Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
We got one (1) cute fang, so we should get one (1) cute horn on the other side to match. Something something a representation of taking from the past and using it to build the future something.

Plus, you know, all the people wondering how we got exactly one horn, and if the other broke off. We can spread so much misinformation!

My takeaway from this is that Ling Qi needs to step up her educational work and make Renxiang as weird as possible as quickly as possible. Just look at how both Gan and Renxiang got heat for turning someone down, but Ling Qi has zero scorned suitors spreading nasty rumors! Gan is of course a lost cause, but if we try very hard, we can get Renxiang to a point where snooty would-be suitors walk away thinking that they had no chance with that weirdo anyway, and really, they're lucky that she said no.

Speaking of "things I've forgotten because Threads/Forge is massively long" was the formal military service deferred or not? Obviously we have taken part in Sect military campaigns for a few months here and there, before suddenly embarking on this diplomatic venture and half a dozen other things.

What's going on with that, in other words? (Does being a Retainer count as said service?)

It is. You can buy your way out of it (it's basically to pay for your schooling) and Renxiang bought us free of that obligation when we took on obligations to her instead.

We would still be serving under Cai military assignment, but there is some reason to believe our assignment would be near where our fief is to begin with.

NGL, i am a bit disappointed there is only one rumored relationship going around about LQ....
But then, i guess she really only interacted consistently with XS, both in outer and inner sect... 🤔

...what horns? Is there something I'm missing?
Missing horns!

Look, we're trying! None can resist our Ling Qiness but RenRen can resist more than most. We're wearing her down though. She makes a joke every month or so!

She is courting no one, not even in negotiations for a contract. I tell you it is part of the Cai's plot to dissolve our marriage institutions, and turn us into a den of depravity like the Ebon Rivers.

Which is why the largest marriage ceremony in a millennia is being planned in Xiangmen as we speak.

i dont know who this Thousand Lakes person is, but i love them so much. They are my hero

It was the math cabal who wanted archery in the first place. And many of the other miscellaneous oddities. Mantles, archery, so many dalliances...

I wanted ASA.

Ashen Shadow will never die. I was also on the ASA train.

Bah, you horny people. I still say it'd be cooler for Ling Qi to grow a mini-Xiangmen out of her head instead of horns. :V

How about a mini Xiangmen in the shape of antlers?

Who would even court young Miss Cai? One of our princes… or princesses maybe, if Lady Suzhen is very serious. An imperial family member…?
This is maybe my favourite line. There's a lot to unpack.

First, this basically admits that the Bai do see their own White Serpent scions as equal to princes and princesses, which is funny.

But then there's the prince/princess stuff itself and it's got a few layers to it. Suzhen being "serious" can mean a few things, and none of them are mutually exclusive. A marriage between the Bai's upper echelon and the Cai meaning she's serious about the provincial alliance. Marrying a snek princess to a girl meaning she's serious about general reform/forward cultural issues or whatever. And last, which I think is the intended subtext paired to the first meaning, is that marrying out a princess rather than a prince would demonstrate that Suzhen is truly serious.

Cause snake sexism!

The more subtle and enduring offender is the min-maxing that went into pill turns. A number of our less suitable arts early on in the Inner Sect were grabbed from the pile available to us because of pill synergies that let Number Go Higher. And sometimes scrunched 80% of an entire art into one turn, so it was basically invisible. Iirc, we got Storm Enduring Seedling thanks to a music pill, for example. And I don't want to even think about the water turn, thrice damn its name!
