Or start gabbling about what are apparently exciting video games they figured out how to play on them. That… sounds interesting, and you occasionally feel a powerful, very natural temptation to try those out. Only when you feel that, the gentle ghostly princessly whispers in the back of your head to turn into a screaming banshee cry of NO STOP DON'T NOOO and then you do not do that thing.

Broke: Warn your reincarnation about the specifics of the Dark Kingdom

Woke: Warn your reincarnation to NEVER PLAY VIDEO GAMES NO THEY'LL SUCK YOU IN DON'T DO IT THEY'RE COGNITOHAZARDS STOOOPPPPPPPPP-

You hear Makoto's nervous laughter. "Yeah. I'm… not really happy with the idea of people thinking we might be gods."

She can't see you nodding, but you nod anyway. "I worry about it. I hope we can convince people to stop before it causes any trouble."

Usagi: Man, we gotta take action to make sure people don't think we're goddesses

Also Usagi: My Resurrection spells are exhausting and time-limited for now, but surely with enough training I can revive everybody I want anytime I want! Also, once I figure out how my soul works, I'm sure just living in the same solar system as me grants you a tenfold increase in lifespan... Oh, and I need to discipline Sailor Pluto one day. She may think I'm too young to mess around with spacetime (she's right) but I'm the one who owns the timeline, so if I want time paradoxes I get them.

Okay, so… let's just say that back on Tuesday while we were spread out across the city doing things, our good lawyerly friend Sei was keeping an eye on things at the Crystal Millenium building, and the way she puts it, this lady in a sari walked in alongside a handsome man in a suit who turned out to actually be a blue-furred ape-man in a suit in disguise. Who apparently speaks Japanese, and the lady doesn't. And I'm just going to sum all this up; you can get the details from Naru when you like, but apparently she's a traveling magician from India and she was looking for Naru, and Sei gave her the cold shoulder, so then she asked if she could speak to Sailor Moon, and Sei said you were busy and weren't going to be stopping by today. And the magician was very polite about all this- apparently she's on some kind of mission, but she talked like it was harmless- and she left a message."

Blue indian ape man... Hanuman?

Ah, the Indian mage who is trying to figure out who got Chandra high off of feedback passed by.

I consider it quite likely that they figured out we know who they're looking for but are covering for her, but disguises seem to be doing their job such that they didn't know they were talking to the person they were looking for. And they still don't know they're actually looking for Usagi.

But I consider it pretty likely that they gave us that information to try to get in our good books so that we might warm up to letting them know later.

Not quite, just a vassal to Chandra that featured a side story a while ago.
Beneath the Distant Moon, Ch. 5 In Patience To Abide
Also kinda funny that they have been making their way to Japan for a while and came in the one day that they totally missed Sailor Moon.

Though while they are helpful, just being around is also kind of concerning. Just hoping the Faust and Egyptians have a harder time finding where Naru is.

Hmm...the Onogoro news...it could be better, but at least we've got some warning about what's going to happen. I do believe that we're going to have to do something about that kami-sealing spell though. Even if the Senshi aren't gods, I'd rather not find out what the spell will do to them the hard way.

Unfortunately, we did get notified by Pluto that some Egyptians were getting close.

Fortunately, in the same message she also let us know that she had been helpfully proactive in punting them hard enough they had landed in yesterday in Greenland.

Oh right forgot about that. Though still a kind of temporary solution... but also we probably can put off dealing with the Egyptian Gods for a while.

A few thoughts on the recent update:
  • I thought I was getting deja vu regarding Minori warning us against searching for Saturn. Looking back, it looks like this was an "in-timeline" instance of the conversation included as part of the Turn 9 Results back in... October 2023. Huh, been a minute.
  • It's a bit concerning that Unnati and Kirin have managed to find Naru so quickly, but looking back over the sidestory series, it seems they got a firsthand account of her appearance at Uzume's god garden party, where she used her own face and name, which is a considerable headstart over what Faust and the Egyptians would have.
  • While the Senshi are not technically gods, there's still a non-zero chance that Onogoro's god-capturing spell could have unpleasant results. The Resonance Disruptor got Ami on the fritz; there's no telling if there's some aspect of this spell that might interface strangely with the Senshi's transformations.
  • I'm not sure if we've actually figured out the Knights of Oblivion's "deal" yet, let alone why they're digging in Syria. I'm getting Raiders of the Lost Ark vibes; some tomb raiding may be in the Senshi's future.
  • We're headed to Mercury, boys and girls! Let's get these nerds out of the pods and in front of the Moon computers!

*winces*

Yeah, the Monday cluster really got away from me and took waaaaaay too long to write. I am desperately hoping that I can get to Turn 10 over the course of next month. The turns are getting long enough that I know some people have been getting frustrated.

"Vassal" isn't really the word. She's a quite powerful magician, but she still treats the Hindu gods with a lot of respect, though with considerably more personal familiarity than any typical Hindu would be likely to contemplate.

