Any knights who are landed should hopefully have the good sense to hire qualified experts for the really complicated parts of land management. Their day to day work should be law enforcement, bandit/monster hunting and training men-at-arms at the local level to assist them.

There's also the fact that landed nobility, such as these knights, have the constitutional duty to improve their lands. We will yet make merchants out of the Westerosi.

And these guys who got sweet spots of land and some nudging? They will grow rich for it. Even the Westerosi understand the honour and virtue of a well filled treasury.

[ ] Glyra and her Dawnkin Gremlins will spread across the Imperium with the resources to do something creative for the children, such as telling riddles, organizing games and rewarding good deeds. Try to work in a contest of some sort. Winners receive Companion and King metal figurines?

@Goldfish, not sure if you saw this, but what about for the Sorcery first place we let the winner choose one scroll of any spell up to the 6th circle, assuming they don't ask for anything forbidden?

I'd rather just give them the gear and money. They can buy scrolls with their prize money, if they want.

There's... really no reason to hand out a scroll with a spell of the 6th circle on it to a minor mage.

And now it's time to vote, folks. I think we've got everything covered, barring some minor adjustments that might need to be made.

I'm not seeing a reason for the resistance here. It'd just be a neat prize, and what would motivate the mages is the sheer amount of spells they'd get to choose from. It wouldn't cost much at all for us.

So, fun fact, talking to someone about why a chapter is causing you issues truly does work wonders! Many, many thanks go to @Sqweaktoy once again for helping me here after I spent several days working this up one side and down the other, trying to work out how to put this across. I'm aware some of the thread may not agree with parts of how this comes across, but in the end, it's an important part of how Black Magic appears to function in the Dresden-verse. It's a horrible, horrible feedback loop, built around how a DF mage has to believe that what they're doing is right. If they don't? Then the magic fails. And if they do…well, I think the update explained where that can lead.

This isn't going to be the easiest set of sections for Viserys, or Harry. Fortunately, the next bunch of Warlocks are a right bunch of arseholes. Where was the earth-shattering kaboom should be forthcoming.

Note: if it wasn't clear as daylight, the example shown here is probably the most likely way in which I would fall to Black Magic if DF magic was a thing and I possessed it. I didn't mean to do this initially, but it just kinda happened. I hope people will forgive this.

It reads like a Paladin Wizard where the God you answer to is yourself, your abilities do not work if you break your tenets and there is no external force to make those tenets stick in place, they drift with the individual and their circumstances.

You write that it isn't a magical change to the person so how would Harry view Viserys through this lense, while most DnD magic does not require this level of belief Viserys generally does hold himself to that standard, he doesn't do things he knows to be wrong or unecessary, they must be right and required and once he has decided that he commits fully because to do so with anything less than his full conviction is so much worse.

That has changed him over time too.

Can someone post the complete vote up for us to look at? There's been a bunch of additions, and I have some ideas for the westerosi PR campaign.

Strongly centralized faiths have a pesky habit of becoming states within states.

We will reinterpret the scripture so that there will be no more Most Devout or High Septons, as they are unnecessary. Every faithful can find the Seven in his own way and Septon is merely a guide on that path. To instate hierarchy within the faith is to distance the faithful from the Seven and thus a sin.

If DP allows me to use bible quotes as stand-in for the Seven Pointed Star, I can argue this to death.

Now this I can get behind, I like it very much Azel.

Though I'm told by members of the thread that there are absolutely no parallels between The Seven and Christianity, none at all no siree.

About the Planar Trade action, don't forget to get the intel from the Shaitan spymaster. We have a living Shaitan from the tower, and the efreet soul who has intel about the Brazen Throne.

Can we also have had retroactively sent out flyers months before? Like say we're holding a joust in celebration of the conquest of Tyrosh. It's not our fault that the other two daughters folded into our realm in the interim... Totally not our fault at all :V

