Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
But if Mathilde only had her abilities as a Magister, she wouldn't be where she is today.
Lesson: Leader also strikes me as a (small d small t) diplomatic trait, in many ways. Lots of overlap with being someone people want to follow.

If one wanted to double down on diplomacy boosts here- Mathildes' acknowledged weakness- that'd be one way to vote.

YES. This sounds fun as hell, and is one step closer to clowning on any dark sorcerer who attempts to meddle with us. Also, messing with dhar is the whole point of the waystone thing—how useful would it be to have a sane, loyal and helpful dhar expert? We're probably the only one in the old world with that mix of skills.
if we learn enough, maybe we can do the same thing to it as we have done to Waargh base stuff and just kneecap any dark magic user any time they want to cast shit

Something like Dhar Insight... Also a tempting pick.

I'm approaching/assuming/seeing it as more of a "This is how to avoid fuck-ups" angle, sure. But, like. Isn't "how to not Fuck Up into producing a bunch of Dhar" really important for magic or great works of magic or infrastructure? Or not even just that, but...

But knowing how Dhar corrupts. How beings of Dhar corrupt and attack magic and the environment and Waystones and homes. And thus, knowing what you have to prepare against. That? That could be pretty damn vital and useful!

"Know the enemy."

That is always a vital skill or ability or knowledge trait to have. You're always better off if you know what the enemy has, so that you know how to defend against it.

... Or how to attack it. Good on the offense too.

Yeah, I've actually talked myself into being more interested in this one. Mystic is still my top pick for the Lessons Learned category, but I wouldn't be too sad if this one won. Could be neat. Could be very neat. Especially for some of our plans or hopes when it comes to things.
Leader is going to lose because it doesn't buff Mathilde's magic abilities, of which we have several choices. But if Mathilde only had her abilities as a Magister, she wouldn't be where she is today. Ironically for our Advisor quest, whenever circumstances have forced Mathilde into a leadership position, she's thrived. She's taken to leadership like a duck takes to water. And by taking on the Waystone project, she's going to be a leader of mages just as much as she is going to be a researcher herself.
Heh, imagine something like "Collegiate + Leader" for trait combos, eh?

That could be a pretty powerful wizard-social-oriented pick, no?

All the wizard-wrangling skills/knacks. :V

... In fact, Collegiate + Leader could be interesting as a combo, now that I said it out loud. And useful for Mathilde's future, as a Lady Magister.

Or Collegiate + Mentor.

Collegiate + Leader, or Collegiate + Mentor, could both be solid picks for somebody who wants to be a Wizard Lord of the Colleges of Magic.

I'm in the odd position of being OK with most options again, the only ones I dislike are knight and poker face because they sound sort of boring, everything else looks like it could be a fun addition to the character and useful in its own way.

"One of the most common elements is that they're saying you succeeded where Teclis failed. I know you're very Windsight-oriented, but I didn't realize it was to that extent."

"Oh, I've no doubt Teclis could run circles around me in every Arcane discipline, including Windsight," you say with !false modesty.
Has Mathilde discovered the only motivating force in the universe more powerful than paternal headpats?

Notably Dhar insight is the probably the choice we should get if we ever want to heal Sylvania with the Waystones. Just to point that out. Or if people still hold out hope for the Ulgu Tongs, the whole "avoiding making Dhar" aspect might help with that. Considering the flavor text, being able to note the specific line where Dhar is created could be extremely useful, and even the general knowledge might give a better understanding of what parts make the necromancy tongs possible.

Well, for specifically Waystone project Polyglot would be obviously useful, as would be, presumably, Trucemaker. It's a toss-up between those two for me.

Lessons-wise, Dhar or Theologian both seem applicable to this, Theologian for reaching out to smaller magical traditions (Ice Witches, etc), Dhar thing for figuring out what's up with collapsed waystones.

My tentative vote will be, uh
[ ] DIPLO: Interfaith Dialogue
[ ] DIPLO: Polyglot
[ ] DIPLO: Trucemaker
[ ] LESSON: Dhar Insight
[ ] LESSON: Syncretic
[ ] LESSON: Theologian

With preference within given to Trucemaker/Syncretic combo for most benefit to Waystone Project, hopefully.

[ ] DIPLO: Dawri
You've lived along Dwarves for long enough that your Wizard robes and Arcane Marks are often the only things preventing you from being mistaken for one. But you could immerse yourself even deeper in Dwarven culture and become able to navigate it like a native.
I love this trait, BUT...
[ ] DIPLO: Polyglot
If you had been unable to use Khazalid as a bridging language, there were many encounters that could have gone quite badly. There's a great deal of potential benefits to further expanding your linguistic lexicon.
This trait combined with both the Laurelorn or the potential K8P Library is sooo extremely useful...

I can't help but feel this is too short. I shouldn't even be awake right now...

I use moratoria serve several different purposes, a few of which are:

1) If a vote is confusing, it gives people enough time to raise questions and me to edit it clarifications.
2) If a vote is complicated, it gives people enough time to get their ducks in a row and hash out a broad template.
3) If an update introduces entirely new information, it gives people enough time to digest and discuss it.

None of those really apply here. The matter has been discussed quite a bit both in character and in the thread, the vote is straightforward, and I've deliberately made it so there's not really any mechanical considerations. My guess is that most people will have a solid idea of what they'll be voting for by the time they've finished reading the update and won't need debate and discussion to solidify their ideas, and those that do won't really be disadvantaged by the voting already being open for a while as they read through the thread to get an idea of where other people are at. So only a short moratorium seems needed here.

Interfaith dialogue and mystic are my top picks on this one.

We really want to be able to talk to ice witches, and interfaith dialogue works with that, and i think mystic would help with our understanding of the divine, as paradoxical as it might sound, as well as with talking to the previously mentioned ice witches.
Might also help with Damsels.

Look at it from the other perspective. These poor negaquest elves have had to spend their entire thread runtime without any dwarves at all! Who are we to deny them the opportunity to finally start rectifying their mistakes?
Let's not count our chicken before they hatch. Getting one or more Runesmiths to come to Laurelorn is definitely going to have a higher than average DC.

Except if you mean Mathilde as the Dwarf they are getting.
Mathilde is clear evidence of the rare species known as a wizard dwarf.
Does that mean that we have the option to make the 1st edition nonsense about Dwarven Necromancers a reality?

"So, Waystones," she says, and you untense as the topic is firmly changed back.
How'd she take it when we first told her that we are going to work somewhere else, which means we have to commute to be together? And that right after the expedition?
[ ] LESSON: Theologian
You have a breadth of experience with the Divine that would put many Priests to shame, and are starting to build tentative overarching theories of the Divine that many might consider heretical.
Could you expand just a little on this one? I don't want anything like mechanical benefits, but as the description is written now, it doesn't even seem like something positive, especially when compared to pretty much any of its rivals.

Up just in time for opening bells :V

No long list of pros and cons from me this time, I'm just picking what looks most fun, with perhaps a dash of what seems useful.

I'll probably filter a few of these out over the course of the vote, but it's what I'm currently interested in.
