[X] Tell it to him straight. Maybe leave out that bit with the wall sconce though.

I don't have any real goal in guiding his thoughts, so why not.

[X] Plan Heretek
[X] The disappearance of your predecessor is very concerning, he must be found.
[X] There is a risk of enemy agents infiltrating the castle staff - they must be watched.
[X] There was an incident with a... something. You killed it, but there may be more. The castle should be searched from top to bottom.
[X] A dozen centuries of tax ledgers and records don't just vanish. They need to be found.

These all seem rather important.

Oh god lol, we're a spymaster who's taking her knowledge from lewd novels.

[X] [Report] Stick with the facts, but highlight that Wilhelmina's work in getting back the former workers and funneling them to you was a big help in your task.

Basically the top priority is the missing financial records, HOW they went missing and the gribbly.
But especially the gribbly.

[x] Hand him a brief report on his advisers and how/why they were appointed. 'Eyes Only for yourself if it please milord'
-[x] Including your own situation. This does present an option to use this for disinformation.
[x] Your predecessor spent all of his time and effort dealing with political opposition to his Stirland League moneymaking scheme.
He made no effort that you can find to set up any watch for hidden vampires or chaos cults.

[x] Options
[] Set up a watcher network for vamps and/or chaos loonies. Budget item - ongoing.
[] Get watchers into Sylvania or at least on the borders. Budget item - ongoing.
[] Focused investigation into the missing ledgers.
[] Focused investigation into the odd cannibal thing you killed in the servant area. Troops item - will need soldiers to direct in full search of the castle.

I see no reason not to turn the planned blackmail of us into an asset immediately.
Also - our job is to present options - lets present them to Da Boss and let him choose (with of course our guidance).

Is there an option to follow up with the stablehand we had imprisoned, for giving false information intentionally and presumably on someone else's orders? As he is a ready source of information, both on what he knows, how he was recruited, how he's given tasks or told to act ect. Or is that under this?

[] There is a risk of enemy agents infiltrating the castle staff - they must be watched.

Secondly we also imprisoned that thing we fought in jail. Can't really let that just be either.

There'll be options to follow up with both next turn. If your assignment is to deal with enemy infiltration, then interrogating him would count as working towards that goal. If your assignment is to deal with the possible undead beasties in the castle, then doing an autopsy on the corpse would count towards that.

If we give our Elector Count (too) many options, is he liable to pick several of them with his own actions and thus impose extra work on us?

Secondly we also imprisoned that thing we fought in jail. Can't really let that just be either.

So you stand your ground, allowing the creature to approach, and as cracked nails scrabble for purchase against the shadows covering you, you stab it in the face.

Stabby in face is usually deady. If not we need PANIC STATIONS.

[:V] Van Hal should become the new Steward
- [:V] We know he's good with numbers because he's a Count

For real though, we should probably think about getting a new place to live somewhere soon. The sooner we do, the sooner we get the bonuses from our new living place.

Should we tell him about the whole someone wants us to be a double agent thing?
Considering almost every one of his advisors is a double agent it probably wouldn't be wise and besides as long as he doesn't do anything bad say like be a chaos worshipper or steal funds from the empire he should be fine it's just everyone wants a close eye on him

No, but it will mean you've got much less control over what he decides to do.
OTOH, that loss of control is still just for one thing, which we should be able to cover with one or two of our own actions. So I'm thinking we give the boss one Big Obvious option and some Look Busy options, but it wouldn't hurt that much if we just list everything. Instead of "what should we list", I'd ask what shouldn't we list that we really don't want the boss ordering us to do.

Anyway, enough speculation, lemme get around to a vote.

[X] [Report] Stick to the facts of our accomplishments, praise Wilhelmina, mention the Stirlandian League.

-[X] The disappearance of your predecessor is very concerning, he must be found.
-[X] I need a proper information network. Please fund me wandering around making friends.

Reasoning: The first option has obvious attraction to the man-of-action side of our boss, (the monster is the bait here,) the second is reasonably important too, the third looks appropriately spymaster-y and might get us useful information on other things we find in the search even if our predecessor stays gone, the fourth is spymaster-y and might get us more money. This also offers the boss a mix of solving problems with violence, information, and money so he probably won't write in since we seem to have various bases covered.

Mentioning the Stirlandian League is very important as trade is presumably one of the primary revenue sources for a province, and unless the former spymaster is dead, it's currently without it's leader. So even if we don't go for it ourselves, it would be worthwhile to mention it so the stewardship advisor knows. We should try not to let infrastructure that's been developed fall apart after all, and if the spymaster is still in charge, it would obviously be good to know.

To those voting to report everything straight, does this include the knowledge of your fellow councillors you got from your Master? Or just the actions you took pursuing your assigned task?

