I'm just generally feeling like getting to know the Knights and odd wizards out for some reason now.

Become involved with:
[ ] Ranging far ahead of the convoy
- With the Knights of Taal's Fury
[ ] Scouting near the convoy
- With the Winter Wolves
I wouldn't be opposed to either of these.

Other:
[ ] Use Rite of Way to ease the ascent
- Will only be necessary during the roughest patches
We made this spell for a reason, and this is one of those reasons

[ ] Scout the lands of the Iron Wolves
[ ] Attempt to make contact with the Iron Wolves
I also wouldn't be opposed to either of these

[ ] Investigate the 'Windfall' with the Light Wizards
- Where the Winds blowing from the north descend to ground level, which is only know to happen in mountainous terrain: here, the Mountains of Mourne, the Goromadny Mountains, and nothern Norsca.
Seems interesting

Plain gold was probably the most convenient loot we could have gotten. I'm curious what kind of corpse would have been worth a 5 on a six-sided loot table, tough.
the way to change the code had been lost with Qrech's predecessor when was entombed alive in this very safe.
"when he was entombed" or "who was entombed" "when Qurech's predecessor was entombed" or probably some other ways this could be written…

They know better by now. It would just encourage her to new heights.
s/They/I/
s/her/you/

Checks out :V

(I am looking forward to seeing if we manage to impress any of the non-K8P wizards with Rite of Way's first outing though -- or, alternately, if we trip, fall on our face, get up like nothing is wrong and we totally meant to do that, and never speak of it again, like the cat we are.)

I'll continue reading the comment thread later this evening, but before leaving for now I want to give my opinion on the Rite of Way option.

Even though it makes sense IC, I won't be voting for it. All it does is trade an increased risk foe miscasts for a decreased amount of days spent traveling and a decreased risk for ambushes. It's not something I want to lose an actually interesting chalter section over it.

No, because LMs don't tithe. It's 10% for Journeymen, 5% for Magister, and 0% for Lord Magister. That's one of the few perks we didn't already effectively have(though she's already so rich it doesn't matter).

You have to wonder if the real perk of going from 5% to 0% is that don't have to report your income any longer, which means no longer having to explain where the money comes from when your raid a secret safe in a conquered skaven combe.

I may have been the #1 person banging the drum for more character sections rather than side stuff, but I don't think this is reasonable. One of the steam wagons suffering a major engineering casualty from a bad roll would be logistically disastrous, and "getting stranded in bad terrain" is exactly what brought down Borek's first expedition in canon. So while I'd certainly like to make space for more social interactions, so we can get to know our crew better before we get to KD (which we have only a little time left for, and I'm very antsy about the people we haven't talked to yet at all), I don't think this is something we can afford to cut. Besides, I trust BoneyM to make success at this interesting to read and not just a paragraph of "setback bypassed".

Would Mathilde be able to beat a bull-centaur in combat?

We could keep a few of those coins and dangle them in front of Qrech. Or the banner of the Combe would work too. :)

Heh, the Qrech will be happy we loot his old safe rather then having it taken by bull centaurs.

This scene reminds me a lot of the Treasure scene in Monte Christo with Mathilde going by memory to loot the safe and take extra effort to sidestep the patrols.

That's actually a pretty good point, and very much matches the Grey style. I don't think it's a large effect, because Mathy was a shareholder even as a journeymanling, so there's already a lot of leeway. The core tenant of "Don't look too rich" still applies to LMs.

Though, come to think of it, that fact that Mathilde lives in a dwarf hold far from the Empire probably helps a lot on that particular point. It's a matter of optics, but your looks don't matter so much when your far out of view.

We shouldn't miscast it. We're casting it as Fiendishly Difficult (req 7) under safe conditions and with magic 9.

"The four-wheel design would have had us halfway back to Karak Kadrin by now, as long as every road on the way was solid and perfectly maintained stone at no more than a three degree incline. I should have pushed back more against the sort of Grandmasters that haven't seen the sun since they were Apprentices, but there was trouble enough with me being appointed Head Engineer and having to relocate the project would have ended it there and then. Even though the only reason it was me and not one of them was because none of them would do it."

What would he have liked to change if it wouldn't have been too much effortto be worth it? They're not using the 4 wheel design right?

Spending so much time trying to make the impractical design that the Longbeards favoured work, and going with a multi-wheel design right from the very start instead of switching over to it right at the end.

I can see why "Corpse" was on the loot table now.
I think it would have been the corpse of some Chaosdwarf abomination or the bull cantaur or maybe some new Moulder creation. Certainly some sort of insight and/or research project.

Id like to see their reactions. "I found it. No seriously it was just lying there." "You seriouly wan to tell us it was just lying there. The whole 1500 gold coins. Just lying there with no owner in sight." "Yep!"
Smugness ensues...

@BoneyM, now that the Seventh-and-Final Combe has fallen does that imply that Moulder will be setting up the Eighth-and-Definitely-Final-For-Real-This-Time-Ignore-the-Seven-Other-Times Combe?

Last two Council members we haven't spoken to. Very important that we talk to them this week or next.

[X] Journeyman Cyrston von Danling
He continues to be worth investigating, and he is under our command in any event, so it's worth knowing him better.

[X] Use Rite of Way to ease the ascent
It's why we invented it. Don't want to let a bad roll wreck a wagon.

Only if you want to see me cry.
