Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

[X] Bone of the Father, part 2 – Maybe it's just because it's one you grew up hearing about, but the idea of an Empire off-shoot running around Philly fills you with dread. Plus the fact that the real Empire was turned into Ziz-bombs. Check their territory for any known Empire capes calling the shots.
[X] Burn the Sinners, part 2 – You have the information about the Fallen you wanted, specifically about the Simurgh family. Track them down. Burn them out. Leave no survivors.

[X] Participate in Final Frontier as a social activity instead of a main activity.
[X] Explore another world. If you do not select a world where Taylor has been or already knows about, one will be selected randomly. You may bring 1-3 other characters with you.
-[X] Weekend trip to Aleph's Japan with Missy, Kayleigh and Laura. As newly-forged anime characters they need to see their true homeland, and honestly all four of you need a vacation from your vacation.

Gorn darn it.

There, changed it again so my vote joins the main Japan one.
Maybe I'm projecting.

Maybe I am too. I know perfectly well what's to have two close family members, first my father and a few years later my maternal grandmother, that are not right in the head and dying. It was specially hard with my father, my grandmother at least got to live a long life before she started to confuse me with her dead son and acting like I was him. The worse is that in both cases they didn't act crazy all the time, some days they sounded perfectly sane.

And that's why I think Taylor should explore all her options, like magic and Cranial from Toybox.

Edit: We also know that the magic we have access to might be able to do stuff our magic alien friends can't. So that's why the Healer template might be an option to help Danny, probably after we invest a lot on it.

Edit2:

We have no Earth Aleph money. Sure, we could steal some...

Earth Aleph Japan sounds boring, and not in the good way.

Technically we could also use a magic scan to find valuable metals that are owner less and trade those, but that would probably take a separate vote. Being a hacker on an Earth we don't live in, that doesn't have Tinkers or Thinkers shouldn't get us in that much trouble.

Alternatively we find a legal way to make money there.

Or just lift it from some either criminals or criminal corporations.

Or just hack a bank account out of the ether and make money out of thin air like banks do.

I think we might just either steal from criminals or just steal from an ATM.

We have the advantage one of our girls is a former criminal and Gunslinger Girl won't care. Had we decided to take a hero, we wouldn't be able to steal.

Or the alternative, Samantha teleports to Tampa to pick up the bounties while Taylor is doing literally ANYTHING ELSE. Because this would be so boring to read that it doesn't even deserve two paragraphs. It's just lots of signing documents and picking up a suitcase. MAYBE it could earn two lines of dialogue.

I'd been hoping you would let us do this, as I agree that it would be a far from engrossing scene.

Didn't we already ask the Enforcers for help with Danny and they said they can't do much?

Nope. If you've been reading about bringing the TSAB to check him over(or bringing him to the ship), that's mostly been me trying to get that storyline finished off with something that seemed so out of character not to do.

I will once again champion the vote for giving Standstill the Infinite Enhancement template. Not only does this rebrand her, give her protection from Masters, and give us maximum time before the next Endbringer to train her up, but by doing it now, we get the recharge time started for any possible future template mages.

It gets us her Template two weeks earlier. It costs us the final Template until we're two weeks shy of the next scheduled EB attack, making that character a liability in the fight. Once we have Thirteenth Hour and Jujak to fill out our templates, we'll be getting a spell for each of them after every fight, no needing to worry about building up xp. If we can push to include Jujak every time his presence is reasonable, that gets his LCM chances high enough to give him a serum in four weeks, when his Template would be available.

Maybe we should interact with Jujak more than literally once before people start pushing him as a sure-thing shoe in to add to the Dramatis Personae ? >_> Especially if he's taking a template that would put him in fairly active roles on the team where he couldn't stay on the sidelines like Tim mostly does, so its even more important he be a good match to them.

And thats assuming we even feel we need to add another character just to grab the last template, really. And can't find someone we've already met and gotten along with.

