  • [X] Take this opportunity to quietly knight some of the men in Lady Whent's garrison who, if you've heard correctly, stood fast in the face of horrors beyond all reason. Also restore the captain of Lady Whent's garrison's missing eye, lost fighting Harren's Horrors even while his comrades lay dying.

[X] TotallyNotEvil

Yeah, it's very problematic. Being just a trusted advisor that's there halfway out of self interest, the other half for the "ending slavery gig" and is plainly asking for a hefty reward (Highgarden) would be much easier.

Someone with simple and naked motives is very easy to trust for a schemer such as Tyrion or Varys.
Exactly.
On the other hand, working with Varys would be utterly terrifying for me. AFAIK he hates maegi, he is stupidly influential and if worse comes to worse he can arrange deadly assassination attempts halfway across the world.

Even in a "ally with Daenerys" plan, I would consider Illyrio and Varys as unsteady enemies at best. Killing them would be a medium-term objective of mine.

And you also made it weird.
Like my "marry Cersei" suggestion, I was mostly fucking with you there.

However my "ask for the Iron Islands" suggestion was 100% serious. IMO you have the best odds of getting that Kingdom, and although the locals will be an issue you will almost certainly get support from the Throne in case of problems you can't magic/bribe away.
And while the place does suck, you're an item crafter with regular income you can spend on spiffing the place up a bit, and maybe even feeding the local peasantry.

Just gotta pull a "softer" Orys Baratheon move: marry the daughter and take the castle, but also take the name for myself instead of only the banner and words.
Oh, historical precedent. I like it.

I expect to swing the faithful pretty hard with my literal divine spells.
That's hilarious though. You are literally an Evil Apostate from the East who came to conquer this land with Dragons and barbarians, and now you want to be the Messiah?
Amazing.
And assuming you have royal favour and are LP of Highgarden, your influence over the Faith and Old town should be enormous enough to get institutional support for this madness.
Love it !

A man that can say "and may the gods smite whichever of us is in the wrong" and have a pillar of fire fall from the heavens unto his enemy shouldn't have much trouble gaining fame as a Chosen of the Seven.
You'll be wanting the conceal spellcasting skill trick, then. That's a hefty skill investment in sleight of hand, and probably a feat to make it a class skill.
Remember that although this quest makes it very easy to hide that you're spellcasting, RAW it's super obvious. You have to speak clearly and loudly while making large gestures, AFAIK.

Not saying it's impossible, just that you'll have to out a bit of effort if you want to pretend that the Gods are acting directly while it is in fact you casting spells.

Rebellious vassala are much less of an issue when you have abundant op royal favor from a Targ with dragons.
Okay, that is a very valid point and I feel stupid for not seeing it sooner.
Still, you want to bet on your royal favour lasting for as long as you plan on living?

And maybe a dragon of my own, Dany needs two riders still. Just gotta be a silverbrow human.
I strongly suggest getting Evasion somehow before making the attempt ;)
A whole lot of other silver row humans have died horribly, trusting in old inbred-magic to make them BFFs with a Huge fire-breathing monster whose alignement is best summed up as "feline".

This is like "take the Iron Islands", but worse.
Hey, Cersei has fangirls!
How was I to guess that you were one of the 99% of humans who are sane enough not to be r/CerseiWinsTheThrone groupies ?
Seriously though, there are people who genuinely think she'd be great if she wasn't suffering beneath the yoke of a sexist husband.
I personally think that she's both stupid, sociopathic and ambitious - a terrible combo!
Political marriages with people like her are why we invented Modify Memory or Dominate Person ^ ^

So not even a Wish could move you between reality and the Dreamlands? Aren't one of Dany's abilities, the ability to bodily move in and out of the Dreamland? I would think that if it's possible for her to do it, a wish would be able to replicate what she do.

No for the same reason a wish cannot duplicate Malarys' ability to force shape-change. Abilities that are the capstone of an entire PrC (or high up in them) should not be replicatable with just wish.

To be fair I have read fanfics that make Cersei sympathetic, ones that have the Point of Divergence be 'not committing cold blooded murder at the age of 12'

We will have to agree to disagree there, personally I think capstones shouldn't be defined by being something only you can do, not unless they have a heavy cost to use, they should be defined by the fact that you can do them with little to no effort, whereas for others to duplicate them, they need to use a 9th level spell that cost EXP.

Capstones should be defined, by how easy you can accomplish a feat of the highest spellcraft, not by how you can do something no one else can do, you doing something otherwise impossible easily, is a little too special snowflake in my opinion, so either using your capstone, should have a moderately heavy price associated with it, or other people should be able to replicate it at high cost.

Viserys capstone is the ability to transform into a dragon, lots of spellcasters can do that with a sufficiently powerful Polymorph, the thing that's special about Viserys capstone, is that it's undispellable and at will.

Viserys' trasnformation is much more complete than anything shape-change can do, it does not even fail in an anti-magic zone, not something wish can do. That said I agree that what wish can and cannot do depends on individual preferences, the upper limits are left vague for a reason.

It's down to DM purview. No any one D&D setting is completely homogeneous even by RAW's standards. DM arbitrament for DCs is a big thing, and that has no fewer implications for what is possible in the setting and the relative "power level" of it, either.

Polymorph any Object, can do a complete change into a Dragon, the only difference between that and being a Dragon, is that a dispel will turn you back into what you used to be.

My point is more that I don't think Capstones, should be things that only capstones can do, they should be things that the one with the capstone can do at will, but the one without the capstone, need either a custom made 9th level spell or a wish/miracle, to do a more limited version of.

But that's just my opinion on capstones, and you're the DM so it's your opinion that counts, I just want it said, that I think making capstones take more than a wish to duplicate a single use of them, makes them a little too powerful, for how much is invested into them.

He ruled that dragons made in this way can't breed new dragons, not that they wont have the abilities of a dragon, or that's how it went unless I remember wrong at least.

From what I remember we just generally shelved the entire notion IC and OOC because it was causing too much unproductive discussion. I don't really want to dig through old posts to look for the details for the same reason.

They couldn't breed more Dragons because they weren't really Dragons.
However Viserys' PrC does make him "really a Dragon". Therefore a PrC capstone is better than what high-level spells can do.

[X] DP, we need City of Brass and Yi Ti interludes in strategic amounts,

Do we know about any other forges outside of this one and the one in a free city (Norvos?) we haven't conquered yet?

Valyria proper has the rest of the forges. It's probably all melted now.

As for the crown, why not have Mel sacrifice it to sanctify the Red Temple in SD? It's about time we and Burny have a chat again, and get him to pay rent too.

The god-snare would benefit a lot if R'hllor focuses on Tiamat's Fire and Tyranny domains which he already has. Or have him for Law of Timmy's Chaos.
