[x] Shen Hu approached you for once. He has found the abandoned lair of an underworld dragon, but is not confident that he can face the scavengers that fill it unopposed.

This is going to disappear sooner or later. How many turns has that been there?

Pill gacha has been restocked and rerolled, new pills are on the front page

also fixed some clerical issues on front page stat bonuses back to 10 xp for vanishing at 5

[X] Xuan Shi is the closest thing to an expert on Xuan Wu that you know, and your liege has asked you to get closer to him. He's also not a bad sort, perhaps together you can put Zhengui through his paces?

[X] Luo Zhong has invited you to join his clique on a hunt, it is an opportunity to learn more of the factions which divide the emerald seas

So the pill gacha is up and the picks are decidedly not impressive.
Pill Market

Junior

North Wind Pill: Add sixty resource dice to the cultivation of Wind Arts

Winding River Pill: Add sixty resource dice to vultivation of Water Arts

Senior

Martial Spirit Pill: For each AP of Arm, Spine or Leg art cultivation this turn add a .05 (Max .5) multiplier to Spiritual cultivation

Moonflower Condensation Elixer: For each AP of Moon art cultivation during the turn add a .05 (Max .5) multiplier to physical cultivation
For Junior pills, we have all of 2 wind arts of which one is HDW, and for Water we have UGM and maybe CDE+, so those are a no even taking into account that a +60 dice bonus on arts isn't that impressive or what we're looking for.

For the senior pills, ignoring requirements for a sec, +0.5 maximum multiplier on top of our existing 1.2 base multiplier means a whopping +1.66ish AP to spirit or phys per senior pill. That's not even paying for itself if it was a Junior pill, let alone a senior one.

For reference, here's the better early turn pills we've seen:
Junior:
- Unwavering Discipline Pill: For each AP spent training arts add 25 successes to Physical Cultivation
- Gelid Empowerment Pill: When training Yin arts add one tenth of total successes gained to Spiritual Cultivation

Senior:
- Stellar Body Pill: When cultivating Yin arts, add one fifth of total successes to Physical Cultivation
- Melodic Elixir: Add 80 resource dice to cultivation of music arts. Add one fourth of successes to spiritual cultivation
The value for them (in order):
Junior
- 1.8 phys AP at the time (not great but we needed it at the time and couldn't afford the senior pill)
- 3ish spirit AP at reasonable investment
Senior
- 6ish AP at reasonable investment
- with 3 applicable arts: 4ish Art AP plus 4ish base AP, and at the time the return was slightly higher

So yes, these pills suck ass. The senior ones in particular would maybe work as Junior pills (if only because something is better than nothing, and we need something soon), but as senior pills they just aren't worth the cost.

To make it more explicit, off of our current stock and tutoring SP income we can pay at most ~15 SP per gained base AP, significantly less if we also want stuff like archive visits, tutoring, and gear upgrades. These senior pills pay 36 SP per base AP, and that's at maximum efficiency use.

Let's hope next turns' gacha turns out better.

To add to BN's analysis, here are the tables of pill efficiency for different bonuses (this can always be found on my cultivation spreadsheet under the "overview of arts and bonuses" tab).

As we can see, for +multiplier to base (which those senior pills are), we really want to be looking for around +1.5 multiplier for a senior pill.

While getting closer to Xuan Shi isn't a bad idea, as he himself pointed out, we only ever seem to approach him to bother him about xuanwu stuff. I think it'd be much preferable if we had something else to do together, like that quest last time (although he was the one coming to us for that).

Ling Qi blurred to the side, and a hand shrouded in ash grey fire speared through the blurred afterimage where her eye had been. The gleaming saber in her right hand swept up to deflect the other girls second hand away from her throat, and Ling Qi smoothly transitioned into a thrust, and her opponent glided back, riding her own shadow.

Xiao Fen eyed her warily over her hands, returning to the tight defensive guard of her initial stance as curling streamers of grey fire rose from her hands. Ling Qi smiled faintly, returning back to her own open starting stance, her saber held out to one side at middle height. She had finally found something useful to do with her blade training. Cai Renxiang had begun to walk her through the basics, but with Xiao Fen, using a saber served as a good handicap.

I must say that I really like that the narrative is already using what skills Ling Qi is training this month. Using a handicap so that we can actually spar with Xiao Fen while also training ourselves is a neat bit of double-dipping. Also, this gives Cai another thing to teach us, which I'm sure she is secretly excited about. Spreading the glory of the saber!

Also, I can definitely see Xiao Fen getting frustrated during this training. When you are objectively better melee combat than your opponent, losing simply because of a difference in power level has to be frustrating.

It's completely understandable that she would want to take out her frustration on a couple of goons in the outer sect. Ahh Xiao Fen, you are adorable.

A detail, but we have ENM/LFWT that are confirmed at being trained beside HDW, and MNO forever~

Sadly, the Wind Pill has stacking issue with the 'Dark Turn' of the Dark pill, as we probably can't get ENM/LFTW to 1AP, and iirc the Dark Pill already takes them to 2AP.

So, basically, @Erebeal did a great Job with their Comic back in the day.

So, our recent Bai history lesson inspired me to illustrate the story of Yao the Fisher.

And so I present, the 100% legit story of the Origins of the Bai:

On a more serious note: I didn't know we would get patreon Content. That is actually kind of cool. I do hope it doesn't negatively affect yrs subscriber count though.

"The Snake and the Fisherman" said:
"I am Yao of the Skittering Fen, where the Face Eater gathered the sons of men and left them in squalor and privation to strive against one another, with only enticing visions and voices of her encouragement to drive them on and keep them from despair. I am Yao, who emerged from the pit and found my promised reward to be a bloated and indolent grub, and so slew it and made its power my own,"

Huh, so Yao's origin was the cultivator equivalent of Gu (蛊)? That explains a lot.

The Snake and the Fisherman said:
"It is madness then," the White Serpent scoffed, her anger dulled only by bafflement. "Foolish man, I am no thirsting dragon maiden, eager to squeeze my majesty into your kinds pathetic frame and rut. It is only for your past service that I do not strike you down for such an insult. Apologize, and perhaps you may serve again."
Lol! Tsun Snek throwing some serious shade at them thirsty dragons :p

Could you guys, you know, not share stuff that hasn't yet been released beyond patrons yet?

Hi, I've been enjoying the quest, but I find it hard to follow when sometimes 20 new pages come up overnight. I know it's possible to read only the threadmarks, but then I sometimes miss out on interesting worldbuilding information. Does anyone know if it's possible to filter an SV thread to only the OP's posts?
