  • [X] Meet with the Harvest Prince and the Fisher Prince at the same time.
-[X] The core offer is simple. Peaceful integration into the Imperium with all the benefits that entails, such as economic stimulus packages.
--[X] In particular, promise them to invest in the Bay of Lorath area, increasing local economic activity and thus strengthening the city itself as the focal point of this trade.
--[X] Point out that if they join, you will be the one (or your council at least) to arbitrate conflicts between Braavos and Lorath. You are not promising preferential treatment or anything, but they can expect disagreements to be arbitrated and resolved in a speedy and final fashion, entirely without the need for violence.
--[X] Otherwise they obviously get the agrarian care package of rituals and Leshies to prop up their economy. You can also negotiate a deal with local Triton tribes on their behalf for maritime endeavors.
-[X] The political system will be reformed in the following way:
--[X] The Three Princes will act as the Governor of Lorath, making decisions by simple majority. You will help them picking a good successor for the third spot if they want, or stay out of it, depending on their wishes.
--[X] The Humble Assembly will be dissolved.
---[X] Hereditary land-owners will be awarded the corresponding feudal titles as vassals of Lorath. That means they gain more autonomy in their own holdings while loosing influence on Lorath at large.
---[X] The guilds are getting shafted, but they will remain an important power-block in the new Imperial council that replaces the assembly. Sell it to the lower rungs of the guilds as a way for them to bypass the guildmasters on their path to power and watch them flock to the idea.
---[X] The appointed members get completely shafted. If they are worth caring about, they will have a shot at a council position. If not, then why bother pandering to them?

Part MMMCCCLXXV: With Eyes Wide Open
With Eyes Wide Open

Seventeenth Day of the Twelfth Month 293 AC

The Harvest Prince proves to be a rather forgettable man with pale grey eyes and an unfortunate stutter that likely makes others underestimate him all the more, so you are not surprised to see some sharp cunning gleaming in his eyes. The same cunning his backers on the Humble Assembly had missed when they had proposed him for the largely formal role. Former backers perhaps you should say, they had all died by now either in the coup or under mysterious circumstances in the months since. As you tether your greetings you make a mental note to warn the Lawmen not to investigate those happenings, as they occasionally did in Myr and Tyrosh. Technically Imperial Law is not retroactive, but an investigator who values his or her craft could often become rather zealous in ensuring his future superiors and you planned for the Princes to take up the tasks of governorship.

"My Lord, an honor to finally speak to you," the Fisher Prince interjects before his compatriot could slip a word past the formal greetings. "There is much to discuss given the shifting politics on the Narrow Sea, and I have heard of wondrous trade, seen it's fruits in fact..." he was by far the more graceful of the two, his smile, reserved but welcoming, so perfect one might think he was given the role for it alone. Which given what the Princes had supposed to be might actually be the case.

You go on to explain some of the more unusual changes to your realm, though not everything of course. Neither of the pair before you is a fool and they have learned a great deal from their agents in the south no doubt, but some things were hard to believe, like the riches of other worlds or harvest rituals that would make the land yield threefold.

Three hours into the meeting the Harvest Prince formally makes the request to swear fealty, the other prince not long behind. They seem shocked at the prospect of dissolving the Assembly when you mention the prospect, tactfully not calling it a dysfunctional catastrophe of an institution, as Dany had silently done in infernal to get the point across all the better. Once you assure then that their power and influence would not wane with the transition so long as they proved competent tentative approval begins to be reached, though the prospect of fair arbitration against Braavosi maritime interests is viewed with some skepticism. It is probably the offer to select the new Prince of the Streets as they please, though you are willing to help if they deem it necessary, that finally tips the scales from reluctant acquiescence to truly planning the demolition of the assembly and the integration of Lorath.

It would take weeks and require much gold to grease the wheels of change, resources you had not needed to make use of in either Myr, Volantis or Braavos, but you are confident that by the month's end you would be able to count Lorath fully your own. "May all our meetings be this fruitful, Honorable Ones," you say, making use of the Lorathi title, just as you do in every city. Things would work out as they had always done, only better, your smile says.

Dany barely manages to hold back a giggle until you are once more alone, and Tyene's smile shows she is not far behind. "Easiest conquest we've ever had," she says.

"The honor probably goes to Menel," you point out, looking over the darkened streets of the city. The day had been overcast as was the norm this far north, but now the last fading traces of sunlight were fading from the sky.

What do you do next?

[] Look for the beast tamer's menagerie, perhaps there might be something of note there

[] Seek out the Shadow Mage of which you have heard rumors

[] Observe the Labyrinth Temple dedicated to the Blind God, oldest of all the city's structures

[] Write in

OOC: Good rolls all around so no stumbling blocks in making the offer to the princes.

Okay so utterly useless then...send it to the trees. Anything else? Has DP put up the full loot list?

Edit: Prisoners count as loot.
Not really useless. Just vulnerable as fuck to the Bloodstone Emperor.

As for prisoners, we have a Shadow Dragon corpse and a Nightmare Dragon sacrifice. We're using both in the creation of Myrkdreki, IIRC. The Orphne Lord has the option of taking a young one of that species as a companion if both agree.

