They're isolated and self-sufficient. Beyond that, all you can do is pray.
Well speaking of. (I was going to ask this question anyway but this is too good of a setup)

Would Mathilde be able to expand the village's shrine to Ranald into a dual shrine to Ranald & Shallya?

I'm not really sure what that would require, a priestess to bless it? A new idol?

Rather than taking half, I wonder if there's any practical sense in taking one coin in four.

For, you know. Numerical reasons. :3

EDIT:

(Inane aside, I looked and was struck by the the thought that 836 can be evenly four, but beyond that and by... basically nothing else. Not six, nor seven, nor eight, nor nine, nor ten. Just 11 and 19. Perhaps it might also be worth recommend a plan for spending 209 coins on things that protect the Fief, how however that concept can be stretched towards approving projects. Like I said for Numerical Reasons.)

Finding a Priestess of Shallya willing to go along with a non-traditional interpretation of that Shallyan myth.

I haven't caught up yet and I need to sleep, but please get Hoeth and Verena books. They have bibliothecography information in them which'll be invaluable for our library, especially with the Drakenhof books that'll come in.

So it's a bit premature but I was thinking of the perfect welcoming gift for when Eike officially becomes Mathilde's apprentice. The best thing I could think of would be a silk knit sweater. It would provide protection but still be a useful base to further enchant and wouldn't negate the need to learn Aethyric Armour. We don't want something that removes the need for spell-casting so an enchanted item probably wouldn't be the way to go.

Karak Eight Peaks hasn't worked out how to make fine Cathay style silks yet which means no fine silk bedsheets. However, Max has demonstrated that at the very least it can be knitted into a fabric. Hiring someone to make a silk robe or something seems perfectly doable and should make for a good gift.

While from what I understand we can't get those fine thread counts we can still get something pretty good. I was thinking the outcome would be something like this although in a different style.

He holds out a crudely-woven patch of silk, and you touch it dubiously. It doesn't stick to your finger, so you give it a closer feel. "Soft."
One doesn't make a claim like that in front of a crowd of Dwarves without being able to back it up, and you produce a significantly larger sample that Maximilian's inexpert fingers managed to weave into something resembling fabric

I really really doubt vampires would be arranging their libraries in a way that would make any sense to the Venerans. A vampire would not need to make their library accessible to the public, nor would they give much of a damn for the frailties and limitations of mortal librarians when they can use undead servants.

The only thing I can think of that the fief might possibly need is some sort of social insurance fund: if disease tears through the flocks and people lose their livelihoods, we want to ensure Rolf knows that he can just... buy more sheep with the tax money so that the village doesn't die. However, based on his actions and initiative in improving the herds, it kind of seems to me like he is already doing this.
Oh, and by the way, do we expect Greatsword books to help with our next swording action?

It helped with the last one, but not the ones before. It's dependent on which aspect we're training, but I don't actually recall which aspect we haven't done yet (and the specific reasons some had greatsword books applicable and some didn't).
Applicability. Mathilde tried to use books for quick draw but their favoured method was to have your sword already out when a fight starts. They had a fair bit more useful information on types of blocks to look out for.
I think hand switching is a maybe? There might be descriptions of different grips used for different purposes.

I intend to vote for the following purchase round stuff:
[ ] [LIBRARY] Colleges of Magic: Apparitions, Powerstones, Aethyr, Wild Magic
Total value 800gc and 16cf, covering two personal interests, Aethyr (whose metaphysics may be relevant to the Waystone project, specifically in the context of the Great Vortex), and Wild Magic (for better understanding of herdstones).

[ ] [DWARF] Greatsword with Rune of the Unknown, for training (1 gallon AV)
For training Branarhune, both for ourself and for anyone we might want to teach the style to in the future.

[ ] [COLLEGE] No purchase.
Saving that CF for the gigaflex.

[ ] [PURCHASE] Metallurgy: Imperial Esoteric (150gc), Dwarf Esoteric (150gc), Eonir Esoteric (150gc)
Not maxing out the Metallurgy bonus (which would cost 300gc more), but buying up all the rare books we can so as to build our knowledge base for Waystone Gold specifically. This one I'm least convinced of.

I think Andres is thinking in terms of arranging our library with Hoethan and Verenan library science in mind. It's a reasonable idea, but I don't see it as pressing when we've already committed the library to the principle of Order: we're already ridiculously usable by our patrons (or would be, if we had any).

The jade wizard option is for the crossbreeding experiment, but I wonder if they might have an idea for a plant that is:

less good at growing than regular grasses when weather is fine
Can safely be eaten by sheep
Grows better than rotweed during a drought
---

I described this in three lines. That means it's easy, right?

Edit: I'm also leaning towards explictly telling Rolf that some of the money is to be put to help with recovery if there is a livestock disease, or similar event that impacts people's ability to make a living.

I think the point is that the Verenans insights on libraries will be helpful in fitting those books in our library.

I've said before that I think the Metallurgy books are better purchased through Barak Varr. I think we're fine delaying their purchase by one turn. In any case, Eonir books on metallurgy should be available to the project even if we don't project (actually, weren't you the one who told me that in the first place?).
I think there's some merit to @Andres's idea of getting Verenan and Hoethian books for ideas on how to order our library.

Honestly I would just get the gold order to help with the waystone gold, they are the experts for it, us trying to cram metallurgy will be less effective then hiring experts.

Sure, that sounds like something someone as clever, insightful, and dare I say it handsome as I would say. Good point, I'll just leave the purchase open in case a good idea pops up.

Why not. It's not like we're doing anything else with that money.
[X] [CASH] Take half
Might change that vote if someone suggests a different amount (like, take all but 200 crowns or something). I don't feel too bad about this: we're leaving the fief enough money to handle minor problems, and we are investing in Rolf's plans of improvements, and really it's not as if Mathilde is spending this money on private yachts or anything. Sooner or later we will spend ~500 crowns or so on something that is of clear benefit to the Empire, and when that happens I'll just imagine that this money in particular was used.

Maybe buy books for silkweaving from the elves? We can also probably requisition robe from them for Eike.

I'm not intending to vote for the Barak Varr option this turn, but would you consider switching textiles to books on Bretonnia?
In fact, here's a Barak Varr Booksellers purchase plan: Athel Loren, Bretonnia and metallurgy. Those are all topics we have zero books on, so that's a maximally efficient plan, it should yield 27-30 BOÖK depending on how many dwarf books on metallurgy are available. All have applications to the project: Athel Loren because we might want to check out their network later, Bretonnia because they are a likely future partner and also because we might want to see if they have any information on something west of L'Anguille (also theological genealogy reasons), metallurgy for the capstone metal. As an added bonus Athel Loren and Bretonnia round out the Civilized Realms part of our library nicely.

We already have Eonir books on textiles. It was actually our first purchase through the library if memory serves.
