Which is...still very reasonable for land in the Greater Tokyo Area, but very much not something Soun, who has basically brought nothing into the household in around ten years, could afford at all. And even Nabiki would likely struggle to get that immediately, assuming she would gather the necessary cash at all.

That's not true though. Soun may not be teaching any more, but he still rents out the Dojo for parties and gatherings. And you know, he does actually have a job. IIRC, he's on the Nerima City Council.

True, that is still a lot. I'm just fighting back against the fanon that Soun and Genma just laze about at home all day. (Genma works as an assistant at the local medical clinic, btw.)
Genma only finds a job after he's helped cause enough damage to piss off Nabiki, Iirc. Either that, or it was his wife's reappearance that caused him to start working—just so he'd be out of the house if she ever came over.

Either way, Soun and Genma canonically get drunk as skunks on a regular basis, which would probably rack up the costs quickly unless they're complete lightweights (which, given how hard it was for them to get Happosai drunk enough to trap in that cave, I'd say they probably aren't).

I've just checked the wiki, and...
Wiki said:
It is assumed that Soun has some stable job or another source of steady income. He's never explicitly seen training students, although this may simply occur off-screen. In the separate anime continuity, however, one episode revolves around the fact that the dojo has no students at all, leading to monetary troubles. Soun has also complained about the costs of hosting two freeloading house guests, but conversely has not pushed either Genma or Ranma to somehow earn their keep, although Genma briefly worked for Tofu Ono. Soun likely earns money from the recurrent monster or troublemaker hunts, and has rented out the dojo, and had Kasumi serve food, for a local ladies' club meeting. He doesn't mind occasionally treating his family to dinner, or a vacation by the sea, but does complain about money troubles in the anime. In the manga he is mortified when Nabiki spends his meagre savings on expensive gifts for herself, or when a battle between Pantyhose Taro and Rouge repeatedly made holes in the house. In the latter case the family handled the repairs themselves, rather than let a craftsman look at it, despite Akane's being shown as very lacking.
The wiki has nothing but presumptions on where and how the Tendo patriarch makes money.

Also, this bit of fridge logic kicked me in the groin:
Soun seems fully aware of Ryoga Hibiki's piglet curse after watching the latter change in front of him in the bath. He was completely unsurprised when seeing it again during Taro's introduction story. Despite knowing this, he doesn't seem to mind that Akane keeps the former as a pet, and allows him to sleep in her bed at night.

So, Soun gets unreasonably angry at Ranma for the smallest perceived slights against his daughter, and yet is shown to know about Ryoga's piglet curse, and that Akane sleeps with him as a "pet." Yech.

Just one more reason why taking a comedy seriously can lead to uncomfortable fridge; we needed the gag of Ranma being jealous towards a pig, and also the gag of Soun just watching said pig hop in the bath before Ryoga steps out, and then leave them unconnected, Because Funny.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about that. That's... that's bad. To be fair, I don't think he knows "P-Chan" actually sleeps in his daughter's bed with her, but that only kind of softens the blow. Dude should have definitely done something about the guy he knew was pretending to be his youngest daughter's pet.

The least terrible interpretation I can think of is that Soun assumes that Akane already knows and is cool with it, for whatever reason. From his perspective his daughter knows:
- That jusenkyo curses are a thing.
- That 'P-chan' is missing most of the time and generally turns up either immediately before or after Ryoga.
- That 'P-chan' is far more intelligent than a piglet and has a grudge against Ranma.
The idea that she just never noticed, or that Ryoga of all people would be able to keep it secret, may have just never occurred to him.

Still terrible, but stupidity and apathy rather than active malice.

...Quick question, do Akane's sisters know? It's been some time since I last saw the series, but I doubt they do in this setting.

If they did, I suspect P-chan would vanish into a foreign zoo.

My memory on that is a bit fuzzy too, but in absence to confirmation otherwise, I can't see Nabiki not knowing. I can equally see her not doing anything about it unless she could make a profit off of it somehow.

All he is worth being? He has no money, no possessions side from what he carries (and somehow retrieves after being rendered naked by his transformation periodically), can't reliably provide any services due to wandering…
What exactly could she blackmail him for?
His worth as being sold at market as pork cutlets.

Superhumanly strong sucker.
She usually uses Ranma for that but he's too smart

Considering that Ryoga is not currently Nabiki's slave and Akane has not decided to cook Long Pig, I'll assume she doesn't know here.

It would be a horribly Nerima thing for none of the sisters to put together Ryoga= P-chan due to sheer bad luck.

that was a great OP post that answered so many questions except: Will Ranma's reincarnation-of-Silver-Millenium-Era-person end up adding ANOTHER fiancee to his life???
Inquiring Minds Want To Know

I'm excited to wait for the answer hehehehe

Well that is one that I have put a lot of hints around already, and I can't say any more without revealing what a few people have already guessed. But Ranma's Preincarnation was someone very loud and easy to spot.

Clearly it'd be past Makoto.
Both reincarnations ended up in Nerima, and we know the last Sailor Jupiter was looking for a spouse.

See, with all the Demon Slayer stuff recently, my first thought jumped to Tengen Uzui, even though their appearances are significantly different.

...I do not think Ranma should emulate Tengen Uzui, for his own health.

So so far, I think only two people have guessed Ranma's preincarnation correctly. I will also say that there are two other members of the Ranma cast that have preincarnations. One is a SM era person, and one is a sengoku era
