If you swear, you actually swear. No ifs and buts about it. Mind you, the Warrior might caution her against doing such in the first place... But that's not really our problem, is it?

Excellent chapter DP - shows how a world unused to magic is slowly adapting, trying to reconcile past and future paths.

So if we capture the next apostate we see and toss them to the Orphne we can get an Unravelling out of it? Because while not common, in this day and age I'm sure we can still find a few wandering around.

As for the son, isn't there a spell we could use to straight up commune with his soul and convince him to accept? @Deliste?

Lastly, @DragonParadox, if we sit Garin down in either the Mind Blank room of the Shadow Tower or in Bloodraven's lair, will he tell us exactly what his terms with R'hllor were? We've been in the dark for an unacceptably long time for that, and paranoid about it every step of the way. We literally got an Unravelling for it, and we don't even know how bad the deal he made is.
  1. Yes, though it will take some time
  2. I thought you guys already knew, it was an open favor to be called in the future, it's not like the made it into a complex contract. He did not have the time for that
@DragonParadox is it possible to make runecraft unravelings?

Maybe at the end of Lya's mythic path

@DragonParadox based on the implication that the Warrior would fudge the rules on this in his favor and that if Brienne was refusing to uphold her oaths to us for any reason, it would likely be because it was demanded of her by her deity to do so, can we assume this isn't actually correct?

Come on Goldfish, it can't be that simple.

Viserys is not sure, his knowledge of the Warrior is far from the best of any god, though it does bear reembering that while Brianne may be LG, hankering back to an earlier age of heroism the god she serves is LN.

Haven't read the update yet but there is Speak with Soul, 80% chance egoo has already answered you though.
Thanks, you're a life saver.

@DragonParadox, I did a bit of thinking. We have a Fallen Priest in the Larder. An undead former priest of... I believe Vhagar? One of the Fourteen. He's currently in reserve to somehow exploit the Fifteenth or at the very least study the nature of the Fifteenth, but if we wanted to could we make an Unravelling out of him?

Genius.

I mean. We can just pose the question to Brienne herself (and her Patron). She's mature enough and has already experience true loss - yet peeps probably still treat her like a kid. A dose of brutal honesty shall bind her tighter to us, shall be appreciated.

@Goldfish Add the following?

"Will you keep to oaths sworn as a Lady, serve as leal subject even in defiance of the Warrior's teachings? Certainly, shall strive for such moments to never come to pass and wish not the Seven as enemies mine, but question must be asked." If she responds in the negative, strive to propose alternate solutions, like resurrecting Lord Tarth's other children. Or perhaps a compromise can be reached, like her giving ample notice of retirement from the position should she find she cannot reconcile two mantles.

Fire away, I say.
It's not like his connection to Fifteenth is that strong, either.
He's certainly not on F!Aegon level of "We have to capture this to attack the god"

Brienne is a Paladin, y'all, even if she is sworn to the Warrior. If she swears to obey our laws, she will do so. If she fails to do so, she will Fall and no longer be beholden to the Warrior.

[X] If Brienne is willing to swear her oath of fealty and obey the laws of our realm, we have no issue with her being the heir.
I like your vote, but I also want to offer to revive his son, as Brienne also have other responsibilities, and I personally would rather she spend her time training and leading a Paladin order instead of ruling Tarth.

Yeah that would work.
Alright. In that case:

[X] I would not ask her to serve two lieges. If she can't swear to truly heed us to be her liege before other oaths to the Faith or Divine, she can't fulfill her responsibility to the Crown.
-[X] We have a magic that can unravel any magical bond, even that between a God and his Chosen. If Brienne wants to succeed you, we can offer her that option.
-[X] Alternatively we could try raising his dead children, though depending on their age at the time of death that is more or less likely to succeed.
--[X] Use Speak with Soul and do your best to convince Lord Tarth's son to accept a resurrection to aid his family.

People, you are coming off as insanely hostile to a devout Steven worshipper about his faith. At least explain why in the sense of split duties and so on.

Maybe at the end of Lya's mythic path

So this thing

Yes but what I am proposing is a weapon that severs all connections. No eternal damnation, no pacts to keep secrets, no connection to said god and or devil whatsoever and then also no rescue attempts from said connection. None of that Baelor bullshit. He should have just let himself be sacrificed.

would only be possible to make after Lya's Mythic capstone?

I like this, but we should save it until we actually speak to Brienne.

I don't think we should offer Resurrection here, y'all. There are a lot of dead relatives among the Lords of Westeros. If we bring one back, what will be the argument against Resurrecting others?

The difference will be whether or not it's convenient to us.
I thought speak with soul was a rare spell we do not have access too?
We have access to it through the Tome of the Cabal Devil.

@Crake said it best. If she can't swear to truly heed us to be her liege before other oaths to the Faith or Divine, she can't fulfill her responsibility to the Crown.
We can answer Selwyn now, as my vote calls for, then see what Brienne herself has to say on the matter.

It's premature to mention Unravelings or Resurrection right now.
