"Her Nanny's granddaughter. She had been attempting to get the girl into the temples before, but…"

Ling Qi nodded, understanding. She understood that Biyu's Nanny was her mothers friend, a woman who had been… promoted to their workplaces administration with age. Even then the stigma still stuck though

I posted in discord but for non discord people.
I think we should throw a party and here's why !
our house is full of people who never got to celebrate anything, the shunned, the ones looked down upon for stigmatized against. We seen in some of the letter interludes from our mom that some people wouldn't even sell them basic goods , clothing, food or at the very least they would upcharge everything. That means most of our house didnt get to host celebrations , they had to save every penny , going to public festivities could also have been a rather depressing affair as most would shun them, leer, or worse.
sure there could be jealousy, but do you wanna know what else there could be? Hope. They see that even if not everyone can succeed, that those that do will be celebrated regardless of their old affiliations. That they can join in on these festivities without leering eyes, or eyes full of hate and find joy that ONE OF THEM was able to be uplifted. and maybe, just maybe, one day perhaps a child, or a grandchild , or a nephew or niece of their own will be standing their, being celebrated, being rewarded.

EDIT- SIDE NOTE. IF WE THROW A PARTY WE CAN INVITE YU NUAN! SHE IS ALSO A LING :p

I like the idea of doing a public feast or party, then after eating take the awakened in a procession to the garden for their first lesson. Like, a send-off dinner? Community-seperation-journey-community but with a new role?

Biyu is totally going to steal an RSS and awaken early on her own, isn't she.

Probably not this early (CRX's circumstances were exceptional and should not be repeated), but Meizhen was helped at age 8 ...

[ ] Make it something more open, the whole household invited out to the gardens for a celebration of success.

Probably a bad idea. But until convinced otherwise... PARTY!

[ ] Make it a quiet affair, a feast for the successful candidates and their families

A focus on achievement and being special, more drive and diligence. But may generate a gap between the haves and have nots

[ ] Make it something more open, the whole household invited out to the gardens for a celebration of success.

A focus on the community, and working to keep those who can cultivate close to their mortal peers.

[ ] Make it a more solemn affair, a procession at the site she and Zhengui had built up

Tie it to faith and duty.

I think number 2 resonates with our style best.
Number 1 does too, but carries seeds of headaches later.

"helped" in that case being the incredibly painful thing that Ling Qi experienced back in Forge when Meizhen helped her experience her Dantian by making it too painful to be unaware of.

I like the party idea. I think it's a good seed for a coming-of-age ceremony as both mortals and immortals start off in the same place. It's the good start of a tradition of tying mortals and immortals together for our clan/culture/community. Life is to be enjoyed and celebrated!

Responsibility should grow with ability. We can talk that gloomy stuff later. For now, it's a good thing! The Community prospers, and children are able to grow!

Kinda wish we could combine options 2 and 3. Big feast for everyone and then take the promising hopefuls out for a lesson. Too much time and effort but if we aren't encouraging our subordinates to be cultivation crazy like we are what are we doing?

But honestly big party is probably best option. We can also nudge it to be more community focused too nip any jealousy in the bud. Like, these people may cultivate but it will only be because of everyone's hardworking that the house as a whole can succeed.

"I see, that's very good," Ling Qi said. Even minor talent wasn't strictly common. Most people simply couldn't cultivate at all, from what she understood, even if showered with spirit stones. Though some more dangerous methods could induce the ability. "Who are they?"

"Min Leidi is the oldest at fourteen."

"The shrine girl?" Ling Qi wondered. Zhengui had mentioned the girl who had built his shrine in the garden.

"Lei-lei is nice!" Biyu chirped.

"Her Nanny's granddaughter. She had been attempting to get the girl into the temples before, but…"

Ling Qi nodded, understanding. She understood that Biyu's Nanny was her mothers friend, a woman who had been… promoted to their workplaces administration with age. Even then the stigma still stuck though. "I see, and the others?"

"Continuing light exercises for the younger ones are probably fine. Have any of them actually awakened?"

"Only Min Leidi, though I believe Zhang Shu may be close. I do not have your senses," Ling Qingge said.
My my somebody has some drive and talent.

A party... might not be the super best? Brothels sometimes build a reputation like, "where there's a party every night" and depending on the (Sixiang-encouraged?) rowdiness of the party, it may bring bad visibility.

The more I think about it, the more I like the third one best. The power of cultivation is not the only one that the Ling clan will respect, but in the Empire and the Emerald Seas it comes with the most responsibility and widest consequences.

Ling Qi grew up without the luxury of morals, and she has found the need to structure them for herself. Following as retainer to Cai Renxiang, the Ling Clan should reflect well upon them. Qingge was this close to dying because of cultivator-fomented abuse.

The Ling Clan WILL instill proper respect for the responsibility that comes with cultivation, and that our ideal is for the uplifting and protection of our Community.

It is through cultivation that Ling Qi was able to bring them here, and through their own loyalty when it mattered to Qingge that they extended their hand.

...that being said, it would also be cool to have like a community picnic in Zhengui's garden. Everyone loves food.

"Hm, should be something fun huh? Why not make it a big party for everyone. You can hire some outside staff so its not just making work for them. Garden out back is big enough," Sixiang suggested.

"That would be difficult and expensive. Could it not also incite jealousy?" Ling Qingge wondered. "My thought was a dinner feast for the four children and their families, where you might speak about their duties, Ling Qi. This combines reward with establishing their position and duties"
Throwing a party for a mortal household is expensive? Based on what I remember of spirit stone to silver conversion rates, these kids probably burned more money in spirit stones discovering their talent than it would take to throw a feast for the household ten times over.

Ling Qingge is probably just not being used to the scale of cultivator budgets again. There might be valid reasons that a party isn't optimal but cashflow should absolutely not be one of them.

"It sure is! Looks cool huh?" Sixiang said cheerfully.

Biyu stared at them. "Messy. Good girls comb."
RiP Sixiang, got told off by a child for their fashion sense.

[ ] Make it something more open, the whole household invited out to the gardens for a celebration of success.

Reminds me of small town celebrations where there's public festivities whenever someone's niece/kid graduates from college or passes the board exams.

They always make for good times.

Sounds like spending a relative pittance on a party has actual benefits in increasing her mother's comfort with and trust in their financial situation, then. Plus, if the other members of the household share her instinctive frugality, they'll parse it as a way more generous gesture than it actually is. Won't hurt to buy a little extra loyalty with generosity, especially if it's cheap.

[X] Make it a more solemn affair, a procession at the site she and Zhengui had built up

I really like this one, it probably wouldn't cost as much, and could be a good way to start a tradition of bringing freshly awakened clan members here to be astonished by it's beauty and mystery, a nice impression of what can be accomplished with cultivation.
