I don't log in while at work, but this is important (and cool) enough that I took an early lunch to get my two cents in. I'd like to point out that it'd be a real shame if someone cast a number of Supreme Curse Terrain spells using wild arcana to get around the material component requirement. I'm pretty sure the effects list given in the lesser version isn't complete since it doesn't have any hazards that reach the maximum individual CR of the higher versions, so we might be able to mix in some other more useful effects.

From that list we could use bottomless pits, and from the special hazards list things like Dweomer Sink and Prismatic Mold would make the next 10 miles of their March interesting. It'd especially suck since the only way to break such a curse is to cast Hallow on the area after using break curse on it, and these guys almost certainly can't do that, so they can either eat what we serve them or expend some fancy bullshit suppressing it instead of doing something more aggressive with it.

[X] Crake
I've always been unclear on how effective that lines of spells/curses really is. They could be really awesome if the Hazards proc often enough, but even having them trigger frequently in a ten mile circle might not amount to much.

If need be, we could use wild fire bombs as Arty. Though we do need to invest in more AOE weapons. The other are going to have one hell of a larger host than this, so we need way more AOE damage to kill the chaff.

Part MMMDCIIII: Paths Swift and Tangled
Paths Swift and Tangled

Nineteenth Day of the Second Month 294 AC

Ten hours could be a very long time. A ten hour feast would be enough to set one's mind wandering to how to politely or not so politely show the guests out, a ten hour ball could be exhausting to the mind and the ears even if the legs held out, and a ten hour financial meeting would almost be enough to keep up with the month's tax shifts. For moving an army in ten hours is a short time indeed.

You have never been more satisfied with your decision to build the legion as a professional army from the ground up than you are in those first hectic moments. Though the camp looks like an overturned anthill of rushing messengers, shouting officers, and marching columns to the tune of marching horns there is never chaos, never a moment when you feel you have to step in to order the ranks or bolster flagging spirits. If the order says they are needed in Sallosh, then back to Sallosh they all organize themselves to go.

By contrast evacuating the city of Sallosh by the Silver Shore itself goes less smoothly. Thanks in no small part to Yrael's investigation and the banishing of several malicious wraiths weaving curses of ill fortune the fear of the restless dead had receded. Unlike the Legion they had not seen the armies of the dead streaking on the horizon like a black tide.

The strange cloud was surely only a cloud, nothing to evacuate the city over, leaving all their belongings to the whims of fate. You had heard all that and more within a quarter of an hour of entering the city to help an overwhelmed governor move his people to action.

"People are worried about being stolen from, they are worried about their houses being destroyed in the fighting, and they are definitely worried about the rumors that you will be bringing an army of the dead into the city, Your Grace," Vargo Alexi explains very much in the tone of a man expecting you to deny the last.

There are worse sins to find in a governor than not reading his correspondence on time you suppose. "Those are not rumors. You can expect our allies from Sathar to join us in the defense of the city."

The best you could say of Vargo's reaction is that he tries to hide his horror at the notion. "Your Grace, the people might riot. We have just gotten the malicious dead exorcised, the terror laid to rest, and now to have an army of corpses walk our streets when most of the people are asked to leave their homes behind to their wiles. The citizens trust the Legion of course like everywhere in the Empire, but with this...."

"Will they trust me?" you ask, doing your best to keep the frustration out of your voice.

"I..." Vargo hesitates. "Of course, Your Grace, but you will have to speak to them. I'm not certain how..."

You on the other hand are sure, a mirror speech, perhaps with the queen at your side to impress upon the people of Sallosh the seriousness of the situation. The question now is what to say.

How does Viserys persuade the Salloshi to evacuate their city?

[] Write in

OOC: Some mixed rolls this time around, good for the Legion, bad for Vargo and company. On the other hand this is a problem that is more straightforward to sort out than the other.

Here's an edited version of the chapter, DP.

Holy crap you write fast sometimes.

The best you could say of Vargo's reaction is that he tries to hide his horror at the notion. "Your Grace the people might riot. We have just gotten the malicious dead exorcised, the terror laid to rest and now to have an army of corpses walk our streets when most of the people are asked to leave their homes behind to their wiles. The citizens trust the legion of course like everywhere in the Empire, but with this...."
It shouldn't be that hard. There's been trouble with malicious dead, but the people of Sallosh aren't unaware of the friendly ghosts giving their leader advice.

[X] This is a temporary disruption to their lives, but living on these plains have never been safe, this temporary stillness, this short reprieve from the chaotic raids and the nigh institutionalized fear of what lay outside the walls of their chosen city, merely replaced by the frenetic activity of the dead before they go into torpor again.
-[X] Viserys has pledged to resettle this land, make it a good home for the people still living here and those who might come to live here in the future, but no one will ever be safe to do so until the unquiet dead can either find rest or new life, new purpose, once again.
--[X] The people here have been living under the threshold of death's door for some time, on some level they already know all of this. There are powers abound who retain life's reason, the memory of things that are not vengeance and are not envy, that do not result in dragging the living world down into the dark with them. Queen Namaaru would not defile their homes--for they are the memory of what was, and what could be once again. (You would invite her to share a few words if she wishes.)
---[X] And there are some, who sadly, you must face in battle, for they will find no rest but the blood soaked earth. You do not want it to be Sallosh's people who soaks that earth.
----[X] If things go well, the consequences are merely the Crown helping to alleviate any concerns they might have of this occurring once more, through all the powers and resources it possesses, or any financial harm this could have done to the settlers of Sallosh. He asks for their trust and patience.
