To be perfectly frank, this whole idea that someone will try to kill Joffrey makes no sense to me. Zero.

Eh, it's more that being stuck with Cersei as she slowly goes insane is going to do irreparable damage. She is, after all, the reason he turned out like he did in canon. And that was when she was reasonably sane.

Granted, it's possible that an insane Cersei turns him against her, but he's eight. Children aren't exactly moral, stable individuals.

That makes not much sense to me. Cersei was a crazy bitch in his vicinity for months and years by now, while my plan will keep that status quo for... two weeks? Maybe three?

Also, you are severely overestimating the amount of stuff that can happen in that timeframe. Cersei will have barely settled into her role as regent before she dies. The only reason not to do the deed right after Robert croaks is that this gives us some leeway on whom to pin the blame for the bombing.

Personally I agree with Azel that likelihood is low that he gets killed as anyone with any sense would try and use him, or snatch regency.

As previously commented I simply would not be saddened if he somehow ended up dead anyway.

Just very unlikely unfortunately. Although KL does always have its fair share of absolute morons. Any competent watcher would be able to protect him from that tho

Edit: Paradosi did you just use the words reasonably sane and Cersei in the same paragraph? Twice!?

Cersei always kept her worse excesses out of sight of her children. When she was reasonably sane, that is. Her children do not see her for the monster she is.

Like, I might be mistaken, but I thought the plan was to destroy the legitimacy of the Baratheons/Lannisters by having the realm witness Cersei's descent into insanity?

No. There wouldn't even be time for that. I'm only expecting Cersei to piss off a whole lot of people in a ridiculous short time frame and here I have full confidence in her.

The idea is to keep her around just long enough to make the bombing conceivably the work of people she antagonized.

Well, when your right your right. She will probably execute someone important on her first day just to show she can, she is extremely skilled in making herself unpopular.

Fair enough. I might have been going off earlier plans.

I still wouldn't put it past Cersei to surprise us. The sheer chaotic stupidity that she shows canonically would impress a fair few demons.

Thing is, in all likelihood even surprising us with something, even succeeding at something for a day or two, she is still liable to massively cock it up immediately after anyway. She is in no way a threat... Unless DP is actually going to have her filled with elder horror juice, and even then she'll mess up somehow.

It's one of those plans we would have had to implement months ago to work properly. And a risky one at that.

For all we know, she will order a bunch of people executed within the week, such as Monford. Which would be a trainwreck if we had long-term plans with her, but if we want her dead soon anyway, it's useful. With Baelish having his own accident soon, Bloodraven can take over as her supplier of assassins and bad advice, ensuring that the list of suspects for her death will be longer then Balerion.

Well, maybe if a demon lord decides on a spot of entertainment. Cersei would gladly jump into the arms of Demogorgon or Lamashtu if they stroked her ego just a little and promised her untold power. But I reckon they have more sense than trying to make a pawn out of somebody so cataclysmically incompetent. Not unless the point was for her to fail, to usher in some other purpose.

In short, an actual threat? Probably not. But an act of stupidity so grand and self-destructive that it would leave us blinking in confusion? Yeah, that's right up her alley.

To be perfectly frank, this whole idea that someone will try to kill Joffrey makes no sense to me. Zero.

What exactly would be their motive? "Hurr, durr, kill babies for Viserys"? Do it because it's been a while since we had small children shoehorned into our intrigues?
There's literally zero reason for anyone. Joffrey will be king. An underage king. That means people will try their level best to control him. Whoever can claim to speak for him rules all of Westeros.

The only times when child rules die is when someone in the line of succession sees the regency as a good moment to make a play for the throne themselves, but the only ones with a dynastic claim to the Iron Throne will be Myrcella and Tommen (which is why it makes sense to send them away for their protection), Stannis (who will not murder Joffrey) and Renly (who is missing in action).

If someone can supply me a motive to kill Joffrey that isn't drama for the sake of drama, I'd consider alternative plans, but right now, I see absolutely no reason to assume he is in any danger. The ones most at danger in Kings Landing will be whoever is regent at the moment, since that is a position with a whole lot of power that can be claimed quiet easily over the dead body of the previous holder.