Perhaps she decided to just give up on what her multi-centenarian self considers a conventional search via the shrines and Onogoro, and try the improbably powerful group of supernatural women who were (rather crassly) making the muggle news, as it were. Even if none of the individuals making the news look anything like the 'Naru' described by Ushas, well, one bunch of hyperactive and clearly unconventional demigoddesses may well have leads as to the whereabouts of another. And, of course, they may also know WTF happened with the 'Chandra getting a contact high' incident, since no known lunar deity Chandra can conveniently reach out to seems to know.

That might be optimistic, but we can at least try. A different philosophy as to the way pitched battles are handled has its virtues, though that is far from the only reason why things sometimes stretch out.

It didn't help that it genuinely was sheer chance that Eas' attack on MCAT headquarters and the Choshi City raid took place on the same day, since obviously the two weren't coordinating their movements.

"I know that we-" Ami stops suddenly, looking confused. "Okay?"

"I already said I'd come with you." You smile gently at her. "I should go tell Mom where we're going, but aside from that, I'm ready as soon as you are."
I find it funny that Ami apparently had this huge speech prepared to convince Usagi (she probably even had slides ready to project from the Mercury computer etc) and the response is just 'Cool let's go!'.

Worst case scenario I can see happening is that it succeeds in sealing Usagi and everything else that is mortal away. Leaving everything else that is her in charge of her body until the seal is broken.
I do not want to deal with an unrestricted and unfettered eldritch being. That way leads to rainbows and casual space/time/dimensional violations.

To be clear, is this more like a "this is the word remotely conceivable outcome I can imagine" scenario to you?

Because I'm not at all sure why it'd have that effect.

...Not going to lie, I kinda want to just let the kami-sealing spell happen, solely on the chance it just doesn't work on the Senshi

Just imagine the soul-crushing despair the Onogoro would feel after that.

Can we please not try to tank a god seal spell if we don't have to, at least until we unlock the Silver of Silvers.

"I probably wouldn't be thinking of doing this, Luna, but… if Minori was able to travel back in time, I don't see why the people who threatened her wouldn't be able to, either. Especially if they, ah… defeated a grown-up version of me." Which is a dark, chilling thought if ever there was one. And this, this part, is something you now give voice to for the first time. "Minori's come back to me from about thirty years in the future. What can I do against any threat to her, to us, now, that my future self couldn't do at the age of forty-five? How do I win now when I can't win then?"

Interesting that Usagi thought they beat Future Moon here (unless I missed something, wouldn't be the first time) rather than try to sidestep her like in canon. It that isn't the case I wonder if Minori would catch that and correct it.

Pluto/Kore: no Usagi, I will not create 'the room of spirit and time' so you can train for a year in a single day because your worried about beating an enemy you know is coming. This is Usagi Quest, not Goku Quest.

Usagi: aww, it worked in the manga…

IMO the best is probably to get someone with an entirely non-sponsored type of magic on overwatch.

The spell should do jack shit to Nanoha since hers is pure magical sciences at work.

But in the interests of not dragging the nine year old into a civil war having our best mages hidden and ready to counter or disrupt the spell will have to do.

"Right. The thing is, it wasn't even about her mission, it was… well. Apparently, she's been in Japan for a few weeks, and she's mostly been visiting shrines and talking to Onogoro mages while she was doing it, and she heard something. Because some Onogoro mages wanted to know if a spell they were planning would work, and they asked her enough questions that she got interested, and one thing led to another and she found out they were planning, yeah, to attack MCAT headquarters tomorrow night. We hadn't quite figured out what we were going to do about that if you hadn't woken up, but we didn't think we should leave MCAT hanging in the breeze, so Sei warned Samui late last night to tell her, and Minako and me called her later and promised her that some of us would be there."
Onogoro needs better OPSEC
"Well. The magician, she didn't give a real name, called herself 'a cattle-rancher in service to the waning god' whatever that means, was very specific about one thing. The Onogoro magicians have done… something... involving a spell that she says they used hundreds of years ago to bind kami into shrines. Including some kami who didn't like the idea of being bound very much. She says they're planning to trap us with it. She didn't say she was sure it'd work on us or not, but she acted like she thinks it would. Then again… I'm pretty sure she thinks we're kami."
They really need better OPSEC, but it works in our favor so it's not really that big a deal

It was partly a failure to understand differing cultural and religious perspectives (modern Onogoro mages do not think the same way about their pantheon that modern Indian mages do).

And it was partly a speciesist thing.

They weren't expecting a fellow human mage from a more or less Masquerade-compliant society to decide that what they were doing was impious, and that selling them out would benefit a hidden agenda she hadn't told them about, and then betray the confidence of one of her hosts.

So yes, whoever planned this will wish they'd had better OPSEC, assuming they find out about the leak.
