne, doing favors for his family increases his opinion.

Eh. As long as we manage to get our siblings on side, between them and Rhaenyra's kids it should be very doable to have enough dragons to give them pause. You have a point on the size, so we'll want at least a couple of them claiming existing dragons. Amd don't forget that the author made a note about dragons growing at the speed of plot when we deepened our bond with Syrax, so they may not have that much of an advantage there soon. The real threat would be them picking a fight before Viserys dies, but I really don't believe Daemon would do that to his brother.
 
I think if Daemon marries Laena now, she has a real chance of ending up dead in childbirth if the gets with child... (Not arguing/counting for her to die, just stating its a real chance).

Edit: Question is would Corlys speedrace an wedding to Daemon in this case or just bethrohal? Since Daemon doesnt have an Hightower to tempt him in marrying another girl?

The second makes more sense quest-wise, but "how do I pass Alicent a 'Do you like me yes/no' note?" also fits our Rhaenyra. I'm content with either outcome, really.

I can see the argument for keeping an Ottonian favor in our back pocket, but this is in character given the point about oaths.