The Bloodstone Emperor is absolutely terrifying. Can we use Runecraft to deal with that weakness maybe?

Ahh yes. That. Well, that is great. Can the Myrkdreki go into the Dreamlands?

A vote was that our people look into him.
He's too insignificant a note to bother IC, iirc.

Tamer's menagerie is of less interest than he is, and he isn't interesting enough to bother divining to begin with.

[] Observe the Labyrinth Temple dedicated to the Blind God, oldest of all the city's structures
That's probably something we can do.
The Blind God as described in canon is a mess, but I suppose if anyone can turn him on a less frustrating path that'd be Viserys...

But still, no plothook big enough ever was given for us to see it as important IC.

Lorath is done with for the month as far as I'm concerned.

[X] Have the talk with Stannis - the Storm God can do much for the realm, and him personally. So far he seemed a goal-minded man, so we believe he'll see the merit in converting to the just and practical God of First Men.
-[X] In case of success, also retrieve the Heart Tree from the Storm's End - putting an exact fleshforged copy, with permanenced (Diamond dust) Fire Resistance, on it.

so check the Ashaií wizard, check the magical zoo in case we need to take care of something, something goes wrong and to grab something of the beastmaster who went missing to cast discern location on so we can scratch that of the list if he's dead or see where he is if he isn't a few basic divinations as to his fate if he is dead might be in order just in case, check the labarynth of the god whose magic item has been really usefull in the past also magic priest so scolarum reasons and then we can move on to a different

-[X] Besides general curiosity of their nature and character, you wouldn't let someone run an entire branch of the Scholarum, which benefits from considerable support from the Crown, without ever having met them.
-[X] If they're of sufficient power and unique in ability you might even want to work together more closely.

No, really.

We voted on our minions dealing with him for us.
Why spend screentime on something that's been mentioned but once?

I was under an assumption we try to lessen the narrative-spillover such minor stuff.

can we also just have someone check the managerie to see what things are actually there? i'd like to know what beast reside in our future city just in case and finding the owner would be a single spell later after that

I'm neither interested in the whole Storm God tangent, nor with interacting with that shadow mage who can be vetted by Taena just fine.

so what do you suggest in that case? honestly all of this we can have our minions do and probebly should have them do next month

the whole Storm God tangent
To be fair, we promised Stormy to have Stannis come around.
I just want to finally knock that out of the park and stop touching him unless directly relevant (like sacrificing stuff for Stormy).

This shadow-mage is just... irrelevant?

I genuinely have no idea, since I'm iffy on what else is on the docket at all.

Here is the thing. The whole interaction with the Storm God was pointless Pokemon hunting form the get go. There are zero IC motivations for Viserys do to this, just the threads obnoxious tendency to chase every tiny thing for no particular reason at all.

It adds nothing to the overall narrative, and frankly, I see absolutely no reason why Stannis should indulge Viserys here in the first place.

Just these MAs to knock off the list since we voted on them.
Two times now.
[X] Meraxes being worshipped as actively as she is is a fine thing - except we know of the danger that grows alongside her.
-[X] Talk to Zherys and Meraxes, try to ensure she doesn't "return to life" for a while longer so that we won't have to worry about the 15th getting proactive.

[X] Visit the Dornish tourney in a guise - the lords shall be properly briefed on many a thing.

[X] Meet Galeneia, the daughter of Merling King.
-[X] If she succeeded in getting the lore on forging the water-spirits, barter for it.
I've little interest in them myself at this point.
But voted the thread had, so finishing with them seems the logical thing to do.

Them aside, there was no more plans. I suppose Viserys will rule for the rest of the month, and we'll see a bunch of interlude-chapters.

most of the things currently pending are things being build, research actions, the kobald project is due to happen pretty soon, talking to reacher lords and some adventures from our companions

we did have the other touched safari planned to help djinn research for this month if we had the time

needs more free people than just "Viserys +- Dany" to do.
Is also largely uninteresting to most active posters at this point, as it's seen as just a random fetch-quest outta nowhere for doubtful sort of shiny.

There was admittedly little IC reason to start in the first place, but we made a deal, and we tend to follow through with the deals we make. We may as well just try to finish this as best as we can while trying to keep the narrative tighter in the future.

[X] egoo

@DragonParadox, should I just try to track down the sacrifices OOC instead? We're kind of past the point where we can reasonably cover it IC without it being awkward and disjointed.

The same goes for the Storm God thing. It's utterly random and pointless.

Edit: @Duesal, the Strom God merely made a request. Viserys did not promise him anything. He can just as well walk away and leave him be.

I really do get why you feel this way about the subject, it was a pointless plothook to chase in retrospect, but honestly it's one I'd like to see through since we've already kind of bitten. Even if you're right in that it was a request rather than a binding deal it feels weird to have had that talk with the Father Storm and just never follow through.

Sunken Cost Fallacy

By going forward with this, he will resume to suck up time and space in the future. Or he will be dropped out later, resulting in the same situation as if we drop him now, just with even more prior interactions.

I just want to get rid of this now, not have this exact same argument the next time.
