Yeah, I know we're always action crunched but within the next few turns we definitely should scout Mhonar with Mathilde. This suspiciously empty mountain neatly ticks the Weird Shit plus Infiltration boxes that Mathilde has made the signature of her tenure as the K8P Court Wizard
We can make it our job after we Case Closed the tower.
AND it'd progress towards Cartography

[X] Plan Translation Extraction (Ultimate Tower Edition), 10 Pull Gacha Edition

This has everything I want, and nothing I object to. Yay!

A dragon that sleeps for centuries at a time is, frankly, a better outcome for K8P than the entirety of Zilfin being filled to the brim with Clan Skryre.

Obviously some form of negotiations would be sweet as hell, and equally obviously they'd be tricky as hell. Still, if the elves and the humans can have allied dragons, why not dwarves?

Hey guys. I haven't had time to read anything but the updates for the last week or so. So please excuse any questions that have already been answered.
[ ] DUCK: Hubert wants glory. Take him on a sortie against Clan Mors, with the side-goal of finding written correspondence. (NEW-ish)
[ ] DUCK: Gretel's motivated by wealth. Take her on a raid against Clan Mors, looking for wealth and Queekish. (NEW-ish)
Are we able to take both as a single action on our part? It's the same activity after all.
[ ] Seek to build a stronger rapport with the Skaven, and see about supplying sources of mental stimulation that your company isn't the only thing keeping him sane.
Can we give him another Skaven for company? Maybe a crippled one or something.

Also, since social actions from the social chapter don't give any numeric or concrete information, can we still secretly investigate characters of note?

In general, something I already wanted to say days ago, back when the thread was having a relevant discussion on this subject, is that I find it strange that the social turn can't update the Dramatis Personae info. After all it isn't a mechanical benefit, but instead just information that you deem Mathilde to know. And I don't think most people would vote on who we should visit based just on filling out numbers of characters that are friendly towards us. Especially with the dwarven councillors there isn't even any expectation for internal court politicking. Nor would it be our job to discern anyone's loyalty to King Belegar, except maybe the Undumgi or Ulrikadrin.
So in my opinion keeping stuff that threat readers should already know out of the info post due to it coming from a social turn is not needed in order to safeguard it from ravenous metagaming on our part.

[X] Plan Translation Extraction (For the Snek Juice! Edition), 10 Pull Gacha Edition
-[X] MAX: Study an artefact: Skaven book on the Anatomy of Chaos Dwarves.
-[X] JOHANN: Join him on raids into Clan Mors territory with the aim of finding written correspondence.
-[X] DUCK: Gretel's motivated by wealth. Take her on a raid against Clan Mors, looking for wealth and Queekish.
-[X] EIC: Have the Eight Peaks branch keep a careful eye on the mood and actions of the Undumgi.
-[X] Travel to the Grey College and attend lessons there. (1 College Favour per class; 100gc can be paid instead for non-magical classes)
--[X] Spend 10 Favour to get all remaining spells.
-[X] Red Tower: build a tower that uses Aqshy to create mystical flames (and non-mystical light) to use the mountain at night.
-[X] Investigate the exact circumstances required to induce a transformation.
-[X] Supply a steady stream of Queekish documents for him to translate, and carefully check the results for consistency.
--[X] Convince Qrech that the Empire has already translated Queekish, but his help could provide a faster turnaround and better help you plan an attack on Clan Mors.
-[X] Serenity: Write a paper: Your personal understanding of countering Waaagh Magic.
-[X] Penthouse: Add security measures to your Penthouse to prevent surreptitious entry.
-[X] The Deceiver: Support Skaven Gambit.

There, the same plan but with Snek Juice instead of the Blue Tower.

Even cloudy days have shadows, more in fact (I'm from Ireland, I should know.) so only the absolute worst weather will affect the tower. and as Kragg said, 'I can sleepwalk 10 months,' the Blue tower is situational. the red one is far more useful.

We have built the first WMD, let's start the next one.

Come on thread, show @BoneyM that we won't fall for the low hanging fruit every time.

That his wily ways won't distract us forever

For the SNEK JUICE!!!!

