Three Spirits... Ling Qi's Dantian is a party and everyone is invited.:V

Have we been told at what level of the students having this many spirits is common?
Given that as far as we know all of the powerhouses of our year are still on two I'm guessing 500's?

I am fine with the amount of family time Ling Qi has currently, I don't really want them to take up more screen time right now, and I think our friends need us more at the moment.

[X] While you will be present as much as you can, your household cannot be top priority yet. (Status quo)

[X] In the future, devote more time to your household and your family. (-1AP in future turns)

Remember Elder Jiao's advice to us towards the end of the last thread?

"Don't let your job define your Way"

(Well, specifically, what he told us was "There is neither happiness nor satisfaction to be found as a shadow. Be mindful in choosing what you are forced to discard on the roadside of the Way.", but it basically boils down to 'Don't throw away your happiness and satisfaction lightly just because it would make doing your job easier')

Ling Qi wants to make a Home for herself, that's going to be an integral part of her Way no doubt, and a Home without companions and family isn't really one at all in her point of view. Avoiding that because it would potentially compete with our Job seems like it's making the mistake Jiao warned us about, and we know that somehow, he went from a shoe-in to White to a wash-out at the finish line.

And the Advice of a Prism who actually seems to kind of like us over the vague orders of a White who has--at best--noticed us--is something I'm going to give a lot of credence to. Especially as I don't really feel like we're in particular jeopardy to get to our goal in the first place? Get our goal and go out on a few whims maybe, but this seems like the kind of thing that would give useful context for Advanced Insights in the future.

Not as much a sacrifice as others likes to exaggerate. Our AP plans already contain stuff that we don't really use like that worm art from last thread that was used only once in any really capacity. So that -1 AP just means not as much focus on the niche arts. (Like that divination on we have now)
This only works if we know in advance what arts matter, which we definitely don't.

Make the character stronger at the cost of interaction with the family? How very Xianxia, no thanks. Furthermore, it'd feel incredibly strange if the protag had all this development regarding family and then just ignored it because "gotta get hueg".
I'm obviously not as invested as certain people that spend a lot of time here but I'm alright with it. Whatever will happen, will happen.

Also, Alectai has made a great point.

I think putting more time into our household just now, while not a bad thing per se, would come with a few too many drawbacks.
One, we have significant duties with regards to Cai Renxiang and the Duchess, which are more pressing for now.
Two, we have given our mother free reign over the household just a few months ago and she is doing well, I'd like to not be too overbearing just yet. The relationships are still relatively new, and a lot of the cultivation stuff we are involved in seems downright terrifying to mostly-mortals. Having to hide that while spending more time with our family doesn't seem particularly healthy for either side.
Three, LQ is already juggling a lot of social obligations, her family is one of them, but it would be a mistake to neglect her friends over it. They are just as much part of her in-group.
Four, Hanyi is a bit of a terror, it would probably be better for everyone if she could practice her social skills on cultivators for a while, first...

On the other hand, this is the kind of decision that can be delayed again and again, so to counteract that I'd personally like to precommit to pushing for more family time as soon as we are through Cai Shenhua's challenge. Unfortunately that doesn't mean too much in a format like this, but I will do so nonetheless.

Thinking harder, we'll likely spend some AP on Hanyi and Zhengui in the near future anyways, and over the course of the next 16 turns, I'd easily expect at least 8 AP to be spent on Hanyi/Sixiang/Zhengui, possibly more. They're family, so the AP we spend on "family matters" should cover their needs.

[X] In the future, devote more time to your household and your family. (-1AP in future turns)

Unless someone with the math can definitively say that 8 or so AP will be the difference between success and failure, this will be my vote.

I believe in the power of friendship, and family with whom you have good relations counts too I think.

My reasoning is simple. I just really like our family interactions.

On the contrary, now, in the Sect, is likely the most free time we'd ever have for the foreseeable future.

We're in College. Theres assignments pinching at us, theres connections to be made, and theres that killer Final Year Project/Thesis Defense looming ahead with vague requirements for passing.

Once we go out, we have duties in the army, where our family is unlikely to be anywhere near, for our own peace of mind if nothing else. We have duties to the fief administration, and given a border fief, is going to involve flying out there and alternately punching or bribing uppity spirits. All of which makes it much harder than meeting our family in a safe zone, within a short sprint of our primary work and residential area, and where we're free to set our own schedule.

Yrsillar is not in the habit of giving meaningless event choices.
Our choices define how Ling Qi does things in the absence of a specific decision point.
Our choice to try to turn every social action into cultivation meant that our social time with our friends is primarily focused around Exploration(which is actually cultivation because EPC), Sparring(which is actually cultivation because EPC) or Meditating(which is cultivation). With the natural consequence of drifting away from socials which do not provide any immediate cultivation advantages.
We've tried with limited success to pair up our social links so we can do more of them at once. Didn't work out though.

This choice effectively means that we make a conscious decision to place our cultivation above family concerns, though we've yet to place work within that ranking.
And the entire arc leading up to this choice is all about facing and acknowledging that we've been doing so.

On a more practical level, look at our social event allotment and look at the upcoming issues we need to fix in our Family Circle:
-Qingge is now Red. What now for her cultivation? She can use drugs now, and we could check out Red arts(particularly cultivation arts, since our Red cultivation art is Sect-only) of reasonable quality for her to keep progressing.
--Do we want to introduce her to our friends now that she has a minimum competency? Meizhen may need more preparation, but Xiulan or Suyin should be fine. Do we want to introduce her to our boss?

-Zhengui had just woken up in Green, he needs to adjust to his new power and he needs to get to know Sixiang, as well as work out how he functions as a team with Hanyi.

-Hanyi has massive amounts of fresh trauma that needs to be adapted to. She's also got little tact or social graces, both of which needs work if she's to not disrupt other activities. Qingge took it in good grace, but if we wish her to perform with us at the parties, she's going to need to learn to avoid causing offense first.

-Sixiang is fine for now.

At our current spread of socials per turn, if we want to address all these, then we're going to be looking at missing out on:
-Cai Renxiang - We keep meaning to meet her in more of a context than work and cultivation, but its always put off since its not in a rush. It'd be put off again of course.

-Xuan Shi - We've passed over his link twice now, because of various more urgent concerns. I don't think any of us would contest that our family concerns are going to be prioritized over him.

-Shen Hu - New link, not a big deal either way.

Meizhen, Suyin and Xiulan are fine for now. We've not had much Meizhen time lately though.
Either way, we are unlikely to be getting more social time without spending actual time on things are we?

People making the argument that the 1 AP will be spent on bad arts anyways are being idiotic. It's not like we seek out bad arts to train, we get arts because we think they will be good and sometimes for one reason or another they don't work out.

The comparison that actually makes sense is SP. 16 AP of lost job actions is 16*15.5 = 248 SP. That's lost pills and lost tutoring that could be spent on accomplishing Shenua's insane goal and providing for our family in the future. 16 lost AP is not some rounding error to throw away, it's a huge amount that could easily be the difference between winning and losing. We're basically gambling 248 SP on a mystery box here, from a perspective of trying to survive what by all appearances is a very difficult challenge and not be replaced.