Shame Solaire probably isn't a lovely individual if she was involved in making Cailleach think herself weak.... would've been an easy transition for her powers-wise, if she took the offer. Dunno her current ratings ...... though on second thought Laura was really intent on rescuing her from the Beasts in the after-MS13 bit.

Guessing we'd need a social with Laura to probe any on that, or at least wait to see how hard she wants to burn bridges in her Interlude?

I can't help but feel people are latching onto him with a 'Look, it's shiny!' mindset. He's new, and interesting, so we have to have him!

...

That or now that we've finally started recruiting, people want to recruit everything that moves and seems even vaguely amenable.

We need to socialize with him to improve his odds of a good LCM. We also have WoG that Jujak was meant to be a viable option for giving a vial back when we had one. So, we'll need to see more from him long before we decide if he's worth the risk and expenditure of a LCM and Template. Bringing one former Privateer with us to any big fights is a different beast from trying to salvage the whole group when it was self destructing.

She doesn't have to be really close to somebody to be so invested in somebody on her team. So long as Solaire isn't an ass, and has been a member of Winter Hill for long enough, her emotional attachment is likely going to fall somewhere in the "cousin" range or better.

  • Frost Edge – Laura coats her blade in ice mana to increase the damage it deals.
    • Avalanche – Powerful melee to mid-range spell. She unleashes a wave of icy magic to break everything in front of her and fling it away, and a few moments later it all freezes into place. Somehow still nonlethal.
  • Blitz Action – Move at high speeds in a straight line. She can change direction only once.
    • Aerial Combat – Ability to fly. Missy is fully maneuverable when flying normally but needs to slow down to attack.
The Missy needs to be Laura there.

[X] Daddy's Little Girl – It's been a while since you last checked on your dad. It hurts to see him and know that he doesn't and probably never will recognize you, but you should probably stomach the hurt and go to his nursing home.
[X] Burn the Sinners, part 2 – You have the information about the Fallen you wanted, specifically about the Simurgh family. Track them down. Burn them out. Leave no survivors

[X] Make yourself available to help Operation Pentagram.

On DLG, could Taylor get an update on how Danny's doing (e.g. meet with the doctors, etc.) first, and then decide whether to see him in person or not? That way, she could minimize the drama/not irritate her dad more than necessary, and there would still be an avenue for any clues/hints the DM wants to provide via his caregivers.

It's recent, and also contains a spelling error which explains why my search for 'vials' flopped. 'Jujak' worked, at least.
Fair enough, I missed that then. A complication I see, though, with the plan to give him the Extinction Knight template is his motivation/mindset. He wants to protect civilians through deception and misdirection of thug perception, not really compatible imo with a powerset meant to wade in and brutalize opponents.

I don't remember this. Source?

I believe it was also stated a couple of different ways after we decided to pour the vials down the drain out of spite give them to Alexandria because we didn't have a party member to use it on, and because a lot of people wanted to keep Kayleigh from having a bigger role in the quest by refusing to let her use a vial. A refusal to even consider the options we're given because we haven't already invested time in them is a very frustrating and vicious circle.

He is used to using power armor to fight gangs. When the Privateers went nuts, Tim took all of his tech back from them, thus why he needed to ask for the body armor he's currently using. He isn't against fighting capes so much as he knows that, as he is, he is not capable of taking on most capes. He's focused on stopping people attacking innocents, which is exactly what the Extinction Knight is about. While brutalizing is a possibility, and a necessity for the strongest opponents, the toughness of EK means he can get in close and stop people directly because he doesn't have to worry about getting hurt. Just being able to mostly ignore bullets is already paying dividends for him in protecting people.

Deception and misdirection are his method of choice because it's the best option he has, not because he is unwilling to do more.

Perhaps we should at least social Paul more to see if he might be a good fit for the team? Who knows, we might wind up learning more about him and deciding that he'd be fine on his own or as a member of the team.

That doesn't really sound convincing to me, unfortunately. Don't be so fixated on throwing a template to the first person you see.