  • [X] Plan "Shut up and get in my bottle!"
-[X] Dany uses the Blackened Rod to cast a Daylight spell as a Swift Action in order to render the Shadow Demon powerless. (assuming she prepared a Daylight spell for the occasion; if not, she just Dreamcasts it).
-[X] Viserys casts a Transdimensional Blood Wished Smoky Confinement spell to capture the Shadow Demon (assuming he used Ancestral Awakening to learn Transdimensional Spell before they summoned the Shadow Demon; if not, he uses it, then proceeds as planned).
-[X] Allow Maelor to chat with his father using Lya's spirit drum, if he wishes. Otherwise, to the Larder with him.
    [X] Planar Trade
-[X] Attempt to arrange a meeting with the Shaitan Vizier in order to learn of the latest news of the war, vital missions that may need to be undertaken in the future, and what intel, if any, was garnered from the Shaitan we freed from the Sultan's Prison Tower.
    -[X] Obtain Planar Currency:
--[X] Take 6.5 million IM of Gold from your reserve.
--[X] Buy trade goods for part of that sum on Planetos.
--[X] Sell the trade goods and the gold in Amun Kelisk to obtain planar currency, half of it Silk Notes and the other half Glass Scepters.
    -[X] Regular buying:
--[X] Buy crafting materials for 500,000 Imperial Marks in the Opaline Vault.
--[X] Buy two more sets of Titan Tools there.
--[X] Pick up the last commission and commission another 4 Mindblank items.
--[X] Look for some Elysian Bronze, Griffons, and Hippogriffs.
    -[X] Land Buying:
--[X] Speak with the appropriate office or the palace in Amun Kelisk to learn what is necessary to buy land in the city for a Planar Terminus and at what price it could be obtained.
    [X] Festival Planning
    --[X] Nitty Gritty Details:
---[X] 150 Tonnes of steel will be used to produce extremely complex and highly detailed/faceted colored figurines as described here and here.
---[X] 100,000 Imperial Marks used as a discretionary budget by the organizers to fund the following:
---[X] Alms for the poor. The Westerosi ideal.
---[X] Feasts and balls for the nobility. No gauche or tasteless theming. Essosi are very particular about appearances, so try to keep that in mind, but if there's any central theme, it will be decidedly "Imperial". Rhaella's book will be these people's gospel.
---[X] Honoring the Legion. Make sure their field rations are upgraded to full-on catering following grand speeches or momentous announcements this month.
--[X] The Mirror Vision network will be used for a variety of purposes this month, including:
---[X] Glyra and her Dawnkin Gremlins will spread across the Imperium with the resources to do something creative for the children, such as telling riddles, organizing games and rewarding good deeds. Try to work in a contest of some sort. Winners receive Companion and King metal figurines?
---[X] During free moments throughout the month, when not holding court functions, not giving grand sweeping speeches or making momentous announcements, he will interview various people throughout the Imperium, asking carefully prepared questions which either serve an educational purpose, or merely pure and simple propaganda. Teana would lean towards the former, Waymar the latter, as an example. Include a discussion with someone like up-and-coming business owners in SD or Tyrosh who have really taken advantage of the greatest changes that have occurred these last several months. Or a former Slave who has managed to work his way up to an Officer, for surely there is at least one or two by now. Make sure they are well-coached beforehand. The setting should be equally tasteful and suited to the interviewee.
---[X] Announce the Dates of Tournament events throughout the month in between other things taking up your time, and where more information can be acquired (details on prizes, what the events involve, where they are held).
---[X] Make a series of speeches spaced throughout the month, about:
--[X] 1) The Network of roads, bridges and canals, both completed and planned. The sweeping changes these infrastructural improvements will bring, the guard posts that will secure them and all who travel through the land, and the messengers who dutifully connect the people to each other from far and wide.
--[X] 2) The Legion and their due diligence upon the field of war, the unfortunate reality that the chaos of the age has required their constant vigilance and presence across the realm, that they simply have no time for a public parade of any sort, but their struggle is not forgotten (nor, implicitly, the people they are being employed against).
--[X] 3) The Annexation of Myr and the Conquest of Lys, the events preceding and unfolding at present, and what will be done from there with their acquisition.
    -[X] Invitations:
--[X] Get a selection of good fighters with the appropriate skill set for each event from the 1st Legion with General Torchwood making the suggestions. Inform the soldiers that it might be possible that not all of them will be able to compete, as you do not want to appear to stack the deck. At most 25% of the attendees of each event can be Legionaries.
--[X] Send Three-Eyed Ravens to Westeros and let them drop off broadsheets announcing the tourney and festival at taverns and to keeps of minor knights, stating the prizes to be won.
--[X] Every ship departing to Westeros will carry the same message.
--[X] Invite your Westerosi allies (Brune, Velaryon, Doran, Bronze Yon) by brazier. Tell them that you fully understand if they can't attend in person due to the short notice and political concerns, but that you will gladly receive them or whomever they want to send, such as heirs and loyal knights.
--[X] Tell Lord Commander Mormont about the event and offer him to Teleport some recruiters to SD so that he might get a few men out of this.
    -[X] Tourney:
--[X] Include a joust, a melee, archery and a spellcasting event.
---[X] The joust and archery events will be handled in the traditional manner.
----[X] There will be no melee free-for-all. Instead fighters will be paired against one another in single elimination bracket matches that will be broadcast via MirrorVision each day of the festival. Between matches, the fighters will be healed of injuries so that each round is between two fresh combatants. The final day of the festival will see the last round of matches between eight semi-finalists.
-----[X] Mage duels will be handled similarly to the melee event, though the final day of the festival will only pit the two finalists against one another, due to the limited magic available to low level spellcasters.
    --[X] The prizes will be:
    ---[X] Joust:
----[X] 1st Prize: 5,000 Imperial Marks, Valyrian Steel weapon of choice, Valyrian Steel armor of choice, +1 horse barding of choice, +1 Shield of choice, Amulet of Tears, Gloves of Heroes Strength (+2 Strength), Healing Belt (+2 Constitution), Ring of Protection from Evil. ----[X] 2nd Prize: 3,000 Imperial Marks, +1 Dragonbone Longbow (w/Strength bonus customized to the winner), Quiver of Abundant Ammunition, Gloves of Zephyr's Grace (+2 Dexterity), Healing Belt (+2 Constitution), Ring of Protection from Evil.
----[X] 3rd Prize: 1,500 Imperial Marks, +1 Dragonbone Longbow (w/Strength bonus customized to the winner).

