Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
[] Merry Moon's Eye
Wisps become more difficult to perceive and gain the ability to bypass security and boundary effects of C rank or lower. If the user chooses, they may merge all the wisps into one, which extends it's range out to one Km, and increases its bypass effect to B rank.

I want to vote for this. This was our recon technique, I believe it should stay so.

invest a technique in an ally . . .

Laughing Flight of the Wind Thief

I like these options because they work as "stagehand" effects. They're not the performers, they're just assistants.

And holy heck, you know how our domain is like having a second personal domain for those of sufficient bond to us? Sharing some of our utility arts with others is so wild. Little mischievous wisps interrupt combats our allies are having like
"hey there. Looks like you wanna go fast. Need some help?
Try stealing the wind! It's a good way to zoom!"
I want to see Zhengui go zooomin

I also think the super recon force is excellent. Beeg wisp with beeg sneak

I really wanna see LQ give her mom a taste of upper level cultivation. She'd probably have fun shooting out ice beams.

Unfortunately invested allies must be no less than one realm below the user, so unless we can kinda cheat by using yellow arts that's unlikely to happen to red Qingge.

Though giving yellow arts to reds doesn't seem like it could be really abused in any way beyond entertainment.

[] Seeker's Examination
The wisps swirl and gather, circling around a single foe, scrutinizing their every thought or movement. Wisps become much more difficult to destroy, but more easily noticeable. Within the overlapping vision of the wisps the targets movements and actions are predicted greatly penalizing any actions taken at cross purposes to the user. Each wisp destroyed reduces the penalty.

So prediction on a single powerful foe by listening to the song that is their life.

I still like precog. Making Ling Qi even more slippery builds her support focus, we want to be able to annoy more powerful opponents for RenRen to blast. Comes with the trade off of the wisps being more noticeable, but that's fine with me because it seems like people hate stealth anyways. In your face information gathering would be such a fantastic way for LQ to show disdain for someone in the future. I'm thinking of Charity's owls from Cradle style, everyone knows what they are and who they belong to, but they can't do anything about them.

Oh and my idea for the name with this option is:

Melodious Lunar Thesis

The combination of both the information gathering and then also drawing the conclusion has me feeling Thesis is an appropriate word. It also includes the new music keyword and retains its moon reference.

[] Constellation's Accompaniment

So I do like the idea of taking steps towards precog, but in the end think I'm going with the support art, partially because the idea of being able to give Zhengui Wind Thief techniques is amazing, but also thematically Ling Qi being able to say 'you are now able to keep up with me' to her little brother who's been unhappy in part for being too slow in battles to stay with her is wonderful. Not all his problems, not even close, but very fitting for her domain imo.

Its an alternate mode
Cool! Definitely going for this then. Hidden Moon coolness aside, this is a seriously good defensive bonus for Ling Qi in a teamfight, making a single powerful assassin or disrupter a non-threat unless they take the time to swat the wisps while LQ's techniques remain active and uncountered.

On offense, this plus Bear God's Wrath would be great for teeing up targets for CRX.

If you have a team of yellows to buff that'd be better, but if your backup is reds, because you're a baron with limited support, buffing them with yellow arts could be quite useful.

I'm greatly inclined to Merry Moon's Eye. It fills a need for stealthy reconnaissance in our repertoire. Much of our development lately has been more overt, but information gathering and scouting arts like this has greater utility from going unnoticed by foes.

It isn't as flashy or as cool as the other options, but being able to know what lies ahead without tipping off the enemy that we know is incredibly powerful.

Note Constellation's Accompaniment can't give Reds techs, only those of 1 realm lower is the limit.

So if somone a yellow, green, cyan or higher we can hand techs off.

[] Merry Moon's Eye

I really like this option. RME is primarily our recon method and this leans very heavily into that. Wisps that are harder to notice, and can bypass physical barriers and most spiritual barriers (except the really heavy-duty ones, but we'll get there!) is super cool. It just becomes much more expensive and difficult to keep our senses out of an area.

Can we still see through invested wisps? And what happens if an ally with an invested wisp leaves our normal wisp range?

...we can already do that though? I don't think our wisps have been noticed once in the entire quest.

Merry Moon's Eye seems to be by far the most situational bonus of the bunch, in that the big bonus is only useful if we're facing anti-clairvoyance defenses on a location. It's great for espionage, but doesn't improve our scouting unless we're facing a fortification like the Hui bolthole.

