[X] Kragg, who's begun to be seen around the Karak once more, indicating he might be finishing his study of the rune-axe you and Johann found.
[X] Yes, have one social interaction be initiated by someone other than Mathilde.
[X] King Belegar, as he arranges for Clan Ironspike to rejoin their ancestral home from Karak Hirn.
[X] Prince Kazrik, as he builds on his relationship with Nuln.
[X] Prince Gotri, who is enhancing the underground defences of the Karak.

That's the sort of combo that the colleges dream of getting from their graduates. Its also the 2nd Shattering paper to come out of the K8P expedition. That could be a lure for a specific type of glory-hound wizard to come visit.
I wonder if we're going to be getting the sort of snippy rebuttals that Esbern and Seija have been fending off?

@BoneyM
Understanding that a queekish translation guide will be classified as all hell, will it constitute Shattering or Revolutionary? My understanding is that it would be the latter, since there isn't an existing paradigm to be shattered.

Ok so while an arcane mark that isn't the Mark of Ulgu or shrouded isn't what I was hoping for, but I think there is a benefit that can be obtained. So since our arcane mark draws fog/smoke/mist towards us is it possible to make a spell that either creates fog/smoke/mist constructs or controls fog/smoke/mist? I remember one person mentioning a spell quite a few pages back that BoneyM approved here:

The spell in question

deals with manipulating a copy of us out of the mist. Seeing as this is a possible spell and innately ties into her Warrior of Fog trait (seeing as its directly using fog to manipulate people) I was thinking this would be a pretty neat avenue to research into. If controlling fog/mist/smoke or creating constructs out of it is feasible I imagine Mathilde would just manipulate the smoke/fog/mist following her into various shapes. Maybe a shadowy cat trailing behind her :V
I'm unfamiliar withe the details on the benefits of arcane marks. Why is mark of uglu or shrouded better than this mist mark?
Also, shadowclones made out of the fog that is now drawn to us is a hilarious idea, especially if when we develop that teleporting sword technique for our 25 favor murderstick, we incorporste the ability for our SHADOWCLONES to summon it to them, and attack spontaneously from another angle. THEY dispel on hit, but the sword doesn't, and we can summon it back to ourselves. Mein GOTT we're going to be a nightmare if we master that.

We know that there is a body of literature on Greenskin magic, we consulted it the first time we tried to write about it. Therefore, there are probably authors that consider themselves experts on it who will take our paper apart with a fine comb. Will be interesting to see whether anyone thinks he has found a hole in our theory.

I'm hoping for more Journeymanlings and maybe even another Magister dropping in to see if there's any more easy favor to be scooped up. If you're the sort of wizard willing to go near a warzone in the first place, it seems like it should be fairly promising - stand near the thousand-odd dwarfs, look helpful, scoop up the magical bits that the dwarfs don't want to touch after they smash the latest gribbly hive, write paper.

Well I'm interpreting the Mark of Ulgu as equivalent to Rune of Ulgu in arcane mark form which gives us +1 magic. Shrouded if I'm going from the table of Arcane Marks makes it easier for us to hide in the dark which would help in our sneaking skills.

So next turn we should suggest Queekish or AV.

A hypothetical Queekish turn would look like

Max: Continue on anatomy book
Johann: Gem
Duckling: Hubert Mors raid.

AP1: Raid for more materials (Queekish writings)
AP2: Queekish
AP3: Teach Wolf lingua Praestantia.
AP4: Queekish
Coin: Deceiver.

Serenity: Queekish Military Lexicon.

AV would be

Max: Continue on anatomy book
Johann: Gem
Duckling: Panoramia AV Living things effect.

AP1: AV
AP2: AV
AP3: Qrech
AP4: Power stone.
Coin: Gambler

Serenity: Prelimary AV paper.

Let's try and talk with some people we haven't talked with before and/or try talking to some we haven't seen in a long time.

[X] Prince Gotri, who is enhancing the underground defences of the Karak.

[X] Prince Kazrik, as he builds on his relationship with Nuln.

[X] Titus Muggins, who's returned to farming with every avenue of attack defended.

[X] Elder Hluodwica, as the Halflings prepare for their first proper harvest festival in this new home.

[X] Francesco Caravello, proud leader of the Undumgi and possible future Thane.

