I distinctly remember DP pulling that same trick with Viserys once a long time ago. Azema's mom, whatever her name was, somehow showed Viserys his bygone life as the Beggar King.@DragonParadox I'm expecting you to try to have an enemy show Waymar his death at the hands of the Others in this arc from the canon timeline, and for Waymar to shounen hero his way through it like a BAMF.
Yeah, it seems a pretty big theme in this quest. Dany had a "could have been" flash of a not!memory too.I distinctly remember DP pulling that same trick with Viserys once a long time ago. Azema's mom, whatever her name was, somehow showed Viserys his bygone life as the Beggar King.
Are you talking about our discussion with R'hllor when he said the champion was meant to be Dany until we somehow turned fate on its heel and became the closest thing there is to Azor Ahai, or was there another moment?Yeah, it seems a pretty big theme in this quest. Waymar has yet to have his brush-up with his canon death, I'm expecting it to happen this arc.
Nah, we were meeting with the Dothraki at some point and it was on her PoV, I believe, and she had a bit of a deja vu moment. Or I guess a Seer moment, holding a fragment of a lost future. Are you talking about our discussion with R'hllor when he said the champion was meant to be Dany until we somehow turned fate on its heel and became the closest thing there is to Azor Ahai, or was there another moment?
As an addendum to the above, I was expecting Richard to have a weird deja vu moment when he encountered Thoros of Myr, though it could still happen if he ever meets Beric Dondarrion.
It's fun when you lean into "Richard was Lem" angle, seeing as how Richard doesn't obfuscate his noble nature by acting like a thuggish peasant (and Lem in canon sometimes slips up and speaks more eloquently).Richard does not really have much of a mystical bent and what little magic he does have manifests in the eminently practical form of smashing spells down their casters' throats.

Not quite. I believe the artifact is destroyed, so we'll have to hand the corpse off to Qyburn instead. @DragonParadox, is the artifact still viable?So...our greed has paid off? If we can control the flow of Undead from this portal then maybe we can get samples for Qyburn...or we can grand sacrifice this bitch.

Still not bad, honestly. We can make something decent out of that.

I know this post is old, but I was catching up with the thread and wanted to mention that I've been giving this issue some thought. Specifically, what angle gives us enough leverage to begin the research project. How hard would it be to make fire-based undead? Or positive-energy undead? I know the former definitely exists as we've seen in Valyria, but the latter sounds far more esoteric.
Sounds like a project for Melisandre!I know this post is old, but I was catching up with the thread and wanted to mention that I've been giving this issue some thought. Specifically, what angle gives us enough leverage to begin the research project.
I think a good place to start is with a scroll of Animate with Spirit. It's not actually necromancy, but it is a mechanism for sticking a good aligned outsider into an abandoned meat suit. An outsider is basically a physical soul, so figuring out how this spell allows a good aligned spirit to empower and animate a corpse is about as good an in for the topic as I can find.
Step two would be either finding sub-sapient spirits of positive energy to apply SCIENCE to until the mad cackling stops, or to Frankenstein something together inspired by our existing research.
Specifically by studying Soul of Light (and possibly Soul of Order) and how they might be applied to the soul forged undead creation process.
Something in Animate with Spirit allows things like good and positive energy aligned outsiders to animate a corpse in some fashion. The soul forged template implants something like a soul into the body, and the Soul of Light spell infuses the body with energy drawn straight from the positive energy plane. It specifically does so strongly enough to count for alignment spells.
If we could figure out how to abuse the open channels to the our planes of interest to shape the soul-constructs into something aligned to positive energy and law, then use the animation mechanism from AwS to let it control the body, we'd have something close to positive energy undead.
I'm still looking for a better approach, since this one is so speculative and research heavy, but I figured it was worth mentioning the idea at least.
It's kind of hilarious that we've gotten to the point where she'd actually consider helping us design vegan necromancy. That seems like the kind of thing Mel would immolate people for before they even got halfway through the question.
