Yeah, the original was sillier, but the Manga and by extension Crystal... jumped around a bit, like there were bits of the story and/or character interactions skipped over.

To be fair, my honest impression is that Crystal was basically written to be "let's do a remake of the anime, but with no filler episodes because we're thinking about digital distribution as much or more than TV syndication." Crystal would inevitably have a very compressed plot.
Basically... we've been modeling more after the anime than other sources, as I see it, but with a higher tempo of operations and a higher level of Taking Shit Seriously. With the result that we have a lot less slice-of-life and shenanigans going on, so things move faster.

mostly, yes, at least for this arc, but we've been told it's a mix of both anime and manga elements. We'll probably notice the manga elements more in later arcs, if we get to that point.
More like a VERY faithful adaptation of the manga, while the original anime basically was its own thing. I saw comparisons in a review to the two different series of Full Metal Alchemist.
In case you don't know, the original FMA quickly caught up to the manga, and then they came up with their own story. Later on FMA Brotherhood was instead made as a faithful adaptation.
With Sailor Moon, Crystal is a faithful adaptation done many years later, while the original Sailor Moon, having caught up to the manga, introduced both some original elements (including some very appreciated character development for all the senshi), and MANY monsters of the week.
..I notice that It sounds like I'm basically saying "no, except yes" to you... I suppose my point is that Crystal is not "the original anime, but without filler" (because the differences went BEYOND simply adding filler, as far as I understand), but is instead "The manga story, in anime form".
I just have to watch the last episode and then I'm at the second season, where they say things get a bit better. Right now I'd say that the faster plot progression has both pros and cons.
It's REALLY a shame how little character development there is for any character not named Usagi (and, to a lesser extent, Mamoru). Animation is also a bit bad in some point, but that's not really the dealbreaker.
(Also, even with the ability to mind control basically all of tokyo, SOMEHOW the villains STILL don't feel like a genuine threat!)
(Also, EVERYONE is dumb. Then again the senshi are all 14 years old, Luna lacks most of her memories, and the villains are all brainwashed to some extent, so I suppose I can excuse that)

Well, Motoki's heart flower is pretty, growing pure and healthily. You think the flower is called the Bluebell, and... if you remember correctly from your studies on Flower Language last week, that it represents Humility and reliability.
Both of which are definitely things that you would say represent Motoki.

Yes, that is an idea that totally works and doesn't have any glaring holes in the thought process that Usagi is very defiantly ignoring and refusing to acknowledge. Now... Now Usagi just need to figure out some way to signal back. To make sure that Tuxedo Mask disguised as Mamoru knows that his message has been received, and that she has also adjusted her plans because of Jadeite.
Usagi thinks for a moment, before she nods to herself. "Thanks for the advice, Mamoru!" The girl says cheerfully. "You're not... completely terrible, but that's the best you'll get while wearing something like that. Though," Usagi tilts her head, eyes half lidded as she grins at him. "I think you'd be able to pull off a Tuxedo quite well. Anyways, I'm off to pray for good luck before I head to the Clock shop you mentioned."
The fake Mamoru's face goes a little red, at the same time that Motoki starts to laugh. Usagi isn't sure... why... but That isn't something to think about right now.
Making her way out from the Crown Game Center, Usagi glances around. Now that the sun is fully risen, there are more and more people out and about. Particularly because today is Greenery Day. Annoyingly, that means that the girl can't simply call out to Luna out in the open.
Stepping out of the open and into the side alleyways, Usagi glances up. "Luna?"
The black cat slips out from behind a trashcan, all but radiating smugness. "Good Morning Usagi!" The cat says with a yawn. "You're up and out early."

"I just ran into... I'm pretty sure it was Tuxedo Mask pretending to be that jerk Mamoru." Usagi explains, Luna's head tilts in interest, but the girl doesn't explain further, "I was asking Motoki at the Arcade about some rumors, and one really caught my ear."
"You remember that shrine I was planning on checking out tomorrow afternoon?"
The cat nods, "The one with the disappearing buses."
"Yeah," Usagi confirms. "That's the one. Apparently, the shrine has picked up a new employee. A tall, thin, blonde whose kind of a jerk." Luna simply raises an eyebrow, "His name is apparently also Jadeite."
The cat stares at Usagi, and Usagi stares at the cat. Until the cat slowly sighs. "You're sure that was Tuxedo Mask giving you the information?"
"Like... 80% sure..." Usagi offers, "And the other 20% is that is was actually Mamoru who just so happens to have exactly the same heart flower as Tuxedo Mask but who is definitely not Tuxedo Mask. Nope."
Luna stares at the girl for a moment longer, before sighing again. "I'm guessing you were hoping that I could grab everyone?"
Usagi grins, "Grab Naru first."
The cat blinks in surprise, "Sure... but why? I don't mean to be mean to Naru, but she isn't exactly a front line fighter."
"No, but she's got Neptune's number." There is a moment of silence, before Luna bursts into snickers.
"Of course," There is something almost vicious about the way that Luna says that, "Dropping the Queensgard on his as well. I'll stick with Naru in order to get the Outer Senshi in on the plan." Luna suggests, "While you go and call Ami and Mokoto."