[X] Sir Ruprecht Wulfhart, as the new home of the Winter Wolves takes shape.

[X] Anton, to see how his firearm factory is going.

[X] Wilhelmina, to see how she's going when she's not a terrifying financial juggernaut.

[X] Julia, See what she has gotten up to as Stirland's most experienced spy master.

[X] No, the social actions should remain as they currently are.

Got to vote "NO". A mystery box once would be fine. Giving up a choice every single time forever is too painful.

Max: Continue on anatomy book
Johann: Gem
Duckling: Ratling gun

AP1: Raid for more materials (Queekish writings)
AP2: Queekish
AP3: Teach Wolf lingua Praestantia.
AP4: Power stone class or Queekish

In a Queekish focus turn I'd probably put the Journyman action on escorting Hubert on a raid.

A 20+ base intrigue while being still young and malleable (and open for getting traits in new areas) , for starters?

I think Julia was around 16, with all traits - while we had decent rappiot, she was just a moderately competent employee, nothing more. She was good - for Stirland, that is.

Gretel is just good, period, and young enough to re-specify herself.

Plus, she is an Amethist. There are no better counter-vampire specialists.
Never got back to this, but we last saw Julia properly on turn 15. It's currently Turn 24. It's nearly been 5 years where Julia has been serving as the assistant spy-master to a Witch Hunter and running his spy network in Stirland. She has undoubtedly improved since and almost certainly has traits that specifically help here. Further she brings with herself her own contacts made from successfully running a spy network from a province and gives us a huge leg up. We gain a lot from Julia.

Gretel has potential yes, but she has a lot of disadvantages. To begin with, she's a wizard. Wizards are loyal to their college and wizards spook the normal people in the empire. She also needs to re-specify herself. This requires her to want to and it requires us to invest in her.. And you mentioned her being a counter vampire specialist? Julia has been running a spy network in Stirland during the greatest push into Sylvania in recent history. I think she'd know better on an organisational scale.

The only think Gretel brings to the table are her stats. Julia is better in every other metric potentially including stats.

Why is mark of uglu or shrouded better than this mist mark

Mark of Uglu gives us +1 Magic and is one of the few ways we know for increasing our Magic score. With it and a Staff we would have Magic 10 which is the 'conventional' cap for Humans. That we're able to gain traits that would push our Magic score even further makes Matty, potentially, one of the most powerful Wizards of her generation on equal terms with Named Canon Character Badasses through her magical prowess alone.

Shrouded is basically the same as Mantle of Mist, except it draws in Shadows instead of Vapors. It's better because some spells requires contact with Shadows to be activated and Vapors drawn towards us can include chemical weaponry.

Not gonna lie: I'm voting for the mystery box specifically because I'm hoping it manifests as "characters the QM knows are neat but that the quest hasn't gotten around to poking at yet come knocking at our door." Granted, this has the problem that usually fifth-place is where a neglected character squeezes into the social turn anyway, but I can't have everything.

@JuliaGate:

Yall remember that she ended up as the subordinate of One-Armed-Witch-Hunter-Dude and didn't become the Spy Mistress of Stirland, right?

@BoneyM : can we ask Wilhelmina about her family life, or is that covered under the current option? I mean, she does hold 20% of the EIC, and it's becoming a big thing. How does she deal with the responsibility of that? Of being maybe in the Top 10 people in the Empire upon which the relationship between the dwarves and the humans depends?

So if the Undumgi were Dwarfy by battle magic, do you think that this could mean they could have a lower birth rate of magical kids?

Social actions involving her might shed some light, but it'd be pretty rude to start probing on that very sore subject.

Thus concludes the work Mathilde performed these past months, but not every waking moment was filled with work. With whom did she spend her free time, this past year? The five with the most votes will be chosen, not counting those locked in.

[+] The Wizards of Karak Eight Peaks (locked in)
[+} EIC Results (locked in; does not cost an action)
[X] King Belegar, as he arranges for Clan Ironspike to rejoin their ancestral home from Karak Hirn.
[X] Princess Edda, as she oversees the reopening of a long-dormant silver mine north of Death Pass.
[X] Prince Kazrik, as he builds on his relationship with Nuln.