EDIT: To compare:
  1. Constellation's Accompaniment is at least a slight upgrade at all times because of the additional wisps alone.
  2. Seeker's Examination is a substantial upgrade when targeted by a single powerful opponent, which happens in most big fights because everyone knows to go for the support first if possible.
  3. Merry Moon's Eye is a substantial upgrade when facing anti-surveillance/anti-spirit countermeasures, which has happened exactly twice so far - in the Shishigui village and the Hui bolthole.
The exception to this is if Merry Moon's Eye can also bypass social screening effects, in which case it becomes primarily useful for eavesdropping on people at parties and is a good thematic match with MSS.

Snooping around invisibly is very tempting choice. I feel that stealth has been both important to Ling Qi and part of fun stories. Not much to be said about that - just a good choice.

[] Constellation's Accompaniment
Number of Wisps conjured increases to eight. Wisps may be invested with techniques and merged with a single ally to allow them to use the invested technique. Invested allies must be no less than one realm below the user. Invested techniques with AOE effects become single target. Invested wisps still count toward the limit of eight.

This has a lot of fun potential and gives extreme flexibility both in and out of combat. Ling Qi has a lot of arts and being able to empower others to use them seems like it could be a new tool that could radically change how she works. I think it could be a key to new understanding on how she thinks about her station as a baron. She wields power, but so far I don't think that she has Insights about power relations.

I think that my favourite is Constellation's Accompaniment because it could be seen as personal growth on how she relates to her power and her station as a noble.

[X] Constellation's Accompaniment

These two are really nice. Merry, because i like thieves and kinda sad how LQ left it behind, but also because we have a chance to eavesdrop on others at parties :V

Accompaniment is fine this way, good thing the single use technique was added and still can be used to do ambusses or drop the same technique in the same round or staggered over multiple with teamwork.

Edit: oops, forgot the moratorium :(

I think it's fair to assume that yes, we can probably see through the invested wisps

As for range, here's what Yrsillar said

once someone is infused with the wisp they aren't limited by the range no
within certain sanity limits
basically the ally still has to be participating in the scene you're in

I'm curious as to whether Accompaniment considers Ling Qi's spirits as valid targets. Off a literal reading I'd imagine so, but it feels like a fuzzy area.

Some Techniques to use with Constellation's Accompaniment:
Joyous Toast(PLR): While our companion is within our dream revel Ling Qi and the phantom crowd cheers them on, buffing their Music, Dance or Art technique. Imagine Ling Qi's encouragement being enough to make artist cultivators do better.

Ephemeral Dreamlit Dancer(PLR): Echoes tank attacks based on the ally's stealth. The ally can also teleport when the revel does and even take another with them, though we can do this ourselves.

Black Mirror(SNR): It's already AoE so we might as well use it ourselves, but the ability to let an ally negate an A rank techs effect on them is still good.

Hoarfrost Refrain(FSS): Drain their Qi and set them up for Call to Ending.

Call to Ending(FSS): Kill button for those in our blizzard. Needs Hoarfrost Refrain so works well with teamwork.

Eagle God's Defiance, Wolf God's Cunning, and Bear God's Wrath(BKSD): Yeet eagle, scary wolf summon which probably can't lead the lesser beast like ours, immobilizing bear paw. Just a lot of goodies in BKSD which makes sense since it's an Art about teamwork for Ling Qi.

Mediators Swift Composition and Rhythm of Exchange(MoSS): Spirit and Beast Diplomacy, especially useful for musicians.

Zephyr's Mocking Escape(LFWT): Basically flight. Dodge and speed, this would let us share in the wonderful freedom of being the wind.

Breeze in the Vault(LFWT): Stealth buff and C rank infiltration similar to Merry Moon's Eye but for an ally. Not the group stealth we wanted but I'll take it.

West Wind Step(LFWT): Teleport dodge, with self-dispel for sneaks. Really good when we want to keep someone safe. PS. Don't know how it'd work with Zhengui, ask Guan Zhi.

Grinding Glacial Melody(UGM): Push back Cold damage. Really good when we advance as a group to bully our targets.
All in all there's a lot of things that need musicians and sneaks, and I'm unsure how well a lot of the others will translate in narrative but I doubt we can give Zhengui flight. It's really good when we want to shield an independent ally, or help them move as fast as us, and it sets up a few nice combos. Still not sure though.

Merry Moon and Breeze in the Vault seem to compliment each other really well, specially if breeze scales up for wind thief.

Interesting, if we keep working at it we might end up with an ability to invest people with power in more long term basis.
Could be interesting way to empower messengers and servants once we get to higher realms, probably not gonna happen anytime soon (if ever during the story), but an interesting potential for the future.

Hmph, not sure what to think of the new choices, no clear winner.
Spying is great ofcourse, ability to give Zhengui flight is hilarious and useful, and the last one would be great for fighting peers.
