This is perfect.

So, what's most irreplaceable? Following that, what's most necessary? As part of that, what does Ling Qi most lack that's filled by one of these?

I think that's the priorities I'd have. First if something here is unique with no substitutions available I'd grab that and deal with substitutions for the others. If they all have legitimate substitutions and there wasn't an easy way to say "this one has by far the biggest advantage over its substitutions", then whatever I most need, probably defined by what is most lacking (presuming they all fit, which I expect here).

They all sound so very interesting, though I'm partial to flight. I wonder how it'd interact with her gown, would it be used to boost her even faster?
I'm pretty sure all of this three do have substitutions in the archive. The flight one seems like the one most likely to be rare and we already know AFL exists.

Well the thing is, SCS is ending soon so we kinda need a new really good movement art. But so is TRF so we kinda need new one for defensive/buff too. And we dont have neither offensive nor defensive social arts. Our current buff arts are weakish beside TRF that is, like I said, ending soon. Ditto Debuff...

So we kinda need em all? :cry:

Oooooh damn. Lovely update, all sorts of good stuff in there, but for now: LOOT

[] The pale grey lights of the Hidden Moon
{Imperturbable Starlight Mantle; Defensive Social and Defensive Combat art}

[] The sparkling many colored lights of the Dreaming Moon
{Trickster King's Devious Oratory; Offensive Social and Spiritual Buff/debuff Art]

So, obviously the real answer is to take all of them and never ever let go. That being said, since we have to choose, I do feel the Dreaming Moon choice is slightly redundant with our current suite. That doesn't make it bad, but I think the other two choices might add more to the overall build.

Between those two, though... the Grinning Moon art seems like a flying/stealth art, which seems great for our purposes, more stealth is definitely useful, and so is flying... a combination of the two, even more.

On the other hand, we are in dire need of a new defensive art, and TRF was something of an outlier to begin with, a successor seems unlikely - the Hidden Moon's art is a perfect fit for that, and I'd give better odds for finding an SCS successor than a TRF one, so perhaps this would be the time to take a defensive moon art.

Ultimately, I am leaning towards the mantle right now, but I have to admit that like 20% of that choice is purely because the description sounds awesome. If anyone has compelling arguments for taking Laughing Flight of the Wind Thief over Imperturbable Starlight Mantle, I may be swayed.

I think our course is clear!

{jk} Use both hands to each grab a light, get the third one with our teeth.

Can Ling Qi really call herself a follower of the Grinning Moon if we try anything less?

The update and look at the old tribes of the Emerald Sea is pretty neat. Ling Qi's choice to take out of the archive was interesting. She knows it's going cause trouble and accepts it.

But anyway, the most important part is this

he Grinning Moon… had taken a seat atop the shoulder of the frozen scholar, balanced impossibly despite her size. The man's still features were marked by glowing lines of fluorescent ink, irreverently scribbled.

The Grinning Moon just spent her time doodling on the guy's face. That's amazing.

All three arts seem really interesting, but the Dreaming Moon art is the one that seems like it would have the most benefits to us in the quest as:
a) It makes us better at the bard type role we are increasingly heading into,
b) It would tie into our standard combat approach of endurance via debuffs,
c) It would be very helpful for the arena we will be taking part next year and allow us to be more useful in a team likely to be filled with monsters

They're all cool. Flight is always cool, and the origin had a cool anecdote; a starlight mantle is the perfect accessory for our favorite human fairy; and I quite enjoy the idea of Ling Qi having such cutting smack talk that it counts as a debuff while being so entertaining that it counts as a buff (that's how I imagine it, anyway).

Hahh, yeah. I definitely want to see all of them too. They all sound so fun and useful.

LFWT is my favorite of the bunch. It's a kind of a successor to SCS and looks like it provides flight or use it. Plus Ling Qi hasn't been the most sneaky recently and a sneak/mobility/dodge art is right her alley. And it may be our first Moon/Wind stealth art so I'm really excited about this one.

"X art is ending in Green 2-3" is not the best reason to try for a replacement. ALL of our arts with the exception of PLR are ending in Green 2-3, and this includes arts we've picked up this year. We are only Green 2 ourselves, and we shouldn't expect to reach further than Green 4-5 by the tournoument. If we reach Green 5 at all, we will not have had much time in it, so the best we can expect to have polished is Green 4 arts. And while quality arts at that tier are going to be meaningfully stronger than Green 2-3 arts, it is not to the point where we would want to unequip the former, particularly for quality arts. Better to keep them around for the flexibility and the passives, if nothing else.

Obviously higher level arts are better, but we don't need to worry about having to literally replace our current arts and obtain their capabilities elsewhere; at least not for a while, anyways. E.g. if we pick up no defense arts at the Green 3+ level, our defense will suffer somewhat, but it is not like we will be defenseless; it just won't be a core strength.

So I just got confirmation from Yrsillar that the Dreaming Moon option means speech, not singing or any music. Which makes me like the King's Oratory option a lot less. Hmm...for now I'm choosing Starlight Mantle. It actually kinda fits a headcannon I had a while ago for one of LQ's new arts.

{} Ling Qi is greedy and takes both.

/jk

but not really

One point I'll note is that getting SCS+ would not remove our need for a second stealth art.

We'd still want something like ENM (at least following the current system).

Ugh if that mobility art didn't have wind I would want it but bleeeech wind.

I know it's not a popular opinion but one of my favorite things is when flighty musical Ling Qi just tanks a kill shot from a peer and shrugs it off. Ji Rong putting a fist in her gut so hard lightning shot out her spine only for Ling Qi to glare and blast him with a sub zero toot from her flute was one of my favorite scenes from the tournament.

...but I also want Ling Qi to shout at her friends until they (spiritually) become swole

Fuuuuuuck Yrs I want it all

Maaaaaaan. Zhengui is gonna be a Sage by the time we're done teaching him with all the weird crap he's experienced already.

I still want the Night Parade though. I'm leaning towards the Offensive Social just because I like how it is named, but maybe thats just me.

[] The ethereal green lights of the Grinning Moon.
{Laughing Flight of the Wind Thief; Mobility and Stealth Art}

Pro: A stealth art, and probably a fucking high quality one. If we want to go for stealth as a main core element of our build, it's probably the best chance to do that.
Con: Our only 'great' art for Green 3+ is already a mobility art. This would mean double dipping heavily in mobility above everything else.

Note: It might be very very good for our 'if you don't have perception you can't hit us' attack cancels from PLR. It might also not help at all with it. It is also hard to know how much it overlaps with PLR, really. Hopefully not that much.

[] The pale grey lights of the Hidden Moon
{Imperturbable Starlight Mantle; Defensive Social and Defensive Combat art}

Pro: self-replacement for TRF, except it's probably both spiritual and physical. Given TRF finishes Green 2, that's really big.
It's also a mantle, and the name makes me think it could actually do stuff like MNO and gives perception debuffs to enemies.

Con: Self-only means that we are having less and less AoE/control aspects in our build by replacing a AOE main pure defensive art into a self-only one.

[] The sparkling many colored lights of the Dreaming Moon
{Trickster King's Devious Oratory; Offensive Social and Spiritual Buff/debuff Art]

Pro: FVM replacement, and the name (trickster) hints that it might have some stealth part in it like FVM.
Con: Might be using speech instead of music, which would force our AoE combat-control ability into non-music territory.
