*sigh*
And here that alternative proposal rears it's ugly head again...

It's been discussed to hell and back, many, many times.
Do we really need to bring this discussion back up?

Can't we just agree to stick with something that was painstalkingly statted up, written up, balanced, and kept track of for bonuses and maluses?
Praetorian Project may not be perfect, but it's the supersoldier programm I'm willing to stand by.

As in, the only supersoldier programm I'm willing to stand by.
:/

I really don't like giving out our scales. That is a tremendous weakness if it's ever captured, and can be devastating if used against us.
Also, that.
I somewhat keep being paranoid about all the Viserys' blood that was spilled and not properly disposed odd throughout the quest, for one .

These things would be much, much worse a risk.

G'night ya'll.

IIRC, it crumbles to dust if it's removed or they die.

And we can always add in a contingency to guarantee that.
If this is guaranteed I have no objections.
So, in Sothoryos, there is:
- Ryzneth's (port?) city.
- That city with the wild magic zone and the entrance to the Underdark, or at least to where there are more drow.
- The mountain of silver that sits nearby.
- Some other city where we got our second Lesser Quickening Rod, and Valaena failed to find the rest.
?
Riz'Neth's port city
Riz'Neth's actual city with some kind of mechanical clockwork heart but it's broken and needs to be fixed at some point (Anu and Lya would probably be interested) -- this is where the Rod of Greater Quickening is
The silver mountain
Venthar, the former Drow city with the wild magic and the Underdark entrance
At least a dozen other serpentfolk cities which Yss told us about

And a bunch of other things. Including a Belaerys girl and her Awakened Valyrian Dragon who might be alive right now.

Will we report back to Stannis with how that was resolved?

Because I'd very much like to drop some "homework", i.e. to have him research Father Sky.

Should make talking about converting much, much easier if he already knows what we are talking about.
Does anyone remember if human sacrifices were made to Stormy?

Maybe we'll catch some bandits that have been making bargains with Demons or have formed a Daemon Cult. If we're lucky, we could have a training wheels sacrifice available for Stannis to make an introduction to Stormy.

He didn't like human sacrifices, but he accepted the sacrifice of monsters. Very convenient considering the impending Deep Ones assault.

Very neat Alison interlude, @DragonParadox. In her own way, she's come even further than Viserys has since the start of the quest.
Viserys and company have all had distinct character arcs come to think of it, which is amazing in itself.

@DragonParadox

Viserys: Becoming who he had to be for the role he set for himself, then accepting the ultimate cost of those actions.

Lya: Coming to realize what she valued when she was basically given everything she could have wanted while starting from nothing. Less transformative by far but poignant in a way.

Dany: Grappling with her darker nature and carving out her own path in the world, and this time she doesn't give up on her only family as they never resented or took her for granted, and she had seen enough of what could have been to know the broadstrokes of how bad it could have been. The really big part in this quest for me was seeing Viserys shout at her in fear and anger over her risking her life without speaking up about it first because she wanted to help people more than she cared about life itself.

Richard: Joining up with Viserys out of self-loathing at how at how far he'd fallen since the rebellion and in cynical hope of rewards like land, wealth or honors, none of which he really gives a shit about three years later with his primary defining characteristic being stubborn and defiant loyalty to Viserys, who treats him more like an older brother and friend than either ever connected with Rhaegar.

Garin: Making peace with his predatory nature by turning it to productive ends, and securing a life and future for his entire family, not just a wife and children but his aunt close as a sister who he had thought lost to him.

Waymar: Becoming wiser in how he practiced his virtues and paradoxically more heroic as he takes up greater burdens like trying to redeem the institution of Knighthood despite it being thoroughly tarnished.

Tyene: Becoming comfortable enough that her primary face presented is her femme fatale side rather than the ingenue, and learning that vengeance fills no void even though it can sometimes be a fringe benefit, as well as the true cost of war, something not all her sisters have learned yet.

Maelor: Overcoming his horrific childhood to learn responsibility and even a measure of kindness despite his blood sharing that of dragons and demons.

Rina: Finding a place she belongs and can feel alive despite having been dead, rejected, and not feeling she deserved the consideration.

Xor: Learning more about what it means to be human, despite being an elderitch abomination from beyond the skein of reality, and more compassionate than some of them too, by far.

Malarys: Even if it isn't for altruistic reasons, he has really come into his own and handled the civic-minded role of his duties with elan and dedication even if it wasn't at all what he was expecting out of life, even opening up enough to have real friends.

  • [X] Speak more with Stannis
-[X] We have no interest in brigands and cutthroats excusing their crimes by playing at being loyal to the Dragon Banner. If Stannis wishes, we can offer assistance in removing those who are operating in the Stormlands.
--[X] If they are truly loyalists fighting in our name and their crimes not worthy of death under our legal code, they will be brought into the fold and financial compensation will be offered to their victims. If they are merely opportunists trying to legitimize their crimes by using our name, they will be brought to him to face justice as he sees fit.
---[X] If Stannis desires our assistance, we will track them down with all the resources at our disposal. If he would prefer to handle them himself, we will respect his decision and trust in his capabilities.
----[X] If Stannis doesn't want our help, instead depart Storm's End and head for Tarth to check in on Brienne. Quite some time has passed since we last spoke and it appears she has been busy.

Part MMCMXXXII: On Unseen Wings
On Unseen Wings

Eighth Day of the Tenth Month 293 AC

It will take a while yet to make full use of all you have learned today, to deal with the Houses of the Stormlands one way or another, to see the Storm God restored, even just to get the measure of Brianne of Tarth once again, but there is one matter that you feel you must address at once. "My lord, before we depart I have but one more question for you—do you wish me to deal with these bands that claim to fight in my name?"

