I want to attend the elector meet because I think it would be an awesome scene with Matilda skulking in the back, in the dim lights, while prospective electors sweat and try not to look at her directly. I think I'll do an omake if I have time later.

@veekie any chance you could change expanding the watch in drakenhof to doing the satpeter with specialists from nuln ?
Boney already said there is no urgency on the former and expending Dwarf favors instead of money when it is in our best interest to do the oposite, in a way that gives the option a large penalty, while overworking wich makes failures is basicaly self sabotage not matter how I look at it, seriously literaly any other way to handle this would be better for us in the lon run.

[X] Plan Mistress of Shadows

Ranald for the watch seems a strange idea . Verena would be the traditional choice and grungi if u wanna go strange but interesting take instead.

Dont love the embezzeling actions but land grab is fine i guess but id prefer to lose the original debt papers and pay the new loan were taking to buy eic shares or the other way around - embezzle the new loans paperwork .

Drakenhof expansion doesnt seem super viable for now and there are more important thigns to do , general expansion and saltpeter farm and dwarf trainer aswell.

@Zaratustra
He is already doing a salpeter action, but with dwarves instead of Nuln (something I prefer, even if it would fit even better with going for Grungni). In fact Veekie's plan has a total of three Watch actions.

Also, wouldn't Wilhelmina notice if we take hold of the Stirland treasury? Maybe she won't mind too much, but it definitely wouldn't increase her opinion of us. Especially since the next EC might also be a Van Hal.

Ok, the embezzling seems to be more dangerous than I thought. I will abandon my plan (which doesn't have a chance anyway) for

[X] Plan Mistress of Shadows

[X] Plan Protector Of Stirland

I think I've been won over to this by all the debate. Seems kind of crazy, but why not? Most crime happens hidden in the shadows. Who better to watch over those who ferret it out than Ranald? And you'll never get a better detective than a Ranald-ite, as Mathilde has demonstrated many, many times since taking the job.

What was it Van Hal said? Mathilde lacks confidence? Well, I have no confidence in this whatsoever, but I'm willing to see the consequences right through to the end, and that's basically the same thing when you get right down to it.

(But mostly I just want to expand the Watch to Drakenhof ASAP, and this is the closest bandwagon I can jump on. Three cheers for single-issue voters!)

Even if Ranald wasn't looked down upon and risky, he still doesn't feel right for a competent police force, which is what the Watch should eventually become. Leaving the catching of criminals up to chance and to which side winning the cops and robbers game Ranald finds more popcorn-worthy isn't the way to go.

Though I guess it would be a cool thing to read about in a hypothetical Stirland guidebook in which this game is canon. "Stirland Watch is known throughout the Empire for its oddity of worshipping the same god as the thieves they supposedly hunt. No one knows how much is true law enforcement and how much is a protracted game of cops and robbers with the goal of keeping everyone's skills sharp for when vampires, chaos worshipers and other dangerous outsiders try to muscle in to the domain of the Thieve's Guild. In fact there are rumors that both organizations are actually lead by one single individual, or maybe by a group of people that regularly meet for a game of dice."

...Damn. Okay. That does sound like a fun legacy. I'd still prefer something different but I will now be much less salty if Veekie's plan wins.

Yes he is and that is the entire problem.
See first there is how he is doing two watch actions personaly, wich means they will have the penalty, them he made the satpeter overwork wich if anythin goes wrong will go realy wrong thus maximizing the chance something is oing to low in our face.
Coumponding that he used our personal favor instead of money when doesn't replenish and it was outright stated to be better for us to send as much as possible this turn, and I sti don't know why the rush to send the watch to drakenhof they will keep for six months, so ultimately if he did the change I proposed the result would be less cost, more chance of it working, less problem if it doesnt work and more benefits for us in the long run, that is why I said is basicaly self sabotage.

And Wilhelmina woudn't care, she was loyal to him personaly not his house, wich is why she makes no plans of staying even if one of his kids get the title.

Even if you don't care much about your former job anymore, having someone you thought nice and trustworthy steal a bunch of money from the government you worked for can still lower your oppinion of said thief.

Dwarves cost a personal favor but they are also simply superior. We might well end up with salpeter second in the empire only to that personally produced under Gold Order supervision. The Watch could come to the point where it enriches Stirland and where guns become a common thing through all military and police ranks before they do so anywhere else in human lands.

The religion penalty may be mitigated by the first Watch action. Or it may not. We'll have to see.

But I agree with the overwork being risky.

That was Markus. Van Hal has three children.

I'll leave the vote open a little longer to see if a firmer consensus will develop. The current leading candidate has only a third of the total votes.

  • [X] Plan Protector Of Stirland
-[X][Intel] Special Branch: Pull some financial trickery to get the information network classified as part of the Watch, so that their costs are covered by the Stirlandian treasury.
-[X][Watch] Expand the Watch into a new county or barony (choose which) (No Budgetary Impact due to expanded Gong Farming)
    --[X] Drakenhof
-[X][Free] Abelhelm left you with a list of notarized names. Pass them on to your Master and let the fireworks fly. (does not take an action)
-[X][Personal] As above, but insist on being a part of whatever happens.
-[X][Free] It may be a moot point, but you can still send off the entirety of information gathered on undead types in Sylvania to your string-pullers. (does not take an action)
-[X][Free] Buy out half of Markus' shares in the EIC. (does not take an action; increases your debt to Stirland)
-[X][Personal] Financial Jargon: Everything with the EIC flew right over your head last time. Try again. Succeeding here will mean that you can take a more active hand in the company, adding it to the organizational actions; failing or not attempting means Mathilde will remain a silent partner.
-[X][Personal] Practice, Practice, Practice: Having been thrown into the deep end of imperial politics, it would probably be a good idea to brush up on your skills and internalize the lessons you've learned (choose which trait; can be taken multiple times; will be more effective if you've used the trait a lot lately).

I'd still like @veekie to switch the dwarven Saltpeter for Nulnian, which is effectively zero cost. If we lose the Watch, or Spymistress, there is no personal gain.

I don't see why whoever becomes the new EC wouldn't hire us as long as we are willing actually.
Even if that person had intense reasons to distrust us or dislike us (being a wizard is risky business), the public outcry probably wouldn't be worth it.

Eh, the only people who'd even hear of it inside a year are either nobles, or live in Wurtbad. The nobles would be happy to see us go, no more kidnapping-overthrows in the night. Non-EIC merchants too. The common people don't really matter in a late feudal system, unless they're willing to man the barricades. Plus, we're outing ourselves as a Randalite this turn, ready made excuse and a solid reason to get rid of us, from many reasonable ruling noble points of view.