It only takes a few minutes to find the closest payphone, and calling Ami only a few minutes more. Usagi's blue haired friend is going to head to the shrine as soon as she can, but the genius girl is a little tied up with doing the prep work for her and her mother's dinner tonight. It'll be about a half an hour before she get even get moving, so Ami will probably be late, even considering the idea of transforming and taking the rooftops.
Unfortunately, calling Makoto is not as easy as calling Ami was. Time and again, the girl's home phone rings and rings and rings, but there is no answer. Makoto isn't home, and given that Ami is still putting the finishing touches on her experiment with the beacons, they haven't been passed out to everyone yet, which means that there is no way for Usagi to simply teleport to her friend's side.
There is a part of the blonde that wants to just continue to stand there, wasting yen as she keeps on calling Makoto. But if the first and the second and the third and the fourth time didn't manage to get through, then there really wasn't much chance of the fifth time managing to get through. Admittedly, part of the reason why is because Usagi knows that Makoto is the strongest fighter of her allies, and if they are planning on trying to face off against Jadeite...
Usagi wants all the power that she can have on her side. Hopefully Naru will be able to contact the Queensgard and convince them to help, but there is every chance that they will have their own troubles to deal with - The Oblivion won't deal with itself after all. Nor will the Doketsu Zone, or whatever Pisard's group are called. That means that all Usagi can rely on are her own Royal Guard for now, and even then... Sailor V is off in England.
The fact that Sailor V is off in Englad does bring a thought to Usagi however. She does now know a teleport spell. Somehow.
Sailor V is facing off against her own branch of the Dark Kingdom, and wouldn't it just be such a wonderful surprise for the Dark General handling that area to find himself facing off against nearly four times the fire power?
Something that the girl will have to think about more, when she has more time and less panic over a potential fight with a very powerful enemy right around the corner.
There is something waiting outside the phone booth, a slightly annoyed look on their face. Usagi can't keep hemming and hawing over whether or not to use the Phone. She needs to either use it, or get started on making her way to the Shrine.
With a frustrated sigh, the girl steps out of the booth, moving out of the way to let the older gentleman pass, very pointedly ignoring the way that he grumbles about Children with no respect for their elders.
This is normally the part where Usagi finds herself a quiet spot away from prying eyes in order to transform into Sailor Moon and make her way across the rooftops to her destination. However, yesterday both Ami and Makoto got onto the girl for her lack of directional ability when she failed to give any degree of directions for Alice. Of course, there is another reason behind her lack of a transformation as well.
Usagi doesn't actually know where the Shrine is. She knows the name of the shrine, and it's general location, which is all well and good, but if she wants to actually get there anywhere approaching soon, then she has to do what she hasn't done in close to a month now.
Take the bus.

To be fair to Usagi, I strongly suspect that Tuxedo Mask's secret identity is protected by a Silver Millennium glamour broadly similar to the Sailor Scouts' own versions.
In which case there is a bullshit-tier cognitohazard hammering on her brain refusing to let her seriously entertain the notion "Mamoru Chiba is Tuxedo Mask." Reversing that to "wait, what if Tuxedo Mask is secretly disguised as Mamoru Chiba, given that I myself have disguise magic and maybe so does he" is actually a reasonably clever workaround.
Occam's Razor is not your friend in situations like this, because your perception of which hypotheses are simple is inevitably distorted.
In her defense, she really, Really doesn't want to imagine the dashing Tuxedo Mask in . . . That Outfit. Its pretty easy to succumb to a glamor when your brain is actively trying to help it.

Incidentally, it's been mentioned that Beryl used to kill women who hung around Endymion for too long. This means that, if she should ever figure out that Endymion = Tuxedo Mask, she may target the Pretty Cures. It would probably be a good idea to give them some signal beacons and tips on fighting youma, just in case.

In the manga Usagi won them from a Sailor V game right around now (Sailor Mars) while in the anime Luna gave the Senshi the communicators (saying they were ready for missions now) but it wasn't for several more episodes (post-Jadeite during Nephrite's time).

I don't think we've been given explanation on this specific roll, and it's very much a genre convention for Usagi and her friends to stumble upon the latest DK plot by sheer accident.
I mean, what are the odds for Naru's mom to be replaced by youma, for Usagi of all people to help out Luna on that very same day, and for a never-seen-before-or-after feature of Sailor Moon's kit to activate just in time to have her hear Naru's cry of distress?
Let's face it, the Universe makes it one of her goals to have Senshi be in the area of some kind of trouble when it's about to happen.
