[X] Blurted out a request to spar instead, that helped cultivators understand each other, right?! [Lesser information and improved relationship with Bao Qian, Ling Qi spared a bad time]

I'm pretty sure that is not the case. The spar is the safe option that literally cannot fail. If the date fails, there's an array of ways it can fail. Even if he doesn't hold it against us, we may hold it against him, depending on the nature of the failure.
Well I'm pretty sure he's not gonna hold it against us. He's been quite patient with LQ so far. Also you're forgetting the wording of both options Yrs gave us. Both say it'll improve the relationship with Bao Qian.

Ling Qi opened her mouth to respond and…

[] Carefully accepted. She had to begin dialing down her discomfort somewhere. [Potentially, Information and improved relationship with Bao Qian, Ling Qi uncomfortable, potentially negative outcome.]

A pity there's no option for accepting after the contract is signed. Having CRX double-check the contract for any 'mistakes' would ... should make Ling Qi less uncomfortable. At least in regards to his honesty.

As it stands i'm going with
[x] Blurted out a request to spar instead, that helped cultivators understand each other, right?! [Lesser information and improved relationship with Bao Qian, Ling Qi spared a bad time]
because Ling Qi has had enough character growth (read: shit happened) in the recent past and we should give it a bit of time for everything, including her domain, to settle before poking at her again.

you seem to forget the "potentially" before "Improved relationship with Bao Qian"...

Well we are known to be very lucky, who knows it might be the best date ever... kekeke just joshing ya, still I doubt it'd be something as terrible as people make it out to be if we fail.

I think the date is interesting from a quest authorship perspective. If we choose the date rout it's not just LQ easing into intersocial stressful situations, it's an opportunity for YRS to play around with social situations. YRS has written a lot of fights, and plenty of conversations, but this one is different. It's a friendly event with stakes that isn't quite Hard Politik like the Luo hunts but also isn't Slice of Life safe or Hard Drama white-knucklin it. Honestly, as we get comfortable I'd love to see that cast of characters from time to time. YRS-verse is wide and cool, seeing more is cool <3

I have a feeling that people that are good at interacting with spirits are going to get along with us much easier. We have our own specific style of communicating and living and unless others understand our way of viewing the world they really struggle to interact with us. I have a feeling stone spirits are likely hard, stubborn, blunt. Matching us up with someone that interacts with spirits consistently and professionally was a total relief. We could really use training wheels to get back on our feet social-ability wise

Thinking about it, I wonder if reading those books back in the outer sect that Xuan Shi liked would have quelled some of Ling Qi's aversion to romance and romance adjacent situations. Alas, paths not taken!

Anyway, it's interesting to see people's very different motivations in this vote. You have people from similar camps voting for both options to pursue the same goals from different angles. It's clear that things are very much in the air.

For that reason, I trust @yrsillar isn't taking the result of this vote, or last, as a mandate for pro- or anti-Bao Qian action. There are so many confounding factors, the results aren't even reliable as informal opinion polls, honestly.

He's been quite fair and wants to be in good graces with us we just need to extend the same to him, plus Ling Qi can grow as a person with this option.
He's been nice to us so we should go on a date?
That's terrible reasoning, very transactional, and almost perfect example of what Ling Qi has issues with.
Ling Qi obviously does not want to go, will almost certainly feel miserable, but feels forced to do so. And when Bao Qian notices Ling Qi is feeling miserable, he will also probably feel miserable (and if he does not, it will be a trike against him for me).
Why not go for a spar where we can actually both enjoy ourselves and get to know each other instead?