To explain my reasoning here, yes and underage king you are reasonably sure can survive is someone you would want to control, and unrerage king who looks doomed, well someone might 'decide' he is a usurper and try to pull a Tywin Lannister in order to make up for lost time.

Which is pretty much some rando killing him for shits, giggles and artificial drama.

There's no one around who would have a snowballs chance in the PoF to pull this off whilst being dumb enough to think this is a good idea.

Who would even have the resources to take Kings Landing? Stannis? Doran? That's pretty much it. Nobody else of the Lords Paramount has the troops to march upon the city and even then it would take weeks to raise levies and get them there. The only other option would be an inside job by using the Goldcloaks who, like pretty much most of the city, is riddled with Inquisition agents.

That leaves people like Aurane and if Barristan can't keep Jeffrey's ass safe from Aurane grade assassination attempts, he will be made our court jester.

Not every desperate person is Aurane, sometimes they are just desperate. That said yes the odds of such getting though Selmy are not good.

And if they are less stupid then Aurane, then they will realize quiet easily that they have about a hundred better options to leave the sinking ship then some idiotic Hail-Mary plot to kill the boy king. I mean, the whole world knows by now that we took a Clegane in our service. Made him our sisters bodyguard even. Even the last idiot should get by now that we accept walk-ins.

Please DP. I beg you. Don't make everyone idiots. I'm really tired of having to play all sides of an intrigue plot because nobody except us is capable of finding their own assess with both hands and a Wayfinder.

True, still Viserys has enough flashbacks from Tyrosh that I'm not going to edit the previous update. The thought that someone might be and idiot would have occurred IC.

-------4th month's preliminary RAs--------
[] Spell-Crafting
-[] Research a Greater version of Baleful Teleport [no distance limit, 8th level]
(Progress: 11/16, Cost: ??)
----[] Lya (1st body) (4d6 Progress),
----(Lya's the only viable researcher for this one :c)

[] Sand Wiper's Reach: Have Tyene retrain her Occular Spell into a version of a Reach Spell that has only +1 level adjustment
(Progress: 0/8)
----[] Tyene (4d6 Progress),
----(a minor thing, but may prove invaluable for her combat-wise)

[] Secure the Flesh Forge, and fleshsmiths, against memetic attacks
-[] Heavy defenses (Progress 29/45; Cost 600,000 IM)
----[] Vee (4d6 Progress), Lady Saenena Caleris (4d6 Progress),
----(gotta do this one if we want to abuse even more of the poor Fleshforge)

-[] Project Distilling Dreams: The Rituals Naria discovered produce divine power but not in any usable form, distill it to something that can be stored and used
(Progress 0/60 Cost 120,000 IM)
----[] Lya's 2nd body (4d6 Progress); Volantis Scholarum Branch (2d6 Progress);
----(continuing the stuff started 3rd month)

[] To Reveal the Void: The touch of the Void that corrupted the Winter Fey and much of the other corners of the world is possible to detect... if not exactly easy. Thankfully, you already have someone with an affinity for doing so. Look into Rina's class ability in order to create a method of detecting Void-touched entities.
(Progress: 0/18; Cost: 12,000 IM)
----[] Rina (4d6 Progress), Mantarys Scholarum Branch (2d6 Progress)
----(same as above, there's no urgency, but since Rina's free and she's essential to this one...)

[] The Undeath's End: The secret of the creation of the ancient and extremely potent anti-Undead poison you received from Faceless Men is lost to eons... Yet one of the greatest poison-makers the world knows is in your employ, and few other races have as much intimate knowledge of poisons as the Snake-kin, and the Drow, both of whom you have access to. Recreate the ancient mixture.
(Progress: 23/50, Cost: ??)
----[] Denys Trainer (4d6 Progress), Wyla (4d6 Progress), Naath Scholarum Branch (2d6 Progress)
----(we promised this done to out Assasin-dudes, we better deliver eventually)

