Life stuff forced me to step away from this story since March, but rereading it the last couple of days reminded me just how much it's a balm for my soul- thank you for giving us something special, Yrs

Welcome back to the Ling Qi Boss Monster Quest. Every vote counts right now.

You have a choice between - Moon Map Exploration (Plan Rainbow and Glitter)
or
Art Modding HDW (Plan: Whispering on the Wind)

or some other 3rd choice, i dont know.

Honestly, I think now's as good a time as any to seize the narrative opportunity the Moon Map/Exploration represents, especially since we know the Weilu corpse is stirring- that's a potential plot hook I'm very interested in. Art modding, while important, doesn't necessarily feel immediate to me.

[EDIT] Read up more on the argument, ended up agreeing with Whispers

With that in mind:

You are explaining the art mod option badly. We know that any perception talisman purchase, which both plans buy, will trigger a Lin Hai arc. We know that our biggest wish regarding perception is somehow building on the musical perception that Ling Qi did in both the Sect military exercise vs barbarians and underground vs the shishigui.

A HDW mod is specifically attempting to change the art.to better focus on the musical perception technique that it has and the idea of communication via music.

It is not just an experiment and really isn't because there will be no time for art modding after this. It's a tie in to a major arc in next month, esp not only with Lin Hai but also idol Hanyis musical performance. It builds on the themes already present and primed over there past few months.

[X] Plan: Rainbows and Glitter

We gave Su Ling a month, and she lost both a rank and a tier of rewards. Introducing her to the Wang Group doesn't really mean anything, now, so.

Let's start putting together another group with her. Exploration should be a good justification for pulling in Shen Hu and Su Ling on a mutual fun excursion to get her rolling, yeah?

Yeah, Katreus is right. I think it's important to note that tinkering with HDW is part of a holistic approach to a closely related set of circumstances and narrative cues. And as far as productivity goes, having even short-mid-range communication capability would be incredibly useful in war efforts. There's a reason Bian Ya has been getting run so ragged by the sect's demands for her skills. Granted, we're not going to be close to operating at the scale she's capable of; but for our own purposes, and capabilities, being able to coordinate with nearby allies is really important. And it plays with her themes of connection/loneliness and general trajectory of attempts towards unfucking her counterproductive instincts there.

It's also something I expect Sixiang to be able to either contribute to or learn from, which should reinforce whatever results we manage to come up with.

If you look at exploration, it seems a bit more questionable in terms of "Why is Ling Qi doing this?" considering the ongoing conflict and how all the goals Renxiang has given her are related to social interaction and continuing to contribute to the sect. Some argue that going exploring is built on the desire to find something to make Ling Qi stronger, but there's one big flaw with that reasoning. Ling Qi can't make substantial use of anything she finds right now. Spirit stones and sites are going to be marginal improvements over what she has now, nobody and nowhere has appropriate talismans lying around for her to loot, she's at basically negative space for fitting new arts at the moment and replacing anything would be a humongous headache and wasted progress, she she can't make use of rare materials she finds.

Admittedly, there was spooky stuff going on with the Weilu corpse while we cultivated Wind Thief, and there's a soft-promised "moon" arc to fix our flute situation somewhere out there. However, we know where the Weilu corpse is, poking at it wouldn't be an "exploration" at all, and we should really have the next level of Wind Thief cultivated so we have a better chance at interacting with the spatial tears without dying anyway. As for the moon arc, it's basically just too soon. There hasn't been any buildup, Ling Qi's still in the middle of disorienting interpersonal drama, and It would be narratively inappropriate for Ling Qi to embark on a moon flute quest in the same month that Hanyi is having her big debut. It's clear exploration can't actually strengthen Ling Qi, definitely not compared to having a functional comm art.

I don't imagine Su Ling would come with us unless we kidnap her
she learned the hard way were a lightning rod for bringing trouble when exploring shit.
I'd also like to see HDW see more use since it's been collecting dust for only using 1 tech even though we have an insight from it which is a bit crazy.

It's not like we can really explore with Su Ling anyway? Not if we're approaching the exploration with the attitude of getting stronger in preparation for the war efforts, anyway. Su Ling's far enough back cultivation-wise that it wouldn't be appropriate to bring her along for the kinds of risky environments Ling Qi would need to brave for a realistic shot at getting something significantly worth her time. Not that I'm not skeptical there actually is anything that could be worth her time; I'm very skeptical exploration can pay off, even assuming an excellent dice roll. Ling Qi just isn't in a good place for laundering loot into power, atm.

And if people are worried about Su Ling's sect rank, dragging her around the countryside probably isn't conducive to her boosting its trajectory.

The thing I was most disappointed about with Su Ling reaching inner sect was that we didn't bring Li Suyin along to have a little congratulations party together for old times sake. Let's make up for that now. Li Suyin had a great time on her last adventure with us (or our adventure with her), she can help us peer pressure Su Ling into coming along, and just like that we've got the band back together.

Except Li Suyin is doin sect work with elder supervision against the Shishigui and either way their both tasty tasty snack's against anything we can throw down with at our current level and moon shenanigans can alter Suyin like we almost were with the moon party at the tower.

I'm very skeptical of the notion that we can include others on New Moon Map exploration, given that it was a gift from one of our patrons whom as far as we know none of the others are affiliated with. Have we ever taken anyone on New Moon scouting?

Just because she's doing work with an elder doesn't mean she has zero time for anything else. If we can find time to hang out with friends then anyone can. Heck, even CRX can find time for the odd tea party. And interesting doesn't necessarily mean dangerous, but if it makes you feel better we can ask turtle boy to come along too, we did basically agree to try to help him make friends.

Fair enough, I was wavering a bit for a while, but here we go.

I'm really curious to see what modding exactly looks like practically, so going with this, but I won't be unhappy with moon exploration either.
