So, just to be funny...

If MCAT lasts til Dawn and Onogoro keeps pushing at that point... Japan would be waking up to notice all the Fires in/around the MCAT compound with magic users attempting to destroy it still.

Would that mean that the Dawn of Fire might be happening? :D

And yeah, things are going pretty well for us this update. West Gate and EF Team 2 are still the biggest concerns right now, but depending on which Empty Face team encountered Fine they're possibly dead or at least weakened or slowed down.

but our helicopters are still all in the air
They're also almost out of heavy AT ammo, so to keep up the pressure, we would need a second wave next round, tying Nanoha up for another round. We probably don't have a second round of close air support coming, and by the time they leave theater, land, rearm and return, the battle could very likely already be over.

Speaking of the Empty Faces, if Team 1 isn't the one that plans on trying to steal from Finé, then theyll be heading to the same section that we'll be having Jupiter go to. In addition, going off the rolls, we'll be having a major success over Onogoro there this round. This ought to be delightful to read.

Nitpick: Nanoha, being Japanese, would likely call them the Air Self Defense Force, as that's the proper term for Japan's current air forces.
Nanoha, being nine, might be a bit imprecise.

Point of information: Flight One is down to two TOWs per bird and most of their 20mm ammunition. Flight Two is down to, oh, probably an average of 5-7 TOWs per bird and most of their 20mm ammunition, because they didn't waste much ammunition trying to launch TOWs into a smoke screen.

Wait it wasn't? ...They rolled 99 on target select (simply choosing the target), and then there was an 8 and Lunaryon said they ran afoul of Fine right?
The target select was for Team 1 (the group heading for the East Gate). Team 2 are the ones who are running into Fine.

A review of the scenes involving or discussing Empty Faces will reveal that there are Empty Faces who are not part of Team One, and not part of Team Two, but who are nevertheless present in the compound.

Oh, I see. So Team 1 is still going to the East gate, but some of the 'unassigned' Empty Face agents will be trying (and failing miserably) to steal from Finè.

Yeah, but even being nine, I would think that her civic education (depending on what I remember her parents doing as jobs and her being a very studious student) would insist on proper terminology when she learned about it, and likely learning about Article 9 and the Jietai is one of the first things in Japanese civics education along with how the government works.

I'm aware it's a very minor nit to pick, but well, my verisimilitude!

Taken together; some of the Empty Faces are going to be running those Faces into Fine and probably getting a rather distressing performance of the 1812 Overture, but there are other groups of them that may well be getting up to some nasty shenanigans yet.

[shrugs]

I'm not saying you're wrong, but can we maybe agree to politely not worry about that specific point of dialogue too much rather than having to pursue this one to the death?

Perhaps, but there is a battle going on at the moment. Air Force is quicker to say than Air Self Defense Force, and they mean the same thing in this situation.

Not in Japanese. Kōkū Jieitai or Kūji (for JASDF) for short is not noticeably longer to say. Air Force in general would be Kōkū butai, if what I'm understanding about the name of the Imperial Japanese Army Air Service is correct.

Yeah, this is just me nitpicking due to my verisimilitude being disrupted. It's ultimately not that important.

Raising Heart: There is actually a species on this planet that filled a similar ecological niche to the Shantair before they developed tool use and started their civilizations. Notably however, the 'Grizzly Bear' are ever so slightly smaller. At least on average. My creators tended to average around ten feet in height, making them taller than the 'bears' of this world, these bears are stockier and heavier built than my creators were. So while they were taller, they weighed less.
So Space!Bears......yeah Nanoha would be considered an honorary member. She's chill until you poke her/something she cares about at which point its on.

And from a check back on the cryochamber records, there are Shantair present:
CRYOCHAMBER EXPERIMENTAL SUBJECTS
- 15 Shantair: Project Research Duration - 100 Standard Imperial Years: ERROR! Experiment Duration Overdue.

Student body
—6 Shantair Protectorate (Shantair)

Sadly, for the actual writing of the main sequence updates, every time there's a need to find out the exact words for an unfamiliar noun in Japanese, it becomes necessary to do an independent research project that involves either rousting one of the few people known socially who actually speak Japanese (who are not always conveniently available), or to do some quick cheap-shit stuff with Wikipedia and Google Translate that is easier but much more prone to failure.

The logistics make some 'oops' moments inevitable, I'm afraid.

Yeah, that's fair. Sure, I found the terms through a quick 5 minute Wikipedia walk and copy and paste, but I'm used to doing that kind of thing as I read Wikipedia for fun (and was really handy when I was studying for Jeopardy and my love for trivia in general). I can understand not spending the mental bandwidth to do so just to be precise.

Ultimately, I agree that this is a very minor nitpick. I'm just going on about it because of the memes about "my verisimilitude!" being somewhat true with me lmao.

Well, we can do that and sometimes we do do that, it's just that when we do it sometimes we get it wrong and make things worse.

If you're really worried about it, my advice is to lean into going "I noticed what you did there" when things are done properly. Incentives work sometimes.

For instance, did you notice in-text when it was pointed out that the space cat 'Artemis' and the Greek goddess 'Artemis' have names that don't actually sound very much alike? Or the detailed ways that Spellblades' names get mangled by Japanese speakers because they have multiple different ways of combining Japanese honorifics and naming conventions, none of which quite line up with the way the Spellblades would speak of themselves in English?

I do like how the pilots seem to have enough training to be able to perform what I call "black-box tactics." There's a flying girl in a white dress, presumably a friendly, who is keeping the missiles from impacting the helicopters. There's been no briefing about who this person is or how their magic is working, and for the purposes of the mission, it's not strictly necessary. All that matters is:
  • Can you identify the end result of the effect?
  • Is the effect performed consistently?
  • If the effect continues to be performed consistently, can you incorporate that into your tactics?
I wonder if the army is going to incorporate some class or training regimen to promote this line of thinking moving forward.
