One thing I'm hoping to save up some Favour for once the current spending spree is done is to hire a Magister or two to work on the Seviroscope project. It was a valid thing for the Golds boon, so no reason to think it couldn't work (eventually).

Mathilde, with her enhanced windsight and enchanting chops, would probably get the job done faster than the average Magister but, given the end result isn't something she'd be using personally, there's never ever going to be enough of a push to invest AP in it ourselves. Give up the personal credit for a discount on the favour cost and a free prototype once it's working to hand off to Kragg, and Mathilde's contribution to the future Magitech Revolution is done.

like, even if its a cactus farm, Striland is still the type of place you need to give a small check-up every so often otherwise you might find a dead or worse village.
This is bad logic. A check lasts up to a day or two and for those two days, having Mathilde there give the place a skilled defender, but apart from that, the 'visit' action does not make the place any safer on its own.

That said, I like to pop in myself. Those interludes appeal to me.

They feel... grounding, perhaps.

that's the Oath Mathilde swore. With the death of Abelhelm it defaulted to his Heir, Roswita, who decided she does not want us.

And even then we went Vampire-killing when it became clear she needed our help even if she did not want it.

We're doing fine :)
I would also like to point out that at no point in that oath does it specify "until death". Abelhelm is Mathilde's liege from that day on and Mathilde still serves him.

If you looked it up, I imagine that detail of the oath can be traced back to what is now Eastern Stirland.

Nah pretty sure that got passed down to roswita and then she gave it up.

Belegar's our liege now.

Abelheim can't be our liege because he's currently dead and not on this plane of existence.

Get him back on Mallus and then you have a case.

It's a feudal title. It is entirely possible to be both a Dame under the authority of Roswita as well as a Loremaster under the authority of Belegar.

When William of Normandy conquered England, he was, simultaneously, the vassal of the king of France as the Duke of Normandy, and an independent ruler as the King of England.

And that's not even getting to the mess that was the average list of titles for a noble in Europe during the Hundred Years' War.

Yes, that is what the law is being interpreted as, but that's not what the oath actually says. If Abelhelm asks her, Mathilde is still honourbound to follow him unless she wants to take a slayer oath.

Good thing Abelhelm is a reasonable person who probably won't ask us to do anything too crazy, and limit himself to reasonable requests like "Can you please bring me back, my children are missing me".

Why... why do you do these things... who hurt you?
It is worth remembering that his pursuit of infinite arcane power and transcending human limitations has made @ninjafish a staunch advocate for Dhar research and a reliable member of the necromancy faction.

People are quick to assume that all necromancers are like @Omegahugger, but we are a diverse group with varied reasons to seek dominion over the realms of death.

He can't ask us anything because he is dead and not on Mallus

Belegar however, can ask us stuff because he is still on Mallus.

The one we can actually communicate with and execute the orders of, is our liege pretty much by default.

As I said, get Able back on Mallus, then we have a proper, high tension, dramatic custody battle on our hands! MMMMMhhhhmmmmmmm Sweet, Sweet Drama...

Also yes, I am mostly on the necromancy side because I think both death and the natural order of things are for losers and that winners don't let gods or biology tell them what to do!

If I want to create an Undead Frankensteinian chimera between a Giant, A Dread-saurian, And a magma dragon and then release it on Nippon for performance testing then I damn well will! Fuck the articles of magic or the laws of the gods!

Guess we should finally follow up on the...three social votes for stuff we turned over to the colleges then?
We get the favor for those (if there is any) eventually even if we don't spend actions on it. The actions are just a chance to hear at length about what's happening, rather than "The Gold College was not able to replicate your looted frabjurator but they've started using the one they have to grow left-handed grounding rods. +3 favor."

To the people who are voting for no college purchase, you may want to approval vote for the 5 favor purchase if your goal is to minimize the favor expenditure. Light's Demand is currently six votes behind Dragon Breath, and there are seven votes for solely no purchase.

Nah, Ranald and other so-called deities are capable of letting their opinions known despite not being on Mallus, so it's clearly possible. No, the fact that Abel hasn't made his desires clear have to be sabotage on a divine plane.

I instinctively want to blame the God of Deceit(R a n a l d) hovering over MAthilde's shoulder, but while I can think of many ways he benefitted from Abel's untimely death, I can't think of any reason he would want our first liege to stay dead. Except maybe anti-unliving prejudice, that crap crops up everywhere.

Also yes, when Abel returns the resulting drama bomb will be absolutely delicious. Especially now that Mathilde's heart has dared to love again.