[] Forge of Creation -- 2.0: With the Sarnor's pacification, there comes a much higher need for Warforged bodies than could ever had been expected. Now, that the arcane machinery of Forge of Creation was built once, it could be built again - but not without effort by those most skilled at the arcane artifice.
(Progress: 15 -- half of the original RA)
----[] Valeria the Wondersmith (4d6 Progress), Anu the Warforged (4d6 Progress),
----(Sarnor's never gonna get Necronned, schwoop schwoop schwoop converted unless we make a fuckload more of these)

[] Selectively Permeable Force Effects: Allow wards, enchantments and spells to selectively ignore materials passing outward and inward through a Force effect, allowing for more complex structures and materials with further research. Not limited to examples given.
-[] Tier 1: Gateway research. Straight upgrade for pre-existing, simple barriers, at-cost. (Brilliant Barrier can attune to the weapon systems on airships.)
--[] The first step to creating more delicate workings that interact with the Ethereal Plane, progressing along this path will first allow simple, contiguous objects to pass through Force effects once properly attuned. At this level of progress, mass and complexity is limited, and materialized creatures and objects with strong auras of enchantment will be unable to move outside of the effect.
(Progress: 0/25, Cost: 70.000 IM)
----[] Beryl (4d6 Progress), Tyrosh Scholarum Branch (2d6 Progress), Stepstones Scholarum Branch (2d6 Progress).
----(I'm not sure why we need this, but I was asked for it, so I add it in :/ )

[] The Mind's Games: The psychological effects of repeated and sustained enchantment on the mental state and brain of the average person.
(Progress 24/32)
----[] Mercy of the Soul (4d6 Progress); + Gith bonus.
----(working with Gith on this, mayhaps we get better relations sooner?)

[] A Baleful Mirage: You have recently been forwarded a set of spell-scripts and samples by which the Efreeti have been made use of to manipulate the 'Grey Veil'.
-[] While this may be a technological dead end, studying it will prevent its usage from being as effective in the hands of your enemy and may even be of some use to your allies
(Progress: 38/60, Cost: ??).
----[] Naria Lore-Seeker (4d6 Progress); Tolos Scholarum Branch (2d6 Progress);
----(just to keep working on it, I guess. We don't really have any more arcano-engineering-minded people to spare for this)

[] Undead Template Research
-[] Metal-Clad Template (Mythral and Adamantine): Unlike the Dreadfort, the Imperium has vast stocks of arcane metals. Some of those might yield exceptionally strong coatings for undead bones. (Requires Metal-Clad Template (Mundane Metals),
(Progress 0/20, Cost 100,000 IM)
----[] Elaheh Marita (4d6 Progress), Urak the Forgemaster (4d6 Progress)
----(because frankly, I don't see a better RA to set them on this month, while the Forges aren't yet warp-proofed. Qyburn can go and have fun killing/looting stuff now at least, but these two aren't really combat-focused at all)

[] Reading through the bound Daemon-tome infected with the Void:
----[] Maester Qyburn

Unused research-capable people:
Dany, Archmaester Marwyn, Ashin (Occult Historian), Maester Qyburn, Riz'Neth, Benerro, Ceria 'Storm', Svitran (2d6), Headmistress Teana.
We're running out of RAs :V

Don't we still have a lot of improved launcher research on the backburner?
It's Tiered as was written originally, so we gotta start on the base form to begin with.
Which is in the proposal, yes.
[] Inquisitorial Armaments > Black Projects: Inquisition faces challenges beyond those that can be reasonably solved with mundane equipment. As the realm grows, so does the need to supply Inquisitors with the tools to solve such problems. This line of projects intends to create a whole new tool, that, given a certain level of secrecy, will guarantee a significant rise in Inquisitors' effectiveness (Tiered research, each development requires previous tiers)
-[] Inquisitorial Armaments: Black Project "Arbiter": Create a modified version of a Launcher, the "Arbiter"-class Launcher, a modular weapon, and a base for further technological improvement, yet an effective weapon all in of itself.
(Progress: 0/20, Cost: 60.000)
----[] Beryl (4d6 Progress), Tyrosh Scholarum Branch (2d6 Progress)
----(This is irrelevant to most any PCs on our roster, but the line of RAs seems like it'd be somewhat important fluff-wise for Inquisitors and such)
