Damn. :/

Okay. I really think we made a bad deal here. We should have pulled a Relath and demanded 75% instead of 50% since it's obvious we're bringing the vast majority of the firepower.

Like, the most they're doing is pointing us in the right direction.
But the basic premise when he made the offer was that we are a single CR15 creature.
We should have cleared that up before agreeing to the deal if we wanted a fair share.

But right now I'm fine with making a bad deal in exchange for getting a good contact and earmarking future minions with a generous impression.

Of course. A promise that it won't impact their share will be most persuasive, but you can try other things.
But we want a larger share :V

Just need to be reasonable about it.

Not really too recognizable.
Ah, the woes when you don't have a carrying capacity in the millions of pounds...

Anyway, would they be amenable to:
a) We keep the ship
b) They give us info on other targets that we could hit on the next few days
?

I figure they are getting half the loot and completing a quest, and we are doing most of the work, so something has to give.

Or is he just generally looking to capture a precious slave to sell?

That would take IC negotiations, since there is a lot of information involved.

Here is the most up to date version of my plan.

  • [X] Propose a different plan.
-[X] "We have found that Devils can often be disturbingly clever, and giving them even the slightest opportunity frequently leads them to implementing Fiendishly dangerous plots or fleeing entirely, neither of which is in our best interest today. Rather than ceding the initiative to the Baatezu, we shall instead strike them suddenly, like a bolt of lightning, using tactics similar to those they all to often employ thanks to their natural...gifts."
--[X] "Rest assured, I see no need to renegotiate our previously agreed upon terms, even if my preferred approach minimizes the Golden Winds' role in the coming raid."
-[X] We will instead approach the Devil vessel at maximum speed. Once it is in visual range, Viserys will Teleport to within Firebrand range of the vessel, cast a Quickened, Searing, Agonizing Firebrand targeting every visible enemy, taking care to avoid directly damaging the vessel, then make a strafing pass using Maximized, Searing, Agonizing, Dispelling Fire Breath, again attempting to prevent unnecessary damage to the vessel.
--[X] Immediately after Viserys' strafing attack, Dany will Teleport (sacrificing her prepared Break Enchantment spell) herself, Richard, Rina, and two of Yrten's crew, while Tyene Teleports herself, Waymar, Yrten, and two more of his crew, all aiming for cleared areas of the deck. If she is capable and willing, it would also be helpful if Siduri could Teleport another strike team to the Devil vessel.
--[X] Meanwhile, the Golden Wind will approach, hopefully unmolested by the distracted Devil's, in order to lend the support of its crew and weapons to our attack.
    -[X] Just before the Devil vessel is to be attacked;
--[X] Tyene will cast Fickle Winds on the party, along with Yrten, Siduri, and the four members of his crew Teleporting over with herself and Dany. She also casts Mass Resist Energy (Cold) and Mass Resist Energy (Fire) on everyone (using four 2nd level spell slots). She also renews her Greater Blindsight spell.
--[X] Dany and Rina renew their Sign spells.
--[X] Waymar renews his See Invisibility and Heart of Earth spells.
--[X] Viserys renews his Heart of Earth spell, if necessary, uses Magic Army to enhance everyone's weapons, then casts Mirror Image, Scinitillating Scales, Starmantle, and Greater Blink. Just before beginning the attack, he casts Searing, Agonizing Mass Fire Shield on the party, all of Yrten's crew Teleporting over, and as many other volunteers as he can manage with a single spell, then casts Arcane Spellsurge (using two 6th level spell slots).

I dislike that we get nothing when we are doing so much more, and we could easily get things we want that won't make them feel bitter about giving up.

Such as the guaranteeing we get the ship, so they avoid, say, sabotaging the engines, and information they are much better suited to gather than us, as we want new targets to raid.

On the matter of the special slave, do they have an actual quest to complete, or just hope to free him and let him join the crew, or re-sell him or what?

Viserys' best guess is that they are probably planning to sell him with a buyer lined up, probably the same buyer that sent those other pirate ships after the devils. Less likely (though not impossible) is that they are doing a rescue to order and did not want to say so for fear of appearing weak in front of a Red Dragon.

We are getting the ship, for sure. They don't want it, or even consider it part of the loot. And if they intend to do anything but free the Couatl, we are killing them all and taking all the loot, so it hardly matters.

Agreed. @Goldfish, at the very least we should make it clear that for us doing the vast majority of the work we expect the ship mostly undamaged and in our pile of the loot.

[X] TotallyNotEvil

No haggle. The deal is done. Changing it now would be extortion....We can suggest preferred actions after the fact. We can get first dibs and be assured the Coatl goes free. I liked that approach better anyway.

Plan updated to outright claim the ship, while otherwise keeping to the agreed upon terms.

Ah, strict cultural quirks on Viserys' part on the taking of slaves. They try to take slaves, they become target :). They and their pretty ship :)
