Or if their power is not absolute and intrinsic and other factors constrain them.
The Sultan is literally a Demigod on the way to godhood, if I remember correctly?

Has he never tried a personal raid on the Opaline Vault?
Have neither of both sides actually taken risks in an attempt to finish the war rather than prolong it?
Especially after the Sultana explicitly promised to make it a war to the knife rather than anything less than that.

I could kinda understand long-running feuds between, for example, a Demon Lord and Archduke of Hell.
If they can't leave their planes without being summoned and their servants don't get past the first layers of Abyss/Hell it makes some sense, but for most other enemies that doesn't really apply.

It could be that those involved wish to crush their enemies, but themselves worry they might lose. Fear of death could be especially crippling to an immortal being, I imagine.

Now I'm wondering if there are no proper adventurers running around.
Aberi's group was the heaviest we've seen, and they are not exactly heavy hitters...

Maybe the Material produces a higher quality and quantity of PCs to make up for its lack of naturally powerful inhabitants besides dragons?

Really wish Lya was here for a Life Bubble spell. Ya'll think it's worth having Dany Dreamcast it?

[X] Viserys immediately uses his earring to gain True Seeing as a Swift Action, then says, "My companions and I have agreed to escort our new friends to their home. Although we have no quarrel with you, we will act in defense of ourselves and our allies. Take this opportunity for the gift it is and leave this place, else face destruction."
-[X] The party will begin preparing as follows, casting their spells in the order listed:
--[X] Malarys prepares as he sees fit (maybe Divine Power and Channel Vigor?).
--[X] Glyra casts Expeditious Retreat and prepares to use her Swift Invisibility SLA.
--[X] Maelor targets Viserys with a Nerveskitter spell, then casts Child of the Dark.
--[X] Tyene casts Invisibility, Blindsight, Entropic Shield, and Divine Favor on herself.
--[X] Richard uses him amulet to gain 12 Temp HP and his earring to gain True Seeing.
--[X] Waymar casts See Invisibility, then places Resist Energy(Acid) and Resist Energy(Electricity) on himself.
--[X] Dany casts True Seeing, Chained Resist Energy(Fire), Blessed Aim, Sign, then places Greater Magic Fang on herself.
--[X] Viserys casts Freezing Glance, Mirror Image, Shield, then place Searing Agonizing Mass Fire Shield and Quickened Haste spell on everyone.

So our diplomatic overtures consist of offering him to bugger off or be chopped up for parts? Seems like a bit much to offer in the first round of bargaining, but eh...

I totally get where Beepsmile's plan is coming from, but we have eight party members here now, ya'll. Do you not think DP might have scaled this encounter appropriately? They can ALL be casting spells in preparation, not just Viserys.

Better bargain than the Devil who had the choice between cooperating and getting slightly chopped up, or not and getting completly chopped up.

But seriously, we have already learned not to negotiate with evil fogs on our last visit to Lys.

I'm still disappointed with that bargain. I was hoping the devil would be too proud and refuse the deal and then we'd be given free reign to harvest everything and save the rest for Yss. :(

Could you inject a line talking to it here, after the Swift action to get True Sight?
We could use a round or two before the attack, so everyone else can buff in peace.
Even if it delays our own buffs.

But then we wouldn't have given it to the OGs who made the amulet secure.

Can't really answer that because it would be a spoiler.
Sounds like "Yes" to me, since you wouldn't have to be evasive if the thing wouldn't carry a rather distinctive weapon or other equipment.
My money is on a Devil or Efreeti Noble.

@Goldfish, could you at least add BeepSmiles attempt at diplomacy? We don't get nearly enough one-liners.

"And I offer you to stand aside, lapdog, or I will pry the name of the one holding your leash out of your severed skull."

Well, I kinda left that up to the chars IC, basically, I'm thinking that any more than a quick true seeing might set it off before we half-ass the diplo, and after that, it's combat. Which depends on what's coming.

Also, this could be an attempt to get us to drain spells via illusions.

I second this. The fog looks like a diversion.

I'm expecting a attack from the pools to our side, the tunnel walls or the rear. They will target the arc, probably with AoE spells.

It annoys me that the amulet is so shitty, a bit. But eh. Fiend shit.

Editing vote to incude:

[] Expect ambush, ready action to cast Resilent sphere (or clerity + sphere) if the tunnels collapse/crush in.