Like, we can either spend 10 favour on switching an action from "almost guaranteed nega-trait avoidance" to "almost guaranteed nega-trait avoidance and the chance to learn a few more spells", that's basically a one AP gain, by adding a gatcha action.

or, we can spend 10 favour to roll the bones on Boney's "Exotic staff material" list, for a chance at a legendary staff that doesn't require us to kill an Emperor dragon, or buy a permanent bound spell item, or send off for the supreme patriarch to come suplex a rival dragon,
Hmm Suplex a dragon...

By the way, is anyone interested in scouting Karag Mhonar using some actual mage-sight to find out what's going on? Seems like it could matter soon?

We do get Dramatis Personae information from the social turn though.

The tower is above the cloudline. If the clouds are between the tower and the ground then that limits the destructive ability of the mountain.

Ok have sometime to look the the vote.......

God damit! Snek juice!!!!!!!!

You all got distracted again!!!!

ONE Action, just one, that's all I ask.

We have had the fucking stuff for have the game and we have researched it once! ONCE.

It gets put off every time.
At this point the murderous time-traveller won't be a frustrated journeyman, but Mathilde herself.
"How dare you put away researching snake juice until I was old and grey! Turns out it's a vital component to a potion of immortality! I COULD HAVE AVOIDED WRINKLES IF IT WASN'T FOR YOU!"

Its very different. Hubert is an ASSAULT, he wants glory, and we'd give it to him by attacking Skaven outposts outright and picking over the loot.

Gretel and Johann are raids. They slip in, look for stuff, take it, slip out, none the wiser.

Sadly, any plan that doesn't have the red and blue towers is a plan I cannot support. Truthfully I'd actually quite like to take both the other towers as well, but action crunch makes that kinda difficult and not really worth the effort of lobbying for.

Would the benefit to K8P be that K8P gave the information, so if one of the assaults is successful, it gets some payoff from them?

No. Dwarves consider a Skaven stronghold falling to be a payoff in itself.

@BoneyM As a defense mechanism, if we decide and manage to accumulate and store Ulgu in large quantities in the tower, would it be possible to use a fraction of the gathered amount to give the tower the illusion of not being where it actually is? Appearing in a different place to everyone looking on it from afar? Make it so that any attempt to actually wreck the tower via long-range artillery requires smashing the entire mountaintop, just to be sure you got it?

Not without spending an additional AP on creating that enchantment.

@BoneyM, Can we ask the Questing Knight to train our ducklings in melee combat as a duckling option? Sure the Scythe girl may get the short end of the deal but it is better than nothing to have a competent sparing partner with a Jade wizard or Matilde to heal in case of injury.

Not usefully. Very little of what she knows is applicable to wielding a scythe or a beam of fire.

Are we able to take both as a single action on our part? It's the same activity after all.

It's really not. Assaulting the peripheries of Skaven territory is completely different to prowling into the most guarded parts of Skaven territory looking for loot, even if both have you grabbing anything written while doing so.

Can we give him another Skaven for company? Maybe a crippled one or something.

Adding an additional and entirely unpredictable element isn't a good idea.

Also, since social actions from the social chapter don't give any numeric or concrete information, can we still secretly investigate characters of note?

Not without spending AP.

What information do you think readers 'should already know' that isn't on the Dramatis Personae page?

"Have you gone senile in your old age?? Don't you remember Heidi said about doing nice things for Shallyans?"

While you're here, @BoneyM? Something I've been wondering for a while is why wizard staffs are, well, staffs. There's presumably some reason for it, but is that enough to prevent staff-equivalents in other forms being made at all, or is it just that they're harder to make or less practical for some reason? Could you, for example, make what's basically a staff in the form of a wand? A ring? A glove? A bit of fancy wood you strap to your forearm? A hat?

You want something you can throw away if it starts exploding or melting or turning into snakes or something, something you hold since most Wizards channel magic through their hands, and the bigger it is the easier it is to make.

All eyes turn to Karag Nar, and the two tower on its peak. "With assistance from Kragg, Gunnars, and the Grey College, it's operational, but I believe there's still more to be done before it could be considered complete."

He nods. "Will it remain as operational as it is now?"

You consider the various upgrades you're considering. "Yes."

"Then by all means."
Baw. I am disappoint.

You want something you can throw away if it starts exploding or melting or turning into snakes or something, and the bigger it is the easier it is to make.
Makes sense. Clearly, we must therefore turn Abel's hat into our staff.
