The war can be prevented at this point with a excellent roll on the riskiest diplo action. We have little to lose if we fail. War? Most players want to declare war to Aquila, why else would the players do everything possible to encourage Aquila to fight in a war against us?

Edit: Who knows if we will still have this chance to reconcile next turn.
Exactly, an excellent roll, one of 80 or higher. The chances of achieving it are so low that it's not worth it.

Also, the only thing we did to piss off Aquila is to have ships and help our neighbors with a monstrous infestation. And keep in mind that Brochard is aware that, sooner or later, our interests are going to collide.

'roll eyes' This war is our fault. We want the war to happen. We are doing nothing to stop it other than to play possum. A 80 is no issue when the alternative is a 0% of success because we no longer can try and stop the war.

King Brochard is weary bad at diplomacy and there might be a possibility that he pretty much thought that only way for him to get access to the seas is with force.

Also, the only thing we did to piss off Aquila is to have ships and help our neighbors with a monstrous infestation.
Also we need to keep in mind that he was pissed at our army being at his borders and well let's be honest here we didn't help our neighbour out of good will.

We chose the warrior waifu, locked out their sea access, never bothered to attempt a 40% diplo action. We should expect our current leading diplo action to further worsen Aquilla relations. Aquilla has no allies, the League and Wingbardy have received complaints from Aquila.

We have only encouraged Aquila to need to declare war. Eventually Aquila may have no choice. This turn may very well be a last chance to actually try and avoid the war we are encouraging by avoiding to even talk with Aquila.

Edit: We lose nothing if we fail the Aquila diplo action.

We chose her because she had the best connections, had a good genetic trait, and covered our worse stat. She also comes with her father who seem to take a lot after his real world counterpart. We didn't lock out their sea access we can now just keep an eye on their ships. We never bothered with the diplo action because it was low and we didn't have enough bonuses. Aquilla is doing that to themselves let them. We just need to look after our own issues. What actions securing our own waters and keeping our neighbors from being killed then leaving afterwards. Aquilla would be stupid to declare war right now they have no CB they would be ostracized by the rest. If they are obviously just be expansionist the other states will not take it sitting down and will act.

Okay i decided to support this because war really isn't in anyones interest and we might have a chance at peaceful unification.

This way we will pretty much know where we truly stand with King Brochard and what he wishes.
If he accepts than it means that there is a chance of peaceful unification as he probably knows that we are after it, if he refuses whole Griffonia will know that we are the one who sued for peace and it will increase our standing(it win for us either way)

So let's give a peace a chance .

We have a diplo bonus, +18. We knew that back in turn 2. We skipped the opportunity in turn 3. Turn 4 now, why is failing bad? We are building up to fight a war against Aquila. We are encouraging a war with Aquila. What can Aquila do that we won't try and crush, because we fear them?

Diplomacy: Elva Von Cleef is a stern eyed and stiff necked old bird. But she's been negotiating deals between city-states since before you were born. Negotiating deals between kingdoms was the logical next step for her. (One Action Per Turn)

-Feathersian Trade Routes: Feathersians are a profit-oriented lot, and their nature as a decentralized group of independent city-states means it shouldn't be too difficult to find someone willing to make a deal with you. Float the idea of trade agreements with some of the neighboring cities and see if any take you up on the offer. Cost: 100. Time: One Year. Reward: Trade Income, chance of better relations with Feathersian League. Chance of Success: 80%

Required: 20. Rolled: 32+18=50
But fine, we are doing everything to not declare war first. Roiiiiiiiiggght.

Edit: Okay wow, uh I feel sheepish. I'm sorry, I think I got a little heated. I realize the intention was defence, and feel we are traveling a road of no return if don't even try diplomacy. I also want to reread the naval issues, I may be misinterpreting that.

I really think we should try and make peace with our rival, theres a path for it and its not like we gain much by taking it over with force rather then diplomacy.

Actually we gain economy, army and land not ruined by the war and i mean if we are willing to extend a hand to diamond dogs and Changelings we might as well extend it to fellow Griffon.

I'd like to put forward the idea that getting the dogs on our side as it gives us a people very experienced with tunneling through the earth (good for getting at all those metals in our land) and new troop options and if a vote where that's something we choose is chosen @Questor I'd like to put my +15 there.

... Damn, now I'm tempted.

We can gain the army, exonomy, and land from merging with the other country which we can do diplomatically.

The point of trying the Olive Branch option isn't actually to succeed. (albeit success would be nice).

The point is that we are seen and heard trying to keep things peaceful. This is key. The League has a noticeable faction who wants to try sanctioning the kingdoms to prevent war. Show them that we aren't the problem... The sanctions, if they are implemented, would likely be implemented one direction only.

I think with groups as mercantile and mercenary as the league it's more important to be the stronger force than the one in the right as long as we don't directly threaten them.