I want to see Edda in her element. How dangerous is such a mine, anyway?
And how is a Dwarf handling having to buy cannons from humans? Are the humans super smug about it?
And of course, more Belegar. I want to see how he's doing when he's getting good work done and not moping over some slayer. Is he constantly depressed, or simply regularly depressed?

[X] Gretel, who's apparently spending her newly-earned wealth to make herself at home.
I want to know what an Amethyst wizard does with an enormous pile of cash.

[X] Francesco Caravello, proud leader of the Undumgi and possible future Thane.
[X] Sir Ruprecht Wulfhart, as the new home of the Winter Wolves takes shape.

These are important local leaders. What are they like? What are they up to?

[X] The Amber College, to see how your donation of Lustrian eggs is going.
I want to know what's in those eggs!

[X] Investigate the aftermath of the Empire's campaigns against the Skaven in Nuln and Ubersreik.
[X] Investigate the aftermath of Bretonnia's campaigns against the Skaven in Mousillon and the Black Chasm.

It's nice to know if we've caused horrible defeats or great victories.

[X] Kragg, who's begun to be seen around the Karak once more, indicating he might be finishing his study of the rune-axe you and Johann found.
I want to see Kragg again! He's the best!

[X] Check in on the Gong Farmers and the Niter Factory.

Forget the fief, I want to know how they're doing. And how are they sending us our money?
I remember them being very proud of being part of the Watch. How are they handling suddenly belonging to an absentee boss?

[ ] Prince Gotri, who is enhancing the underground defences of the Karak.
[ ] Gunnars, to see if you can pierce his terse nature.
[ ] Titus Muggins, who's returned to farming with every avenue of attack defended.

[ ] Elder Hluodwica, as the Halflings prepare for their first proper harvest festival in this new home.
[ ] Oswald Oswaldson, newly-minted Chief Bombardier of the Undumgi.
[ ] Soizic, newly elevated to military leader of the Undumgi.
[ ] Barak Varr, to watch the progress of the canal.
[ ] Karak Hirn, to satisfy your curiousity about Prince Ulthar.
[ ] Roswita, as she campaigns through Hunger Wood.
[ ] Kasmir, to see how he's keeping himself busy in Sylvania.
[ ] Anton, to see how his firearm factory is going.
[ ] Wilhelmina, to see how she's going when she's not a terrifying financial juggernaut.

None of these choices seem especially interesting, new or urgent.

Additionally, would the thread choose to sacrifice one social action each turn to be replaced with someone else initiating an extended interaction with Mathilde? This will reduce the thread's control over her free time, but will grant some agency to other characters.

[X] Yes, have one social interaction be initiated by someone other than Mathilde.

[X] Yes, have one social interaction be initiated by someone other than Mathilde.

[X] Max, during the few breaks in the silence as the two of you worked on Queekish in the Room of Serenity.
Frankly, Max is currently best boy.
[X] Francesco Caravello, proud leader of the Undumgi and possible future Thane.
[X] Oswald Oswaldson, newly-minted Chief Bombardier of the Undumgi.
[X] Soizic, newly elevated to military leader of the Undumgi.
All of these would be fun. Francesco is a bit more important to get to know socially right now.

[X] Kragg, who's begun to be seen around the Karak once more, indicating he might be finishing his study of the rune-axe you and Johann found.
Kragg is a treasure with few people he remotly respects in any way. Just being near him is extra cool. Wonder what he learned from the axe? And hell, Mat might hint/ask what happens if the Runes are exposed in increased Wind power, would they recover faster?

[X] Check in on the Gong Farmers and the Niter Factory.
[X] Check in on your fief in Stirland.
We neglected these last time. Let's visit at least one of them this time.

Also, old friends:
[X] Wilhelmina, to see how she's going when she's not a terrifying financial juggernaut.
[X] Anton, to see how his firearm factory is going his search for love is going.

Also, @BoneyM how about this:
[*] You've written a paper that will change how the Empire fights Waargh magic. Be there in person to read it to Regimand.
Grey's aren't much for sentiment. But substitute-dad should get a chance to dispense headpats. Mat's all grown up and saving the Empire.
EDIT: removed by WOG answer.

I've plans in the general area of this paper for coming turns, so now's not the time to spend social actions on it.
