You know this is kinda strange to me, Paranoth is like the only wizard that has this kind of appelation be normally used by everyone. Mathilde's got some titles, but none of them seem to be used uniformly by everyone. So sad, i wish for this kind of clout.
So Cython or the WE?
Presumably.

Then there's the more exotic options. The We [...]

And then there's Cython. [...]

Honestly, I don't see why Cython would ever take the library and leave when staying right there means he gets to perpetually expand and guard his board with a dwarfhold's payroll.

You know depending on how many We are needed to run the Library then as the Head Librarian Mathilde, at least on paper, can say that she has command of a small army of giant spiders. Sure it technically won't be accurate but it's still funny.

actually how is the silk thing going? when do we get our sheets i mean?

She'll get them when she gets them.

So Cython or the WE?

That would be someONE exotic. I said something, as in the thing being instilled.

@Boney I assume Cython doesn't have Dramatis Personae entry for the same reason Kragg doesn't, right?

The scope of the quest has increased massively since Stirland, and time and effort spent maintaining the Dramatis Personae page is time and effort not spent on actual updates.

Only reason i would see Cython leaving is if there was something threatening the Karak itself, that might actually pose a threat to Cython as well.
They are not going to stay and risk their life when they can just pick up and move instead.

But whatever that something is, would probably make the library go poof any way, so might as well have Cython grab the books instead of see them destroyed.

Okay some quick things about the arcane battle altars
  1. The spells they cast aren't standard Battle Magic, they seem stupidly more powerful than that. The Celestial Hurricanum's spell, Storm of Shemtek, summons a hurricane, drops man sized hail, or massive meteors.
  2. They each use a Orb of Sorcery, which means;
  3. Only a Patriarch can sanction their use.
For the Gold Order, the "Goldship of Chamon". Think of a Steam Tank but shaped like a ship. So what Marienburg have. The Battle Magic casted is Working of Living Metal. As this spell is cast, all metal around the Goldship gains life, writhing as if flesh. The armour of allies mends itself, and blades reform themselves to be sharper. By contrast, the enemy is attacked by their own armour and weapons, as they attempt to suffocate them, flowing into orifices. Those consumed become like metallic golems, blindly striking down their former allies.

Jade Order, I'm tempted to say it's actually a tree. Or maybe a green house on wheels. It's spell causes massive life growth, causing full forests to grow from nothing in a matter of moments. Said forests then beat the crap out of enemies.

The Amber Order's is pulled by bears/gryphons/whatever mad beast they can find.

Bright Order. Have you seen Ghost Rider? That, but it's a cart. The bound spell calls down fire from the sun itself, appearing a massive pillar of fire that annihilates everything.

The Grey Order's cart just... looks like cart. It's magic can hide an entire army from view, or summon a fog that is impossible to escape from.

The Amethyst Order's cart is probably similar to a Vampire's Black Coach, including the body of a powerful Amethyst Wizard. The bound spell is "Hand of Morr". It's similar to "Spirit Leach," but instead of slowly draining a single target the wizard can just wave their hands and whole groups turn to dust.

This is all I have, it kinda slipped away from me

Still 20 pages behind. Commenting as I go.

It's going to be a process of several days to let them gradually accrete, Mathilde isn't going to just Chaos Dunk eight power stones into a kiddie pool full of Vitae.
Hmm. If it's a days long process that seems like it might solve one of the two issues Mathilde mentions with studying the phenomenon. Even if each individual event is over in a fraction of a second they'll be happening continuously for days.
How do you derive useful insight from an event that is over in a fraction of a second, is invisible to conventional senses, and is blinding to unconventional ones?
Now we just need to solve the blinding issue. Perhaps some form of enchanted prisms to separate out the "Colours" of the winds might make it less blinding to look at?

[X] Locals

[X] Cython

As cool as The We are, realistically there's always going to be a (pretty high) percentage of people who are not going to feel comfortable using a library staffed by giant predatory spiders. I also vaguely recall that the hunters can react aggressively and bite people when startled so I don't think it's an entirely unreasonable concern. This was from the section on The We hunting at the gauntlet where M talked to one of the senior dwarves I think, though it may have had something to do with them being too far from the main collective consciousness.

On the other hand, you could make an argument that patrons/visitors not wanting to work with The We is not a valid reason to discriminate against our many-limbed friend. IRL institutions have (and still do) fail to hire or train professionals from minority groups, with things like hospitals historically not training black/female/LGBT doctors because "patients are uncomfortable with them and we have to cater to patients first." Having said that...I think the giant spider staff is a pretty different situation and could also be a major sticking point in getting other libraries to share with us.

Locals would be first choice and adding Cython since it's in the running. Cython's got a lot of the same concerns as the spiders but probably to a lesser degree, and I'm legitimately curious about what we could get in return from negotiations where we're offering it a huge hoard of knowledge.

That'd be good enough for a standard Battle Altar but not sufficiently Mathilde for a flagship vehicle?

Like if we could do the Apparition then it could be a Grey Coach sustaining a bunch of Apparitions; draw on that Sylvanian heritage.
Did somebody say apparation;

We can't make battle altar versions of it unless we actually bind one. SO how about it?

…Really, really dumb thought that probably wouldn't work, but the idea of making a staff with an Orb made me think of Windherding some sort of Staff of Volans style thing with an Orb of each Wind. Just, you know, to flex.
