I was talking about the research institute, not the library (or at least I thought that they are seperate).
You dont really need research institute to study with non imperial magic users. Just invite them to your tower in K8P out of sight of people that would have problem with it.

It's more legitimate if you have a research institute. 'Come to my tower and we'll talk magic' sounds less like an academic invitation and more like flirtation. :V

And that's the gist of my problem with how you present it: you present the position as Imperial troubleshooter, but it is not. Any imperial troubleshooting will be coincidental to the goals of Heidi, and not the actual goal. It is not position of Imperial troubleshooter, it is a position of Heidi's troubleshooter. Good of Empire may come as a result of it, but it will be a side effect of electoral politics.

And yes, it would put Mathilde in a position where she can, in theory, contest Heidi's ambition if she wants to. But, Heidi is one of few people who are probably better than Mathy at Intrigue, and it'd be playing silly buggers with Heidi on her home turf of court politics. And we cannot really trust Ranald to have our back on this one either. So, odds are, Heidi's agenda will be, within margin of deviation, actual Mathilde's agenda too.
edit: tl;dr: Empire needs a troubleshooter, but a) it has plenty of Greys and some are Lord Magisters, while Dawi have zero; and b) position is not Imperial but Heidi's troubleshooter.

This.

Mathilde: "How does one kill a Fire Dragon?"
Cython: "Kill it until it dies."
Mathilde: "..."

Well, what I mean is that there is a chance that Cython goes there and talks to them. Maybe convinces them or maybe kills them, who knows. Same with Deathfang. A nice big chance there for me to get huge problem solved without too much risk on our hide.

Well, Mathilde does have the belt, so it certainly seems possible that dragonfire will do nothing to her.

Seems too risky for me. As far as I can see it in the quest, Mathilda is very good at diplomacy, spotting unusual decisions, causing confusion, and assassinating middle-management enemies during the fighting or behind the enemy lines. Killing very powerful enemies isn't her strong side as far as I've seen, with her barely surviving that vampire freak and khornate champion, the latter killing us for certain unless kislevite wizard helped us in the last moment. Yes it was partly the result of different rolls, but that's how Mathilda understands the situation, I guess.

[X] Markgraf of Eastern Stirland
[X] Spymaster of Wissenland
[X] Bodyguard and Tutor to Prince Mandred

I've come around on Bodyguard. Still want Markgraf and Spymaster more though.

Honestly, the only option I truly dislike is the bodyguard one.

At any other time I´d be down, but I just really can´t handle rich powerfull people ignoring important threats in favour of internal bickering right now.

Wich this option is guaranteed to include in a non insignificant amount.

Politics and regional business is on the dwarf options my dude.

Being a sylvanian troubleshooter will just mean we take up the slack that Roswita finally acknowledges as just being half of her job, ie wipe vamps, compared to actual territorial management as mentioned by Roswita in the chapter itself.

Dwarves has the reclaimed hold redrawing the kislevite border maps, the canal bringing future economic boon (and marienburg troubles), Border prince shenanigans (even if we don't pick it, maybe we can back someone else up for it instead), possible repowering of ancient dwarven golden age structures, etc etc.

We have done enough dwarf business to my satisfaction. Those were not omitted by accident. Besides the troubleshooting is still more interesting to me than dwarf options or the waystones project.

I don't really think we would be ignoring problems though we are the Imperial troubleshooter so we would have to solve problems not ignore them. If we don't solve problems it would not be good for the Imperial House's influence.

Going by how close this vote seems to be, we're going to have a lot of salty people no matter what wins.

Edit: @BoneyM if one option wins by like 1 or 2 more than the other, will there be another vote with only one choice allowed between those two/three options?

Hunh. Honest question: if that's so, why aren't you voting for the Waystones project? It's expressly magical research that the Colleges are interested in, and Boney said that literally the first decision would be "who is our boss":

Because... it is too much right now. I like doing research. I don't want doing research and wrangling researchers as our main job. I like the Colleges, but I don't like being focused on them. Being in Altdorf is the middle ground I like.

We're going to have disappointed people. Saltiness is not inevitable and we shouldn't talk about it like it is. It is possible to have a vote go against you and be mature about it.

One might even say that it is expected of all posters to be mature and follow the rules even if a quest goes in a direction they're not fans of.

Sure, but I meant even if no one makes complain posts on the thread, privately, there will be salty people.

No, we're Heidi's troubleshooter. If it benefits Mandred to let a problem go unchecked, we will not be sent after that problem. In fact we will probably be ordered not to touch said problem.

It's a question of how much do you trust Heidi and what do you think her priorities are. I don't, and her priorities are as she stated - getting her son on the throne. If a province has to burn for it... oh well.

To be blunt, I really don't want to read about Mathilde going on yet another Hold reclamation expedition. Been there, done that.
That's a perfectly valid perspective. I personally want Loremaster-at-Large to win now, but people ultimately read quests for enjoyment and if you think you'd enjoy something more then voting for that is fine. I won't be UPSET if something else wins, as I hope the fact that I've spoken positively of a number of other options previously will attest, but this is where I'm leaning as of now.

Yeah except the Emperor is in the picture too. Don't just put everything on Heidi like she's some one-dimensional villain. You can just say you don't want Bodyguard.

Being fair it is also a question of how much you trust Lutipold to restrain her, given that it is his dynasty on the line as well I'm going to go with not very on that too.

What about Heidi, the woman who did enough favors for the Shallyans to be granted youth, makes you think that she's this callous?

Is there a single person in the empire as experienced as Mathilde in dealing with skaven? Somehow certain people always reduce her to a generic gray wizard when it comes to empire issues.
