(Roleplaying as actual delegates to the Conference is not essential, but I know a lot of you are thinking about doing it already. Go ahead, enjoy yourselves, if you care to.

Oh, just noticed this. I've been bitten by the writing bug, let's see what I can do...
*The Chicago Convention, 2074*
*An old man in a surplus military jacket stands up from his seat, one of many in what was once the Chicago City Hall*
Lotsa arguing going on around here. Heh. Why shouldn't there be? We're deciding the fate of the nation, after all.
*The old man takes a shaky breath, before continuing*
I'll admit that I don't understand the debate going on right now. I was scientist, and a soldier before that; never a politician or accountant. But I understand one thing: This damn deadlock is getting us nowhere. It doesn't matter if we're Reds, Whites, or Blues.
*The old man gestures to the socialist, republican, and libertarian factions, respectively*
What does matter is that we are all Americans. We uphold values like freedom, and democracy. And if we can agree on one thing, it's that those limp-dick, misogynistic, Victorian bastards can rot in hell.
*Another breath, stronger this time*
Almost 300 years ago, our mothers and fathers rose up against the tyranny of a distant, oppressive monarch. They were also divided, as we are now. Granted, George III was a hell of a better man than Alex could ever dream of, and the Founding Fathers weren't saints. But it's a good comparison. Anyway, we need to follow the example set down by the Continental Congress: Compromise. Reach an agreement that we can all be okay with, if nothing else. As long as the New America is free and prosperous.
Let the Star Spangled Banner fly over America once more; hopefully I'll limp on long enough to see it. Thank you.
*The old man sits back down, his speech over*
