Still not convinced between the two main options.

Boris seems lower risk of them saying go away, but low reward, will need to do more I. The future before he will do things like lean on the witch's or introduce the hags to us.

Ice wizard seem higher risk of telling us to fuck off, but higher reward. (Well ice witches favour.)

I want to see more weird stuff. We already kinda know what the Ice Witches are about, so lets find out about these other folk

Wait why where Mathilde's papers different from the border guard's?

Because it was the gray college? Was it actually fake and that's the punchline?

The guard picked up 'College' and 'Altdorf' and thought Mathilde meant University of Altdorf, and those weren't University of Altdorf papers.

Also, is Boney British or adjacent? He spells using the UK version a lot "favour", "colour", and others.

Australian.

I don't get why people keep saying that. We have no indication that Ice Magic is easier to 'translate' than Hag or Hedge magic. It's weird and alien to Mathilde's understanding of magic, but so is any other non-Teclisian magical tradition.

Well, the reason is symbolism.
The inspiration for Hag Witches are witches from Russian folk tales, Baba Yaga is literally a hag witch. This magic in not really taught, not even to apprentices, it is all about "feeling", intuitive understanding and learning by osmosis. Ice witches, on the other hand, are rooted in polish and german folklore, literally see "The Snow Queen" from Hans Christian Andersen. Thus it is rooted in a more "orderly" and "academic" rather western view of magic.

The not so bright border guard probably read 'College', maybe could not understand the Reikspiel for 'Magic' and made his assumption Mathilde was the academic from Alt-dorf. So the papers did not match the book.
The Captain as you saw had to dig out a little used, infrequently required reference for Colleges of Magic papers.

Boney's commitment to authenticity is such that they live in the closest thing we have to a warhammeresque deathworld full of mutated monsters, Australia.

I'm not talking about starting the official response, I'm saying that if there is an official response already in play, Boris could directly slot us in there while Ice Witches would probably be just an intermediary.

Going to the Ice Witches sounds to me more like Gandalf trying to skip Theoden, just picking up Eowyn and leaving to 2v9 the Nazghuls. Who needs calv anyways? He would probably just have magicked out some bullshit like Eagles instead.

We do not know if there is an official reaction in curse and it's not like we could show up to the palace and say 'oops you do not know anything about this, let me go through the local authorities so they will not be pissed off'. Eowyn was not a local lady, she was the daughter of the king with no more authority than he gave her. By contrast the local boyars in the province are the one with the first responsibility and they are I think deeply unlikely to take us going over the head well.

Boris was also a man trying to sell us on moving the Project in Kiselv, not saying he was lying exactly, or that he would not do it if he bent his full political power on the matter, but he was I think shading the truth an I do not think we would get his full political power with this as opposed to the Project in Kiselv.

While he was almost certainly shading the truth he was probably shading it roughly evenly. Overstating his political connections with the hag witches but still absolutely having political connections with the hag witches.

Might switch this around later, but for now I think we've got an in with them and they are local enough to be meaningfully invested in this. That said, I'm happy with any of these winning.

Ya, I ultimately think that if we are thinking in terms of slow and steady, Boris is the guy to work with.

It will take longer, but if we can make it work he can be a major in with both the ice witches and the Hags when we actually go and try to recruit them.

This is not actually their recruiting action, it's the jades.

Let's set things up for later, rather then try and rush it in a way that can blow up in our face.

for my part I want to spin this into easily pulling an organisation into the waystone project.

Boris is a way to possibly pull both orgs in but with much reduced chances.

So assuming we successfully deal with or assist with the issue in kislev, the way I'm looking at it is high chance of pulling one org or small chance of pulling both orgs in.

I mean why are we thinking in terms of slow and steady? It's not like we know what kind of timetable we are on at the moment.