Stannis does not answer in haste, the discussion regarding clemency of thieves and pirates, obviously still on his mind. "The smallfolk will be glad to see an end to brigandage, Your Grace, and the sooner the better." From the almost hesitant tone you get the sense that he is trying to meet you halfway, though he is still dubious about the prospect. That too he would doubtlessly call merely his duty if you pointed it out.

"It will be done by the morrow, my lord," you announce confidently.

To that the Lord of Storm's End only nods, not challenging the promise of a swift resolution. So upon saying your goodbyes to the lord and lady of the house as well as to Shireen, the three of you depart by sorcery, though you do not travel far.

***

You had flown over Cape Wrath years before on your first surreptitious return to Westeros after your exile. Looking down upon the verdant tapestries of the Rainwood it seems as though nothing had changed since about them since then, the long lives of trees looking on over a world unchanged, yet you know that is not so. Somewhere beneath those wooded vaults there are men who say they fight for you as rightful King of the Seven Kingdoms. Remembering the fate of Goodwell, almost doomed by a bee sting, you cannot say you do not understand why smallfolk might wish to take to the woods no matter what banner they may choose to fly.

Regardless it is not banners you must find now, but other simpler signs of human habitation. Rather than look yourself besides Dany and your mother, expending magic to weave veils, you instead call upon a handful of Greater Ravens from the Deep to serve as your eyes and ears through the woods, searching high and low alike.

It does not take long for your spies to return, for the tricks and deceptions that might hide a camp from the ground are far less effective to a watcher on the wing. "Found the camp, found it I did," one of the ravens proclaims loudly. "It has an old banner that might be a dragon... not a good one, though, mold and mice have been at it."

"Bah, you found a camp in the forest, what's so hard about that?" another caws mockingly. "I found a forager so you can interrogate her in peace without having to reveal yourself to the camp with everyone shouting their tales true and false at the top of their voices."

What do you do?

OOC: A really short update, but under the circumstances I think it works well enough.

this empire in the making will touch far more souls than any single spell could ever hope to
Isn't it great to live in a setting that isn't written by an eyeball fetishist?

Still, he's utterly wrong. I can think of many spells that will touch more souls - for example, whatever created the Others !
Or any Awakened Living Spell that achieves proper apocalyptic status.
And I'm sure the Bloodstone Emperor is willing to give it a go too...

[X] Speak to the forager first to get a sense of the group
-[X] Who are they?
-[X] What other groups do they know of, and where are the camps located?
-[X] What drove them to banditry in the first place?
-[X] What, precisely, have they been doing in our name?
-[X] What supernatural activity are they aware of in the Stormlands?
-[X] What rumors have they heard in general?
-[X] If the answers aren't too bad, relocate them to Sorcerer's Deep and make them productive citizens. If they've been particularly savage and heartless to the smallfolk, deliver them to Stannis for justice.

Those are not really singular spells as the Sealord understands them, more magical calamities.

By the way, I loved the infrastructure chapter. Thanks for writing it, DP!

I dunno about everyone else in the thread, but I do care about institutions and whatnot. The Sealord is obviously wrong in this setting (sufficiently powerful PCs are everything, really), but my fondness for IRL institutionalism makes me care a lot of ASWAH's ones anyway :D

An ACSEC Office will be opened in Pentos and Lamentation in Draconys.
So, I should add to the maps below:

1) 1 ACSEC office (with a Whispering Bazier for Trade purposes) and 1 strategic Whispering Brazier to Pentos,
2) 1 ACSEC office added to Draconys (already done :p)

--------------------------(Unrelated to chapter, but previously pointed out)---------------------------------
3) Mark Vaes Leisi as our "unofficial territory" since we are set on building a super-fprtress there.
4) Mark all of Yi Ti yellow for an Intrigue/Diplomacy target.
5) Mark Norvos red for an invasion target, unless they beat us to the chase and try to surrender.
6) Mark Lorath red for an invasion target.
7) Color Skane as "ours" now.
8) Re-color Snekport in "Diplomacy"
9) Add Gogoss' as our territory, with Whispering Brazier
*) Actually add names of provinces to Political Map where I effed them up.

Current maps (no abovementioned changes yet):

Blue - The Imperium
Turquoise - Unofficial Vassals
Green - Allies
Yellow - Intrigue / Diplomacy Targets
Red - Invasion Targets

Blue Brazier - Regular Whispering Brazier for governmental use
Red Brazier - Interplanar Whsipering Brazier for governmental use
ACSEC Shield - ACSESC office
Mirror - Mirrorvision

That seems it? @Duesal?

Also, @Goldfish, @Crake, why haven't we placed a Mirrorvision at Pentos?
The Infrastructure page tells me we have 3 more..?

Made a few minor edits, DP.

I love the Raven Constructs' lines, especially the second one. He's plucky. :)

Same.

Also while the Sealord overly downplays PCs and what they can do, he's not wrong in principle, he just assumes Viserys and co. will fail but leave behind the mechanisms at least, or at least pass it on to heirs. The fact that he has faith enough to trust in an eventually slightly flawed end result of a visionary's dream of empire is touching! :V

The headquarters will technically be done at the end of the month but I do not see any harm in adding them now

We can and should add a MirrorVision mirror to Pentos.

@DragonParadox, that was the intention all along, but I guess we didn't think to actually specify it. Can we assume this has just happened in the background?
