Sure, he she used Dhar directly (which is the only thing she can do now), but she has the theoretical framework to use Ulgu to pull off a Dhar dispel, At least that is my impression

@BoneyM can you clarify? Can Mathilde use the Second Secret without getting into the mindset to channel Dhar? If not can she atain this skill.

The mindset to channel Dhar takes you to a dark place. But so does the mindset to channel Shyish. The mindset to channel Aqshy gives you temper problems. The mindset to channel Ulgu gives you a flexible view of the truth and a hazy grasp of boundaries.

If Mathilde spends all her time channelling Dhar for a week, that'll put her in a messed-up headspace, just like if you spent a week researching serial killers or something. The Colleges teach Wizards how to ground their sense of self in companionship and small joys, the same way they teach them to ground rogue magic in copper and iron.

Good to know but not precisely what I was asking, sorry for being unclear My question was if she could learn the trick of unbraiding Dhar with Ulgu so she would not even have to go there?

Well, at least the sensible Colleges do. The Celestial and Light Orders probably teach them to ground it in duty or faith or something like that.

Freddy Van Hal went slowly crazy because, unlike garden-variety necromancers, he didn't slip up when using shysh to wield dhar, and obviously didn't wield it directly (because he was using shysh).

He essentially suffered from radiation poisoning, except the radiation in question is made of congealed evil.

This, of course isn't an endorsement of the use of necromancy. Because I apparently have to attach such a disclaimer any time when talking about anything dhar related at all.

Ah, thought that's what the Ulricans were doing.
Probably more of a long-term project, given that they most likely don't have any resources to capitalize on clearing out the dragon ogres. At the moment the dragon ogres are at the sweet spot between strong enough to keep others out but weak enough to be killed relatively easily, so they're probably better off being left alone for now.

So the Grand Theogonist practised Dark Magic?
Well, he is a Grand Theogonist.

It's hellishly difficult, but so many other things and people accomplish them on a regular basis in the setting. Caseinpoint, we have a spell category called "Fiendishly Complicated."

With suitable traits and stupidly inflated Piety/Learning score, lots of stuff becomes possible.

/speculations

I was not arguing that he no longer finds it disgusting, just that it was no longer reflexive hatred. Think of Dhar as radiation, if you have no protection pathological fear and hatred make sense, if you have a radiation suit you can approach it in a more objective manner. Dhar is not going to melt Mathilde's brains into insane mutations which leads to a willingness to study it greater than other mages.
True. It is now a well-informed hatred. (It's ugly, it's annoying, and it has a tendency to ruin the countryside which was, until then, providing a nice zombie-free view.)

Like Very Good Boys* and nerding out. And, possibly, messing with journeymanlings' heads.

*After all, there is no more absolute a truth than Wolf being a Good Boy. I hesitate to say Best Puppy, as he has to compete with Anton for that title. But even there, there's no clear winner.

If we're talking about the Grand Theogonist that fought Vlad he died didn't he? He basically Sarumaned himself and Vlad at the same time.