Mine goes a bit further than the report straight, but does include it so yes.
Everything we have (summarized - this boss does not want screeds).

In my mind just the actions we took

Revealing everyone's real position will anger some of the most powerful organizations in the empire something we don't want and something that will bite us in the ass later on if we do reveal them

Or the ya know Witch Hunter who tend to be good at investigation or his buddies find out we been deceiving him.
That is gonna be just a little bit worse than ass-biting.
It probably won't be a Bad End, I figure he will want to turn us, but not a good situation.
This is why I argued for honesty from the start.

Elector Count Quest AU Part 2

Uncertain Loyalties - an Advisors Quest
I hope you guys enjoy the Mage-Tolerant Witch Hunter Indiana MacGyver-Jones you've spent so many shinies on, because I'm calling in your debts, with the critglitches starting right now.

Martial:
[x] Commander Stentz
Stentz is a man of both military and social skills, and his experience in a mercenary company suggests that he's more than just a time-server like some regulars. His
--IMPERIAL INTERRUPT--
[X] Professor Verezzo will be your new marshal, by Imperial arrangement.
Professor Verezzo may not be fired for 5 years (10 turns).

Diplomacy:
[x] Anton II Kiesinger
You've settled on continuity of office for the chancellor, both for information and to keep the local nobles happy. (Diplomacy 12 revealed, traits on index page.)

Stewardship:
[x] Frau Wilhelmina
Happily, it turns out Wilhelmina has managed logistics for Witch Hunters before! She's reasonably skilled at both supply and strategy, as well as favorably inclined to you by default. (Stewardship 11, Martial 14 revealed, traits on index page.)

Intrigue:
[x] Delay Intrigue appointment
Between a mage, a foreigner, and a set of mysterious notes, you've firmly resolved to get some more sensible candidates in. It can't be too urgent, you are a professional Witch Hunter after all. You have significant experience with gribblies trying to shank you in your sleep, you can handle a few months more while you actually read up on
--MYSTERIOUS INTERRUPT--
[X] Journeywoman Weber will be your new spymaster. You don't know who's arranged this, but there's a very short list of suspects that can arrange for wizards to be sent about like this.
Journeywoman Weber may not be fired for 5 years (10 turns).

Faith:
[x] Brother Kasmir
A hard man, a devout man, Kasmir seems like just what you need to be your strong right hand in your efforts pacifying Sylvania and getting the other priests in line behind you for this endeavor.
--THEOGONIST INTER...rupt?
Oh. You picked the candidate they were going to assign to you anyway. Here I was expecting you to pick the Morrite. Anyway, the Grand Theogonist set this as a condition to support you as Elector Count. (Faith 16 revealed, traits on index page.)
Brother Kasmir may not be fired for 5 years (10 turns).

Learning:
[x] Delay Learning appointment
The presented candidates were insatisfactory for various reasons. You've decided to look for someone more suitably unique matching your ambitions
--TALABECLAND INTERRUPT--
[X] Herr Schultz will be your new loremaster, arranged by Talabecland in exchange for supporting you as Elector Count.
Herr Schultz may not be fired for 5 years (10 turns).

ahahaha enjoy starting your turn with half your advisors still unknown and four of them placed here by political horsetrading

that counts as one critglitch's worth of paying off your debt of shinies

I called it. I totally called it.
You called nothing. The thread title is literally "uncertain loyalties", you don't get credit for saying several of the candidates are here at the behest of outside backers.
That "very short list of suspects" for mage assignment is basically the Emperor and the Patriarch of the Grey Order, right?
Our Steward has Martial 14, while our Marshal is somewhere in the 8 to 13 range? Great. Just great. We're going to have council infighting and position envy all day here.
Hey, look on the bright side. Of the ones we did get to pick, we managed to not pick the Lustful Steward. So at least we won't have love triangles and relationship drama on top of a mostly-disloyal, irremovable council.
MoneyB said:
Just because they're externally appointed doesn't make them disloyal.
Yay, shadowmage spymaster! Dis gun b gud.
What is "MacGyver-Jones" a reference to?
I don't mind the result itself here, but I would like to complain about the mechanical implementation. MoneyB, next time you do something like this, do you think you could state up front that the critglitch is going to annul four of our votes and just ask us for the other two? Because it seems like quite a bit of wasted effort discussing and planning what to do on four positions where we didn't really have a choice.
QM, I don't think you answered my question last update. Is "Young" a negative trait with stat penalties that wear off as Anton gets more experience? Or is it more of a social descriptor that other people will treat him with less respect?

I have not been looking at the QM's notes, at least not in this dimension. All traits and values are figments of my imagination.
