Should be able to get enough genetic material from the small snake if we regularly draw blood from him. Not as good as a whole body, but I think it should suffice.

On a related note, how are the Myrkdreki Wyrmlings doing? Any got adopted yet?
We haven't seen them out in the wild yet, so to speak. I imagine they're starting to become a more common sight around SD and Gogossos.

  • [X] Hunker down behind the barriers through the first charge before ordering the counter charge
    -[X] Groups:
--[X] All the Plant servitors assigned to this front will begin using their Entangle SLAs to interfere with the enemy charge, as will any Legion or Scholarium mages who have prepared the spell or have Entangle spell scrolls. The first round of Entangles will be aimed to affect the largest groupings of enemies as possible, the second will be placed in such a way as to provide an additional obstacle between Brilliant Barriers and Walls of Stone to hinder any attempts by enemies to charge through these gaps, and the third round will be reserved to use against the enemies when they attempt to reorient and charge again.
--[X] Each Erinyes will focus their Gravemarker Arrowfire on one or more enemy horses which have been snared in an Entangle effect, with the goal of attracting other horses within the 300ft radius of the arrow's call so that they too will run into the Entangled area and become trapped.
--[X] Moonchasers, Manticores, and Wyverns which are covering this front, or which have a good firing solution, will direct Explosive cannon rounds and Beetle Bombs to target large concentrations of enemies who have avoided becoming Entangled or affected by the Gravemarker Arrows before they can close and attack our forces. If the charge is blunted or halted, they will then turn their attention to those enemies who have been snared in the Entangle effect, destroying them before they can escape.
--[X] All 12 Heralds assigned to this front will use their Fireball SLAs to blunt any segments of the enemy charge that seems to be close to engaging our lines. They will also act to prevent enemies from slipping through the gaps in our defenses, using their breath weapons and engaging physically if necessary. Negative Energy will have no effect upon them.
    -[X] Individuals:
--[X] Vee will send any Elementals or Summoned creatures she has already conjured to aid the Heralds, then have them move beyond our lines to take the fight to the enemy before they can regroup or break through our defenses. She will continue Summoning Elementals to both attack enemies and bolster our lines. If she sees a good opportunity in between Summoning to drop an Earthquake spell on a large group of enemies, she will take it.
--[X] Teana will do the same as Vee, first sacrificing three 6th level spell slots to Summon a trio of Triceratops, then tossing Fireballs at enemies or creating additional barriers using her Shadow magic.
--[X] Waymar will cast Fireballs into large groups of enemies or direct pinpoint Lightning Lance attacks against targets which seem more powerful or threatening.
--[X] Benerro, Melisandre, and Relath will act as they see fit to support the above strategy.

@Crake, I think a good CR 6 tanky charger would be an Advanced Thorny Rhinoceros.

They're Large-sized and have the Powerful Charge ability. The Thorny template works well for them, providing Plant creature immunities while increasing their speed, toughness, HD, and damage. Not only would their charges inflict an extra 1d6 damage, but any creature that makes a melee attack against them would automatically suffer 1d6+8 damage.
...how can you use something covered in razor-sharp thorns as a mount?

And I wouldn't say "very carefully", you get jostled around a lot when riding.

Well, you can either prune a section down to put a saddle, or just not use them as mounts. They would be sentient, after all, if not particularly bright.

EDIT: Oooh, maybe they could pull chariots? Watch out, here comes the Thorny Rhino Charioteers!

I mean they work fine as warbeasts, but I would prefer my warbeasts to be of human-level intellect, or guided by a rider.

The pruning idea works for me if it works for DP.

INT 6 is stupid Human intelligence, so roughly equivalent to at least 10 percent of the population.

Does advanced make animals sentient? I thought it just made them very clever.
I think there is some flexibility there. We've used it in the past to raise Intelligence to sentient levels.
Im not sure Its good for them to be that intelligent?

