Want makes much more sence storywise doesnt matter that we will have more or less numbers on a spreadsheet, the important thing is that we can win or lose both options and losing by being carefull would be boring, while losing by being greedy seems is pushing character development.
On the other hand motion is the smart move where we will be on more steady path towards better cultivation.
If you like to play carefully, or play the "numbers go up" ding ding, vote Motion/finesse.
If you like go dangerous, or care more about storytelling then spredsheets, vote Want/hunger.
This is an unfair comparison. Both work narratively, otherwise, they won't be available as choices. Both work for pushing character development. Both work towards a steady path towards cultivation. It's just that one path is going the Superman way, with brute strength and the other is going the Batman way with skill and training, and the latter can be worked upon for better use in the future.
But sure, to counter: Losing by being careful means LQ has a skill issue and needs to work more on her sneakiness after all the dream stuff, which can work with doing LFWT the next turn (though I prefer not to) or Paying Respects when visiting our old mentors in sneaking skillfully and heists.
NB: I hope this does not sound confrontational. I'm not used to discourse so I don't want to sound rude.
Missing a " [ " at the beginning of your voteX] Grasp carefully, and with great finesse (70% chance of Success. Normal Gaol benefits. +1 XP to motion, On Failure, lose Gaol Spiritual Cultivation, and ???)
Fuck off with that. I'm voting for finesse because I think being sneaky with a thief is a more fun story than just smashing and grabbing. If you like to play carefully, or play the "numbers go up" ding ding, vote Motion/finesse.
If you like go dangerous, or care more about storytelling then spredsheets, vote Want/hunger.
Okay but that has nothing to with this? Either one we choose it's the same action we are just changing how exactly we are doing it. For a sports analogy this is us choosing to try and make a shot at the 2 point line versus the 3 point line. It's the same action, make a basket, just the difficulty and rewards are changed. In-universe this is a game of skill not luck. Is luck a part of it? Yes but it falls much closer to an all skill challenge than it does luck.
But it's not brute strength. The whole point of the cultivation thing we are doing is that it HAS to be subtle. Like I said before Want isn't a smash and grab its the same action whichever we choose. It's only a question of if we think we are skillful enough to grab more or do we play it safe and us the lightest of touches.
If we lose either way it's a question of subtlety and skill. But if we do lose I want to lose going for the bigger prize. I don't want to lose but I do want more.
Ignoring the concepts, the connotations related to hunger, or well, the connotations related to hunger to me, are lack of restraint and skill so that's how I'm interpreting it.
There's no reason to think its the same action, not really. I mean sure both football and kickboxing involve using one's feet but they are rather different activities.
We are deciding whether we are using this as an opportunity to hone our hunger or hone our finesse. Both are valid but they are absolutely not the same thing and the finesse route is definitely not the hunger route but for cowards or whatever.
