So, it occurs to me that the current plan has become "punch Slaanesh in the face, then head to a place where Chaos is stronger." Mathilde is continuing her subtle streak, I see.
Fortunately chaos is not generally united. This means that our chances of encountering any of the other 3 actually go down.

I hope Ranald is with us on this one, I would not be surprised if whether this actually manages to draw Vlag out of the Warp or not depends on a dice to be rolled. We're gambling - hopefully our lucky streak holds.

We're fighting Chaos so the big man should be with us by default.

So, when it comes to The Plan, here's where I think we're at:

• The expedition as a whole shifts a bit out of its way to follow the breadcrumb trail and get to the next Waystone along the way to Dum.
• Mathilde does magic stuff at the Waystone to turn off the tap and starve Vlag of magic. We assume this will make Vlag reappear.
• The expedition as a whole bunkers up for a few days around the Waystone to protect it, in case a shitload of Slanneshi demons come pouring out to try to regain their power supply.
• After a few days to a week have passed, Mathilde goes scouting inside Vlag to see if there are any cultist holdouts and to check on the state of any possible defenders.
• Regardless of who or what is still in Vlag, Mathilde undoes the "shunt this mountain into the Warp" enchantment/ritual so that the Karak won't vanish again when we turn the power back on.
• At this point, with the ritual/enchantment disrupted, Mathilde can go turn the power back on at the Waystone.

Does that seem about right to everyone?

The real question is "how do we publish a paper about this before the dozen of vultures other wizards with us do it?". Do we have dibs due to seniority or being the first to notice it?

I feel we need to resolve this now. The Chaos forces are now aware that we're aware. Whether the Karak phases back into reality or gets cut off and stranded in the warp would solve the matter decisively. I'd vastly prefer the former, but the latter would secure the safety of the expedition going forward.

Also, Pickle makes a good case that we likely caught the Slaanesh forces off guard. Giving them time to regroup and plan would only give them the opportunities to take stabs at us.

We've got the juiciest data on account of our windsight and being the wizard on location, and if we offer Max co-authorship and a cut of the credit then we can double-team all the other wizards to fend them off. :V

@BoneyM does the Expedition have any Gyrocopter rendezvous scheduled to send messages back? We used a Gyrocopter to make the trip to Dolgan territory so Karak Vlag should be well within range, I'm hoping that we could send word back to Karaz Ankor so Chaos loses any incentive to try and keep Vlag quiet by eliminating us.

Well, the Journeymen and Magisters will be able to write the onlookers perspective, but we'll be able to write how we actually did it.

I don't think you're grasping the geography. Hochland is 1000 miles away. Altdorf is 1500. Using horse relays it would take at least two weeks to get a letter to Hochland, three to Altdorf - and that's me measuring as the crow flies instead of working out the road route. The chances of there being a Wizard who is currently idle that has the necessary skills to both a) mess with Waystones and b) travel at ridiculous speeds are essentially zero. So you're looking at twice as long for the trip back, which takes us well over the month mark.
I'd be shocked if we couldn't swing a gyrocarriage for this mess. Possibly even the K8P gyrocarriage, if those aren't a common item in the Karaz Ankor's airwings. If we can, we only need to get a message to Karak Kadrin on foot. They the dwarves can send a gyrocarriage to Altdorf, pick up some Jade Magisters and Lords, and fly the gyrocarriage back to Karak Vlag. What'd be the timetable for that?

I am...insufficiently persuaded that we can actually handle these odds, even if everything else goes to plan.

Mathilde: "Max, quick, grab your gear, I've pulled a lost dwarfhold full of demons from the warp!"
Max: "Are we under attack?!"
Mathilde: "No, worse—we need to make sure I'm credited as the primary author on the paper instead of Egrimm van Horstmann!"