----[X] 3rd Prize: 1,500 Imperial Marks, Valyrian Steel weapon of choice, Valyrian Steel armor of choice.
    ---[X] Sorcery:

----[X] 3rd Prize: 1,500 Imperial Marks, Healing Belt (+2 Constitution), Ring of Protection from Evil, Stat Booster appropriate to the mage's class (Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma)
[X] King's Landing Action (Not festival related, but this seemed like a good time to add it)
-[X] Mia and Anya will cooperate with the companions on their respective missions, but maintain some degree of separation for OpSec.
-[X] Try to subvert or infiltrate existing information networks.
-[X] Set up at least 3 independent cells that know nothing about each other and all get separate orders.
-[X] At least one cell should be based in Fleabottom.
-[X] Look for loyalists in the Gold Cloaks to subvert.
-[X] Look for multipliers like courtesans, bartenders, money lenders, organised crime, etc.
    -[X] Potential locations for cells:
--[X] Near the Fish Market to observe events in the harbor,
--[X] Between the Hook and the Muddy Way, to observe events in the better areas near the keep.
--[X] Between Cobblers Square and the Street of Steel, to observe events in the western barracks of the Gold Cloaks and the Great Sept of Baelor.
--[X] In Fleabottom, due to the locale offering security from the Gold Cloaks and ample disposable patsies.
--[X] Between the Eastern Barracks and the Street of Silk, to observe the garrison and to use the courtesans as information sources.
[X] Let Maelor handle the conversation
-[X] But give him silent support. We are here for him and he is not alone.
[X] Let Maelor handle the conversation

Looks good. We will probably deplete Westeros of knight by waving all that sweet VS into their faces.

I just realized something. This is a tournament where we are getting people from all across our empire and other foreign entities to fight correct?

You think we should make them swear an oath not to sell their Valyrian Steel weapons or armor to the Lannisters or anyone else?
I don't think we'll need to worry.

Tywin was said to have a 100,000 Gold Dragon offer for anyone who would sell him a Valyrian Steel blade.

Not a single house, not even the poorest ones, took up his offer.

Yes.

@Goldfish, we forgot the Team Battle. Use brackets there too and limit it to 4 people per team. Prize would be the same as in the other events per person and a budget to commission custom gear from the royal enchanters.

Ah...that's going to be difficult to pull off. I can squeeze the other stuff into the crafting schedule, but probably not that much more gear. Do we need a team battle? Or one that gives those kinds of prizes?

[X] Goldfish

Now that I know the knights winning is a hypothetical I am not too worried. Especially considering that the people who would win such a tournament would probably have PC levels at the least.