Has every animal we slapped the advanced template on become sentient? That seems funky to me.
We only make sentient servitors, so that hasn't been an issue.

Advanced doesn't raise the INT score when the base INT is 2 or lower. There are a few plant templates that grand 3d6 INT though.

On a different note, I've been messing around with Blender a bit, due to the Warspider pictures all being a mit meh. Not sure if I will continue working on this and the body is still clearly a placeholder, but I thought I might as well post it.

Interlude DCCCLVII: Battle of Smith's Sorrows, Part Five
Battle of Smith's Sorrows, Part Five

Twenty-Third of the Second Month 294 AC

As he looked about the field of ruin, a thousand perilous sorceries clashing one against the other, upon the wall of cursed bone on void black hooves, and grasping vines, Tanura wondered what it was that drove mortals so to charge heedless of their peril into the belly of the beast. The dead he could understand all too well, he could recall still hate, rage and helplessness, the slicing of flesh and the breaking of bone to forge that wretched ship.

The great bull pawed the earth and uneasily tossed his head, a corona of flame hanging in his wake. If I had recalled myself then and gained dominion over that foul ship I would have become a thing not so far removed from them, filled with spite and rage, with the will to shatter and ruin. But still he wondered what drove the ones in armor of flimsy steel, their lives so brief and fragile, to stand against a foe that could still charge through great plumes of flame and were so skilled in sorcery they could cast furies from the sky to be trampled by their hooves.

They had done their duty still, the black winged angels with their gravestone arrows. Aye, even the pair that had perished for every hand turned against them was one less to wither the grasping vines. The charge was halted, the spear of the enemy's advance blunted. Here and there chariots in twos and threes hit the lines, the black fire wrapping around barriers of light to grasp briefly at living flesh.

It would be over soon, Tanura thought. The greater battle fought in the center of the line where the Great Corpse would show itself at last. Then out of the corner of his eye he caught a ripple in the air, like haze rising from a great blaze, and from that place which seemed to his eyes empty he could hear still through the din of battle the creak of chariot wheels and he knew then that the furies' death had not been mild mischance.

They had been killed to break the pattern of watchers, to force the remainder to fly higher out of harm's way. Under a veil the greater of the enemy champions still rode... right towards the bright banner of the Brightscales. One last spiteful goring before the end. Tanura could almost admire their tenacity.

"Enemy champion head towards the banner. Ware the sharpest horns," he sent to the chirping presence of the sky-blue dragon in the back of his mind.

There wasn't time for anyone else to get there in time, neither angel, nor herald, nor champion. Tanura charged, setting the grass alight in his fury. He smashed into a chariot, a spear cold as ice in his side as the veil shattered. One corpse went flying from his horns, another trampled beneath his hooves. Somewhere to his left a sorcerer chanted words of death and ruin.

"Let the sky fall," he called to the little dragon.

The great bull did not fear flames from on high, but those around him had reason to be.

Overall result: Suicide charge shattered, enemy engaged piecemeal, enemy command trampled and incinerated by manticore bombs

Losses
  • 2 Erinyes killed
  • Minor for the cavalry
  • Light for the Assault Infantry

As he walked forth from the flames Tanura could feel the air grow heavy and cloying, a tomb with sorrows thick. The Great Corpse was rising from his tomb one last time and yet for all his valor and strength he quailed, then he looked up at the bright metal ships and the looked around at the rows of soldiers at their duty, and he was comforted in their company. From that day forth he understood them more.

Beware of the Spider-Box!

Was thinking about calling them Warstriders rather than Warspiders. Seems like it might fit with our naming themes a bit more?

Here's an edited version of the chapter, @DragonParadox.

Highlighted a piece in red that seems to cut off and is missing some words.

[X] A Guardian Naga
Alien perspectives are the best perspectives.

That was a neat POV, @DragonParadox. I think that was the first one we've had for Tanura? How is he doing on Planetos? Does he mind fighting the Undead with us?
