I thought I had mentioned it before, but a quick search of the thread didn't find it anywhere. Oops?

No. We've been planning the Festival for months.

[X] Azel
We're not getting rid of it, we're letting smaller festivities start in the meantime and pushing the main event back by a few days. DP even went so far as to confirm that nobody would be truly upset by this.

We are not letting an opportunity like the one staring us in the face slip right through our fingers. We're going to go to the Opaline Vault.

We get the festival anyway. All we're doing here is making it a bit longer, give it some buildup. It'll cost us some money, but the payoff of an in with the Opaline Vault and possibly even a Family of Import among them is too good to pass up for keeping exactly to timetable. We'll ruffle a few feathers, but nothing serious. We're a sorcerer-king, after all. Mysterious changes to scheduling is expected at this point :V

I wonder if the bodies of the Forgefiends would be predisposed to more easily turn them into Constructs, possibly even Golems?

Out of idle curiosity, @Diomedon what's the current loadout for our naval troops?

We've not established a formal marines. Viserys isn't a naval expert (as shown as his short stint pretending to be a "captain") and most sailors in this era did double duty. I'm not sure meddling by establishing a formal marine would actually provide a benefit at this point. I was waiting to see how much iron we'd have coming in in the hope to make a prototype ironclad powered via construct, where marines would be much more valuable (not needing to row or deal with sails lets many sailors primary duty to be boarders), but we're not getting that much iron.

Likely just make boarding axes, boarding pikes, and breastplates built with the quick-escape property with some of our reserve. We can recycle steel as well, so once our everfire steel starts proving itself, we can get captains to trade in their crew's existing weapons for their weight in brand new razor sharp mwk weapons. A new spin on new for old.

If we use Hardening on the wood that goes into creating a vessel, at the very least it would become just as hard as iron or steel.

Yeah, like hell we're giving this up.

Indeed. We already have goodwill, and an in with at least one Family (capital is intended) among the Vault. If we act as an additional escort for the ark and get it home safe, there's the possibility for more still. To compare with our relationships in MS, it's like getting an invite into the City of Brass on our way there. Except I trust a LN civilisation far more than a LE one where it comes to actually getting a worthwhile reward :mad:

The biggest thing for me is that by going with them--and only by going with them--we get to completely avoid tough questions about where we're from.

One small thing I want to add, historically speaking the risk of drowning due to heavy armor was considered much less of a problem then you might expect and contemporary illustrations of medieval and early modern naval battles show the majority of the fighters wearing armor.

@Diomedon, due to being locked into sporadic internet access, I've been planning a few things.

How about a magitek submarine with hypersonic, kinetic weaponry?

BTW, if anyone is interested, here is some barebones info on the Opaline Vault.

Highlights;

Occupies the inner surface of a geode that is 30 miles in diameter.

Population of 6,000,000.

Lawful Neutral alignment.

And the ruling Sultana really, really hates the Efreet.
The Sultana Ashadieeyah bint Khalid is the ruler of the shaitan genies. She lives in the Opaline Vault of the Elemental Plane of Earth. She has golden skin. The mining and mercantile interests in the Opaline Vault are efficiently managed by the Sultana; each craft guild's pasha serves her.[1]

She has ruled the shaitans for 500 years, since her father was killed by efreet from the Plane of Fire. Under her rule, the shaitan have prospered, and have developed trade routes to the Plane of Water. However, her abiding goal is the destruction of the efreet. All of the shaitans' wealth is spent making weapons and hiring mercenaries for war on the efreet, and her foreign policy centres around gaining allies in the conflict—from mercenary jann to fire mephits.

It is whispered that she needs to win the war soon, otherwise shaitan society will collapse under the strain of the war effort.

I proposed one of those weeks ago, though mine wasn't armed with hypersonic kinetic weaponry.

It would have mostly beaten the shit out of enemies due to it being a Colossal-sized Construct with a +35 attack bonus.

But think of the shinies if we get attacked on our way there and prove ourselves consistently! Think of the shinies!
Encounters in the PoE have been pretty great. Maybe if we're lucky we'll be able to capture yet another sacrifice. Fingers crossed for that flesh-warper.

Finally! A submarine! :D

@Azel, suggestion for the submarine:

Permanancied Cerulean Sign.

... This war could be insanely lucrative.
