That's down to opportunity cost, not just coins. Could we research stuff about luck magic and the like? Sure... but when are we going to find time for it? You're going to have to literally fight Goldfish, Duesal, Azel, TNE, Artemis, Diomedon, me for a timeslot for it, when we all want to research something different.

Good luck.

The second highest vote only comes out to ~5000 IM. Honestly, I just want the Ceru. DP had just said that the ability to manipulate luck is exceedingly rare, and the opportunity to study/research it seems beyond worth the 2k cost.
Yeah. No. We will just get a reminder that we have totally forgotten about them when they complain about their living conditions in half a year.

And now that we have seen a Ceru, we can always produce one for research purposes with Polymorph any Object, sure we don't have that spell yet, but once we do, well a single casting would last weeks on a dragonpen(I'm using a dragonpen here, due to my rule about not giving non-sapients non-permanent sapience) Ceru's are too different from anything we have to be permanently made with Polymorph, but if we just want to study them, it should be enough to Polymorph someone into one for a few weeks.

The thing is, just like Azel said, we just have too many projects, too many deadlines to meet, too many plates up in the air to get even more timesinks into our schedule.
Doing business ventures, investing into stuff or building up infrastructure? All of that is fine and will bear profit in reasonable (both IRL and in-quest) periods of time.
But vanity projects, all the "Shiny!"-es we get so often? We can't even search through our library for fuck's sake, we have a pile of magical books unread by anyone.
And that's marginally useful shinies.

Polymorph does not give the Supernatural, Extraordinary or Spell-like abilities of the creature you are polymorphing it into.

It can gain extraordinary special qualities, but those are intrinsic to the shape of the creature, not the magic the originals possess.

Starting increasingly to look like a time and money sink. We have what feels like hundreds of study actions in the backlog. We still don't even know how to harvest our memory moss properly. We have stuff from the Bazaar of Beggars we haven't studied yet, bought on the first visit.

Not really interested in blowing 8000 IM on stuff that will sit in our shelves for a year.
A pair of Cerus should triple our item identification speed.

Might as well get a horse to breed hellaciously and a pair of ankkheg because they are cheap.

Even if it takes some time for Lya to find some free time for it, why is that an issue? Should we just not bother with anything that might take time, simply because we've much to do? Chance is one of the most intrinsic parts of D&D, so why assume Lya will not learn some neat stuff by studying the Ceru? Time management is just that, time management.

If our time is apparently so precious that we can't even take the time to try and figure out a way to manipulate the most integral parts of D&D mechanics, then I have to ask, why did we waste time on this in the first place?

Look at the frontpage under Bloodstone Keep -> Library.

The only magical lore among these things we ever fully studied are Kajs notes. Everything else has been sitting there for literally years.

The mysterious shiny is worthless, since we will never get around to getting anything out of it.

If TNE's right on this, then it makes it even more pertinent.

Apples and oranges. The reason we haven't bothered, is because we haven't much of a clue what we'd get, and the few we do have a clue about are unlikely to be of much use. Now, can you say the same for the ability to manipulate luck? This is D&D, the damn mechanics run on chance, and rolls are important, integral.

I don't much mind the aspect for unlocking research, tho it's a neat bonus and such things should get easier as more Mage underlings level up.

What I really want is for Maelor to get to roll thrice and pick the highest whenever he tries to identify something.

Um, are you guys actually turning down a creature with a "roll twice, choose which one you want to take" on any roll? As in double chance of crits and basically removes botches?
Once per day and we would have to constantly take one with us.

And other then Identify rolls? I could be convinced if it would instead be used for Lyas study rolls, since I value said knowledge a lot more then identifying.

We are only buying 2 for now,.but one day we'll have 20 of the little things, and we will have a room where they Will all have cushions overseeing our ritual chambers, and everything we do Will be perfect forever.

If you fuck with reality too much, too vigorously, Inevitiables start poking their heads in and giving sullen glares.

Then again, knowing this crowd...

I doubt Inevitables are gonna care much for Ceru messing about with luck, not unless we try to pile a few thousand together and break reality altogether. On that thought, what's the loot table on Inevitables?

Loot table

1: No.
2-24: ...yes?
25-49: Yes.
50-74: Yes.
75-89: Yes!
