Sort of, but part of it is 'because we're the best, we'll come out on top, and because we're the best, us being in charge is best for the Under-Empire'.

Interesting. One of the canon disagreements between the Cult of Ulric and the Cult of Sigmar was that the latter forced the former into introducing clerical celibacy. Doctrinally, the Cult of Ulric believes priests should marry (which is consistent with their views on self-sufficiency), but they were forced to accept not doing so.

Priests being celibate in the Old World is a peculiar hang-up of the Cult of Sigmar because Sigmar never married. The other Cults disagree, so have married clergy, save for that of Ulric.

What's the situation with Queekish languages? Something like Chinese with an official script and a multitude of closely related languages (with a lot of those close enough to be considered dialect families)?

Is there enough written material and pronunciation correspondence to work out some other vocabulary? I suppose that it's not something alphabetic since that would make it much easier) but even pictogram based languages like Chinese has some phono-semantic compounds that help.

Is there something that could be done with rhyming words? General patterns of semantic/pronunciation shifts?

In other words, are there ways to apply linguistics to get more of our knowledge of Queekish?

I could be mistaken about it, but afaik, we have somewhat successfully reconstructed vulgar Latin despite it being a spoken language only with most sources being classical Latin and related languages.

This is quite terrifying for me. Months after they were all driven out dhar from their weapons is still hanging around in equivalent levels to recent battle magic use. How much was the ambient dhar exposure during the conflict? Pretty scary.

I think its specifically this order, in that they are sworn to Ulric's cause alone, as basically the Ulrican cult Greatsword equivalents.

I'm pretty sure they aren't actually bound to celibacy, just from having any competing oaths. So lovers and children yes, wives no.

Enough to spontaneously reanimate their dead as Undead.

Which is damn fucking terrifying.
Mathilde would be capable of serving as a light source due to her Belt burning all that Dhar frightening.

Being a Priest is inherently social, which means that those that gravitate towards the Priesthood have certain opinions about how far one should take Ulrican self-sufficiency. The more martial often take it even further. It's not quite celibacy, since it's not about sex itself.

Written Queekish is centralized, because only the most important Skaven need to be literate and they either spend time at Skavenblight or do most of their written communicating with those that do, and the Grey Seers enforce a single written dialect as a means of social control. Spoken Queekish is decentralized, because every Skaven is using it and most of those that do don't ever leave where they were born except to go to war, so there'd be Clan dialects and there'd be stronghold-specific subdialects. There'd be no way of learning about spoken dialects from written communications.

'High' Queekish, which many of those in Skavenblight would consider the only true Queekish, is the Skavenblight dialect. 'Low' Queekish is a sort of pidgin language built out of the lowest common linguistic denominators of Queekish.

So basically, HIgh Queekih is Latin, Moulder Queekish is Chinese, Low Queekish is Sanskrit and written Queekish is Egyptian hieroglyphs meaning its own thing with no pronounced equivalent?

Theoretically it's one common language, but the dialects have diverged so far that mutual intelligibility is often lost.