Again, socializing serves the double purpose of increasing his odds of getting a beneficial result from a LCM and lets us see what kind of person he is. SW has already said that he is intended as a recruitable character for joining the party. If he turns out not to be a good fit, I might very well vote against him in the future. We just keep running into "we don't know them well enough to invest votes into getting to know him" bull*stink* over and over with every bleeping character we spend any time with, at all.

Cailleach? She wasn't considered worth interacting with her voluntarily until after she quit Winter Hill.
Kayleigh? Admittedly some of it was her being annoying, but again, the furor against spending time with her was that we hadn't spent time with her.
Paul? Purity? Tim? The other Privateers who weren't in the "murder the gangs regardless of the consequences" faction? Over and over and over, I see debates in the forum that boil down to not wanting to waste activity votes on people who weren't already powerful enough to join us in combat roles.

Just, please don't dismiss him as an option before getting to know him. If we do get to know him, then we can decide whether to give him a Template, various boost serums, better power armor, make him wear tights and run down the streets screaming at the top of his lungs to distract people or just because it'd be funny.

I'm not fixated on giving a Template to him so much as I'm mourning how many spells we're sacrificing by jumping on the first Template on Standstill when there's a really good chance that we've already been given a good candidate for the other one. It's just plain wasteful, IMO.

I think you are plain *wrong* about this one. We've interacted quite a bit with Laura prior to her likely recent decision to jump ship from Winter Hill.

There was a lot of debate and a lot of vociferous attacks on her, quite similar to what I'm seeing about Paul here. Every vote for her had this same argument against it except not quite as much when the choice was who to spend time with at your birthday party, and who to fight alongside against the Maras. I'm fighting the sentiment in hopes of winning the war, because if nothing else, only having three of the four master classes built only because we refused to consider a character given to us by the QM rubs my OCD raw. Give the man a chance by bringing him along to keep an eye on him. If he doesn't measure up, then so be it.

I was going to say he probably wouldn't fit in with any of our current quests, but while we're dealing with mooks we can probably invite him to punch some nazis in the face.

Everyone loves punching nazis.

Bone of the Father seems the perfect opportunity to bring him along, as he is from BB, too, and there's some suggestions that it might actually be Cricket and Theo(with possible other E88 who avoided the Simurgh quarantine). This hits all the buttons for him, and lets us see how he handles a second chance with us.

Tallying it up:

This focus on trying to munchkin the system for Linker Core rolls is completely backwards from how it was intended >_> And I'd be a bit surprised if it didn't set the QM off.

The point was to make it so characters we liked enough to keep going back and interacting with, like Missy, had a better chance of staying characters we liked by tying into the quest themes and/or getting a powerup to join us outside civilian interactions.

Not to cheese and draw out and nitpick every "lets have fun and not worry so much about strategy" social vote into a way to squeeze out more power from random NPCs.

The problem I addressed towards you wasn't that we need to interact with Jujak before we bother voting to interact with Jujak. Its that you seem to have /already/ decided he is a set and sure thing for Extinction Knight and we should include him in every little activity we do, every not-Fallen combat, just to train him up as such.

You want an activity where we'll interact with him? We met him in Bone of the Father and heeey guess what he lives and operates in the claimed territory of the gang we are likely to go after in Bone of the Father, so maaaaybe we're already set to be doing that?

Usually Silently Watches tells us outright when a quest-line is suitable for bringing people along, or else its a fairly known and discrete activity (say, attending an announced speech by the PRT). Not a blind arc where we can't be sure what Taylor is going to find merely because the quest voted for the universe to move that way, like how they said not to be shoe horning plans into Daddys Little Girl until we saw what that was about.

the furor against spending time with her was that we hadn't spent time with her.

I don't remember the furor against Kayleigh from some faction of voters ever being about not having spent time with her yet (she shows up a fair bit in snippets of school life that happen in bits of other chapters) , the reason was that people had decided to throw her in a flaming dumpster with Tattletale after she let Laura/Cailleach know our identity for reasons of shipping, nevermind mitigating factors or proof she was otherwise trustworthy. (Obviously that wasn't my position)
