We already had a turn with Su Ling though, I wanna include other people too. Maybe if we end up talking to Guan Zhi and tell her what happened, she'd praise ZG for his contribution. That might help cheer him up.
Bian Ya would also be really good at that, she's got some real social manipulation skills. Consider she cultivates Wood maybe she'd know some Wood techniques for soothing spirits? ZG is part Wood, maybe it'd be compatible.

I wonder how happy the planners and cartographers in the Sect are going to be with this new information. It'll be a huge boon in trying to figure out different paths that could be taken to the surface and vis versa. I also wonder if anyone will want to congratulate her on the matter and get a face full of Ling Qi's disgruntlement regarding the situation.

While the cost was depressing and painful to read, it really did give the sect valuable information and got us through to the enemy territory in a relatively untouched fashion. This will likely be looking good for us in the after mission brief.
 
Mmm, I really kinda feel like talking with our spirits is just kinda navel-gazey, and is a bit of a waste of the event?

It's better left until after the mission I feel.

I will approval vote anything with these two. I absolutely want to talk to Zhengui, and Xuan Shi seems like a good base to touch after we got more insight into what xuanwu perception is like, and he is also a good choice to help Ling Qi calm down, since she's currently way on edge.

We know what's up with Zhengui, and there is zero reason to talk to Xuan Shi about it, especially considering Zhengui has issues with him. And hell, we want to be getting to know Xuan Shi outside of the lens of awkwardly shoehorning Zhengui into our only reason to interact. Narratively that's arguably the entire reason he's even here.

Like, I agree I'd expect LQ to check in on Zhengui and give him headpats, but I also don't feel that needs a scene. Maybe a couple of lines at the start of the update.

I think we want to do Hannyi + Ji Rong actually. Maybe add one more in.

Because Hannyi is just so... Out there, and she definitely felt like she had something to say about what just happened.

Ji Rong clearly also had something to say but also shut his mouth which means he would have had a chance to actually think it over instead. Which could be curious.

I think this would make for an interesting scene - Hanyi serving as an icebreaker and energetic counterpoint to the more neutral and detached Guan Zhi. I'm also genuinely curious about what Ji Rong has to say here, as it actually looks like he's not running his mouth and actually thinking about his words, for perhaps the first time in the story.

yrsillar is giving us Sixiang for free; I see no reason to believe he is giving us Zhengui for free as well.

This is a good point and ups my interest in Ji Rong.
 
Poor Zhengui. We know what's up with him though, and we know he's okay at the moment, if not great. He should pick up some when we come to the end of the mission and he has the opportunity to live out his aspirations we know are still intact: fighting and showing off. I'd be more worried about Hanyi, actually. She's upset by what happened, but she didn't get to contribute. She's probably feeling like dead weight, and I'm ildly worried she'll go overboard later on in the mission if we don't touch base with her.

So here's the thing. Hanyi + Guan Zhi seems interesting, and it relates to the mission, so it's a context where Hanyi can become immersed in positive contribution to our current efforts. Hanyi + Ji Rong will probably be funny, because as I recall she doesn't actually have any beef with him, and how could he possibly be rude to such a cute and refined young woman? Ji Rong seems to have seen a glimpse of a Ling Qi he can't help but respect in the aftermath of our deal with the fungus entity, and he's already shared professional words with Guan Zhi. Guan Zhi is also basically the most neutral person when it comes to Ji Rong that there is out of anyone here. Moon sempai is too much of a meddler and on Ling Qi's "side" to be a reliable inclusion, imo.

Basically, this is a surprisingly neutral group that can branch out in a lot of ways for everyone involved. I suspect Hanyi's a good icebreaker for levering more characterization out of either Guan Zhi or Ji Rong.

But I'm also going to vote for this, for two reasons. One, I agree with others that always trying to pair Zhengui and Xuan Shi together is problematic, and Hanyi is a good alternative to that who has engaged with Xuan Shi of her own initiative in the past, so not starting from nothing. Two, Hanyi doesn't have any skin in the game in terms of enmity with Ji Rong, and injecting her into the grudge between him and Xuan Shi seems adorable and oddly not entirely hopeless.

Edit: oh, and three! Hanyi interacting with the heavenly dragon seems likely to be hilarious and I expect that to be less likely with the Guan Zhi scene than the Xuan Shi scene.
