Yeah, aren't they insanely angry at everything and even themselves? How the heck is it able to set up a shop and interact with others without trying to brutally murder or enslave everything?
I assume the Angry Marines approach to their anger.
"WHAT?! I CAN FUCK UP MORE SHIT IF I SPEND A SMALL AMOUNT OF TIME DOING THIS "SELLING" THING?! FUCK YES! FUCK YOU!"

It's not so much that Beholders are angry at everything, as they are incredibly mistrusting and hateful, of everything that's not themselves, and every beholder has 2 brains with distinct souls, and they don't really see the other brain as fully part of themselves, so while they don't necessarily hate their other half, they sure don't trust it, the equivalent to enlightenment/Zen for a Beholder, is for their 2 brains to trust each other.

We're totally stopping there, then. One free summarized collection of laws, please.

We are totally starting there.

Why wouldn't you want to be told what is illegal when entering a place like this? Devils are guarding the remanant of Heaven. I expect a lot of legalistic bullshit made from reforms upon reforms of two opposing ideologies whoose only thing in common is their love for respecting their laws.

The Erinye we talked with before entering, said the Archon's write the laws the Devils enforce them, so the laws are probably very benevolent, but the punishment for breaking them are very harsh.

We are already on the market, so we should propably do the shopping first and then go there.

"Stopping there" as in "Oh let's stop by that stall over there," not as in "let's make this literally the last place we visit before we go back home."

Also this.

Meh, it is way more important to gather information first. But I guess that is we are only looking then there is no problem about that.

Alright, crazy theory:
Beholders around aren't guaranteed to be batshit insane anymore. Not to a "person", anyway.
Because Great Void fucked shit up.
Eh? Why?

...okay, no, blaming it all on "Others did it!" doesn't work..
Hmmmmm...
*sleeps away in search for a better target to drop all the accusations and paranoia on now, now that Lucan is busy*
Probably not that complicated.

Beholder likes itself, hates everything else. Presumably it likes living more than it would like being brutally murdered by a bunch of devils looking for an excuse.

Cost benefit analysis. Stay here and act sane, profit, stay here and act crazy, death.

Now leaving here and acting like a complete and total maniac and then coming back is a decent compromise, don't shit where you eat and all that.
