This makes me unreasonably angry.
@DragonParadox is already giving us library bonuses to research - and now you want extra ones from individual books for individual creatures?
Even worse, you are saying "we have had extensive contact with..." - and you are thereby removing the only fig leaf of a "justification" you had, which was the idea that the effort put into getting those books deserved a reward.
I am against book-effects in general, honestly.
If we take the time to get books, it's to read the nice flavor text DP whips up. Not for another mechanical bonus.
I disagree with you here. The library takes care of generic knowledge for research, but the book collection is rare tomes, specialized knowledge on hyper-specific topics. There is nothing wrong, for example, with a book written by a dracolich about dracoliches giving a slight knowledge boost to knowledge of dragons/undead when studied.

Let's please not fight over minor knowledge bonuses for secondary characters whose checks are probably going to come up once in a blue moon. We made it though several weeks without a overnight fight and I would like to keep that up.

We can handle this in the morning.

Edit: seriously guys I do not want to wake up to an argument over something this silly

I disagree. Such a book should be a prerequisite, not a mechanical bonus. Best case, it could be a part of a library bonus increase to the relevant Knowledge skill.

See, my worry is that it might just be too much. If it was one thing I'm sure she'd take it but all the swords and other magical gear look a bit like blatant bribery.
We have the social skills to sell a cup of salt to a sentient slug, if we want. We can convince her it isn't bribery.
@Goldfish, how would the pricing look in that case?
I have no clue, to be honest. I don't like making it Constitution dependent, either.

I'm not a fan of there being mechanical bonuses attached to the books, at least beyond those providing bonuses to Knowledge checks related to the book's subject matter. All of the books and notes themselves are really useful for prospective adventurers simply because they contain basic knowledge about various sorts of monsters.

I don't even care about the matter that much.

All I wanted is a yay/nay on us having the rougly same supply of lore to share with people it would help on Devils/Fey/etc, that we have on some topics we had books written up IC.
Because, whoah, I want to cover all the bases we can, even if taht is never going to matter IC or on-screen/

In the interest of avoiding a fight (and keeping in mind that I am half asleep because that's when these things always have to happen for some reason) here is my ruling on extra books given to Brianne any information on threats beyond the special books you have comes from your common knowledge bonus. This is not generating new bonuses just sticking some of that abstracted knwolege in a box thus doing what @egoo wanted in a way that does not generate the extra bonuses @TalonofAnathrax dislikes.

Yep, me too. We're basically giving her a small starter library on dangers she might face as an adventuring Paladin. That's just as important as the enchanted gear, IMO.

I won't lie, that sounds like an absolutely awesome start to your Real Adventuring career.

Imagine you are playing Brienne Quest, you have just finished experimenting a bit of everything: devil slaying, having your morals tested, being on the backfoot while hunted, and finally unearthing corruption in your own home, but Saphire Island is finally clear.

You go to sleep, satisfied, and the next morning that sits by your bed, with the sunlight falling through the window and illuminating it. When you open it, a note with a three-headed dragon in the back and a suitably trollish but encouraging script falls from it. Inside, what looks like enough supplies for your own personal crusade.

End of Arc 1
Yeah, that would be pretty sweet.

It's also really necessary in Brienne's case. She has virtually no magical support and little prospect for getting any kind of useful magical gear except for whatever she manages to loot while cleaning out millennia old crypts plagued by the Undead, or other such situations. And as we saw early in the quest, that kind of gear is often neat fluff-wise but less than helpful for filling your immediate needs.

I'm tempted to also include some high quality arms and armor for Tarth armsmen who may be accompanying Brienne. That's something we can work out with her father, though.
How much will some of her stats increase as she gets older? Because judging by her canon feats and stature, some of those should go up way higher when she finishes growing.
Strength and Constitution should improve to one degree or another, but I don't expect much else to change.

We have done this before. Like with the guy we rescued from Baelor the Kingkiller. We just saw his shit gear, went poor thing, and just geared him up with everything we could at the time. Adventurers would probably love us and know of our grand generosity

Ah, Danar Crowl and Alyssa Grafton. Not only did we gear them up, we gave them a house in Sorcerer's Deep and a generous salary and starting fund, and we got a carte blanche from Bloodraven to use them in missions as we see fit. Excellent investment on our part.

By the way @Goldfish, their weapons should be upgraded to Valyrian Steel. They were given +1 Adamantine weapons IIRC.

Do we have character sheets for them? I don't think we do.

I guess I need to update their gear listing on the spreadsheet, along with everyone else for last month and what's been assigned this month. Been slacking on that. Project for tomorrow!

We know their levels but charactersheets were never made for them.

I can dig that up along with the gear we set aside for them. They're due on an upgrade anyway beyond the Valyrian Steel.

Part of me feels that this is fluffed as Viserys having Braavos flashbacks at seeing a PC scraping by with slapdash items that do not match or fill any everyday practical purpose, going "I know EXACTLY what you are going through, fam" and dumping money on them in the form of magic items that do everything remotely useful, even if they never enter his service officially.

Yes, exactly!

It feels like this would be a nice little foible developed by Viserys during the early days in Braavos. Now that he has the means, he tries to prevent other benevolent adventurers from struggling like we did.

We can assume they had nothing worth mentioning. They were actual murderhobos.

Right, I remember being jealous that they killed a Medusa before we did. I want one of those.
