I'm not particularly concerned about Mathilde becoming a shut in as a Court Wizard simply due to the fact that doing so risks momentum being lost in the reclamation of K8P, and the position is well suited for helping out any journeymanlings looking for opportunities/adventure. Also checking up on them to make certain they're not being careless, and/or their initial arrangement is in need of reworking.

I'd like to sit on this for a bit yet. Currently the SOLE likely human source of the information is us, so if the Grey Order starts acting on it...well its not hard to figure out who did it.
Sit on it, collect more information, and we can make the report in the future with better data points.

Pretty big if for a professional Spy Network to out a full member after their first report. Mechanically, I don't think the only option to do more Grey Order stuff would have such dramatic consequences on a bad roll.

Hey, what do you guys think would happen if a Runesmith quenched a rune is Mathilde's Arcane Snake Oil?

I just worry that as a Court Wizard we'd end up spending all our actions shut up inside our tower unlocking the secrets of the universe, and I want to hang out with dwarves
I think a lot of our research is going to be like what we just did with the spiders this update - going out and poking things with people, talking to people about what the thing we poked did after we poked it and what that could mean, and asking if anyone's seen anything new and interesting we could go and poke.

So I'm not worried that BoneyM is going to write us shut up in the tower not talking to anyone even if we do go research heavy.

Dwarven Runes do specific things when created in specific ways, sorry. If you miss a single hammer beat you can undo months of work. They're not using manling or elven magic which cares about symbolism or circumstance or throwing things at a wall and seeing what sticks, so if a runesmith dips a rune into the snake oil they're almost certainly just going to get a ruined rune.

If they specifically need daemon blood for some reason it might count, though.

[X] Remain in Karak Eight Peaks, either in the employ of Belegar or pursuing your research.

[X] Give them away...
- [X] To the Amber College

[X] Claim the site where Ranald mugged Mork and build a shrine to Ranald there.
[X] All this time away has made you miss your friends, and you'll be practically next door in Altdorf. Visit Anton and Wilhelmina.
[X] King Belegar is allowing you to use the King's Armoury. Recover your extant study materials from Stirland and tuck them away safely in there.

We don't really need a sniper rifle. Revolver is good enough for basic ranged offense, and for something more killy we're better off with shadow knives or battlemagic.
Shadow Knives have like, 18 yards of range or so, IIRC. And hit weakly (Strenght 3 on RP). And many targets will likely have simple magical armor.

It's not manling or Elven magic that cares about symbolism, Magic cares about symbolism. Runemagic is still Magic, all of the rituals are very symbolic. Easy example is Rune of Swiftness need quicksilver.

Your last point is a bit off the mark. When a Runesmith tries to rediscover the process to create a Rune it is literally just a mix between vague "Intuition*" (some special Rune sense) and throwing a bunch of random shit at it. Repeat and Refine the process thousands of times (Dwarves are patient). And boom, rune rediscovered.

Lastly, new Runes are still being reaserched. A Runelord might try using Snake juice in one of the new rituals.

Footnote: Intuition in WHF is a vague sense of the Winds. Obv Dwarves don't have that but it's the closest word to describe it.

50% time pinch.
30% wanting to get an actual in depth view of dwarf politics over "what Belegar bitched to us about after getting snubbed" and "what we chatted about while hunting"
20% wanting some information management. We know this political data is not on a time pinch. Its been ongoing for centuries

While true on the first part we literally never encountered non-dwarf magic armor yet.

Also @Kornet , unfortunately, a Sniper Pistol sort of... Isn't.

A simple rifle with iron sights can plink away at a target at a hundred meters all day long, without too much skill.

Meanwhile, reliable hundred meter pistol shots are right at the edge of feasible for anyone but the most dedicated and talented shooters, and that's taking into account a scoped and highly accurate gun.

The sheer ergonomics play a huge part, and a faster and heavier bullet also helps tremendously.

Damage rolls in the RPG our spell is based on are not all-or-nothing like the WFB tabletop skirmish game.
Characters have a dozen or more wounds, damage is basically 1d10+strength-toughness-armour.
So three (or seven) Shadow Knives is potentially quite the murderblender in the RPG, which is the basis for our spells effect.
Really really high toughness opponents might come away unscathed, sometimes, but chances are they'll take some wounds from high rolls from a fan of knives.

Edit: also the range in the RPG is 48 yards.

Remeber how it used to work: Every turn we'll get an assignment as Belegar chooses an item on his Court Wizard action list. The it'll be our job to pick usually 2-3 actions on our assignment. Unless we choose not to get an official job, we're going to be obligated to do things besides being a research shut-in.

It's also for this reason that I think being Head Ranger is a really good idea. If we want to help explore the peaks and gain more Dwarf Favor anyways, why not just pick the option that'll have that as our official job? No matter what we pick, joining Belegar's court means being assigned jobs besides catching up on research, and when we run out on our current research there's no better source of new future research like the MegaDungeon that is 8 Peaks.

Regardless how Shadow Knives gets translated, the fact is that it's a very short range spell. A sniper rifle is for killing at range.

Learning to use a rifle would likely be done on the same action as we buy it, because we already know how to shoot a revolver, so the entire background information necessary for their operaiton is already ours, and the principles translate nearly 1:1.

Honestly, bastard sword on one hip, revolver and grounding rod on another and rifle in the back seems like a perfectly fine set-up.

@BoneyM would a 25 favor comission actually take years to deliver?

[X] Speak with King Belegar and King Kazador about the relationships and apparent rifts between Dwarfholds.
[X] Scout the rest of the Eight Peaks, to find out what other horrors are waiting out there.
[X] Join Karak Azul as they raid and scout in force the other portions of the Karak.

I honestly don't care too much one way or another about the eggs, but I definitely want to stay in K8P and help out.
