I thought Pentos was after Westeros? Don't think we'll have time for it before Robert dies.

I've been gravitating towards the "Targeryean Empire" name lately.

Edit: in the end, its the one unifying factor for a multi species, multi continent, multi planar polity. They're governed by us.

Eh, Pentos is right next to the Three Daughters and right across the sea from Westeros. It only makes sense to take that city before retaking the Seven Kingdoms. I'm sure the Braavosi would enthusiastically support that invasion. :p We might get flocks of bravos trying to join our navy.

Pentos completes the defensive line for the inevitable backstab from the East during the Westeros dust up, and secures complete control of the Narrow Sea for our invasion of Westeros (at least from the Essosi side). Also, the sooner we move against it after it becomes clear we're not stopping at Tyrosh, the weaker it's defenses.

Poor Pentos, its geopolitical outlook will be so grim by that point the place is likely to erupt into civil war, with factions forming up to decide what to do, either whore themselves (somehow) to Volantis, run with their tails tucked in to Braavos and end slavery for real, or beg Robert for help. One faction could even form to willingly give us the city (with them on top of course).

Edit: that reminds me, we need to contact the Tattered Prince this year.

Taking Pentos just seems sound in general. It secures the western coast in entirety, since we can be assured of allies in Braavos and possibly Lorath, who are also anti-slavery.

In fact, taking the Three Daughters and Pentos basically assures that aggression will probably come from Volantis, who will see us as less of a "foreign curiosity who we unfortunately can't dismiss out of hand because he's a goddamned Dragonlord" to "existential threat that must be stopped at all cost".

By then I would love to have those magitec submarines up and running. Flying ships, too, just for good measure.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I pity the Pentoshi.

There's the Black Goat and his cultists doing god-knows-what in Qohor, conquest-hungry Volantis marching up the Rhoyne, Braavos to the North, Westeros across the sea, and Viserys Targaryen taking Free Cities like candy.

I'm actually half-afraid they might try to surrender preemptively and rob us of our excuse to get rid of the worst of their nobility.

I understand taking Pentos is a no brainer, believe me, its just I think we'll be flooded with headaches assimilating Myr and Lys and then suddenly Robert will die and Westeros will implode, forcing us to move.

Volantis getting cocky then... well, its another reason to build that Nautilius the thread's been talking about lately. With standoff strategic weapons. Off the cost of Volantis.

Edit: Just passing...

...actually, how could we build something resembling a cruise missile with magic? Some long range striking power not dependent on PCs would be useful. (I admit useful was not my primary concern, but imagine one of our submarines firing a volley of them at a pirate fort or a Volantene column...

Drools.

Edit: Could we line the sub's inner hull with lead? Make it divination proof and "the silent service" takes on a whole new meaning...

Though I will really be pissed off if after all that hype about Robert dying so we can start our conquering campaign and then due to a single dice roll he manages to survive his scripted death or something.

That's enough to open a direct gate towards the Quasi-Elemental Plane of Salt and summon Elder Salt Elementals.

The Gate will open as an expeditionary force from the Glorious Sodium Hegemony will comes to Planetos to investigate where all the salt, the very bedrock of their existence, keeps disappearing to.

That is the worst case timing for us. We can stop after Tyrosh and turn west and it'll leave us vulnerable but not completely untenable. All four settled down leaves us ready for the backstab from the east, and at our strongest. In the middle of that campaign would be the worst. We should probably ask Yss if Robert dies this year. It wont be 100% reliable, but a Yes answer requires very different planning.

We can always accidentally conquer pentos when go for Illyrio

"How do you... accidentally conquer an entire Free City?!"

"My state of being is perpetually one of conquest. Like right now! I hereby do claim this plate of pastries in the name of House Targaryen!"

"No you don't! Those are for the Queen Mother!"

"I'm sure she'll underst--Mother, you said?"

"VISERYS! Explain what your sister just told me!"

"I must go. My people need me."

"These are your people! He's gone! Why do I work for him?!"

Does anyone remember if DP has said our portal to Molten Skies can be moved?

And if so, what about to other Planes?

The thing is only active for a few days every month. Wouldn't it be safe to move, at least in its inert state?

That would be my hope.

The thing is of little use to us now, but it could be quite valuable to the Shaitan. It's obviously limited in some ways, but it's more subtle than a Gate spell and doesn't require spellcasting provided by a very high level caster. It would allow the Shaitan to secretly move a large number of troops to a position quite close to the City of Brass, and the cave network the portal connects to could serve as a beachhead and staging ground for an invasion or as a secret base to strike from.

I get the frustration but Viserys was never supposed to be a magical Swiss Army Knife. His keyword is meant to be overwhelming power not flexibility, whether that is conjuring flames that can burn creatures of fire, or convincing even the most obstinate listener through sheer preternatural charisma.

1 point sounds about right for Blood Wish.

His speciality is the worst one and it stops working right around this level. Blasting at LVL 15 doesn't seem to work unless you're doing nothing else at all and don't mind the binary state of useless/everyone else is useless ala Mailman builds.

There's more than one reason we've used Baleful Polymorph ever since we got it.
When was the last time we used Firebrand without "because the neg to saves and possible prone can really help our actual non-hp dependant strategy"?

The 1 point of damage would be nice if it lasted rounds or something like some spells, still guts us mid battle but we can get creative in the morning without being a cripple by evening and we still obviously have to spend the slots etc.

1 Gorgon that Vee named "Irony"

DP says Glyra, I choose to believe it was a joint effort. How can one person achieve such art?

Maybe make it into an action? After all we have some days for PoA schedule somewhere, we can make it into a diplomatic venture with an in already stablished.

Brilliant. Put it on the schedule and it will naturally never happen.

Thanks Crake

@DragonParadox

I can't speak for anyone else obviously, but a big part of the reason I'm so salty and protectionist about the location of our plane is that we haven't even hit canon yet.

If we get inundated with every planar dipstick that wants to joyride across Planetos I see it as the final nail in the coffin of the ASoIaF portion of this ASoIaF/DnD quest.

We may as well have just begun the quest with "You meet in a tavern."

There were restrictions mentioned when we got it, from that point in the quest and the options that would have been available to us then I assume it was that we could not TP and/or store it in an extra-dimensional space.

Planar Travel is probably not gonna fly regardless of which it was.

EDIT: I'm actually curious about that. Why was there a time limit on the sapling anyway? I'm gonna go back and see if I can find anything.

I got it first!

You do not have the weirwood sapling, that is in Bravos however you do have the dryad tree seed.

It was planted in Braavos and grew there. It's gone beyond the stage of being safely uprooted.

I, The Anglerfish, strikes again! Ahahahaha!
