Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Going back to what we know about the clans, we actually know the least about the Meng. Their big hook right now is that they got screwed over by the Bai when they sought refuge but they are a very old clan and that's a fairly recent development.

There's a lot of pieces to the Meng but they currently don't add up to a coherent picture:
1. They are descendants of the Weilu but live in a swamp rather than the forest
2. They are follow the Dreaming Moon, yet have arts that aid them in resisting altered states of consciousness.
3. They are known for being artists, yet their art is among the oldest of the schools (right?) and its not really clear what they've done lately.
4. Despite their seeming similarity on a variety of levels, they were willing to help overthrow the Hui.

So why are there these highly cultured people living in the middle of a swamp that don't want to participate in provincial politics? What's their connection to the Dreaming Moon if they seemingly can't do mind altering drugs?

In comparison we have a pretty solid narrative for the Wang (new military clan that desires respect and values pragmatism) and Diao (assimilation success story).

This talk of insight into the very complicated Shenshua/CRX/Diao relationship feels silly to me. We are getting a general, presumably pretty low level dossier, on what motivates these clans, not some insight into Prism+ cultivators. This information is also explicitly targeted towards the White Sky diplo action. We appear to be CRX's only inroad with the Meng. Let's focus on that.

I like both options between Meng and Diao, but I am attracted to stacking bonuses. Really though, I was highly attempted to just vote for both.

[X] The Diao Clan

Actually, intelligence agencies tend to put a great deal of effort into discerning the motivations and goals of high level people. It would be strange if the Diao dossier had no insight into the Diao relationship with both Shenhua and CRX. So I must strongly disagree with you here.

We actually have a lot of context for that for the Diao clan. Namely Diao Linqin was once married to a Hui, has an extremely possessive Way, and has not-quite-married someone who is about the most obvious with her feelings (and especially her love for her) that it is possible to be. There can be absolutely no doubt in anyone's mind as to how Shenhua feels about her.

Now what about the Hui? We know that they have stereotypically built their entire lives around lies to the point that there isn't actually a person under all of that. It may well be impossible to know their true feelings as they might not even have any. That's not great when you are talking about your spouse.

Going from a Hui to Shenhua is certainly quite the transition and I sincerely doubt the parting was amicable. This suggests that Linqin's ability to trust in the people around her was traumatically broken and she is looking for rock solid certainty in her life to even begin to heal from that.

Enter CRX: CRX's father is Shenhua's sperm donor. No one can reasonably believe that there is any actual romantic affection between her father and Shenhua but this is hitting Linqin right in her trauma and so she isn't in a rational place. Linqin almost certainly knows this but you can't rationalize yourself out of trauma. We don't know that much more about LInqin's Way but I wouldn't be surprised if there were some clashes between the two of them that also cause some tension. CRX's lack of ability to feel anger in normal situations seems like it might remind her of unpleasant memories for instance (perhaps Linqin's ex-husband hid his anger from her, making him quite unpredictable).

As for the Meng and Wang leaders? We know almost nothing of them as people.

edit: oops!

So, any thoughts about the upcoming matches?

1.) Gan Guanli (Green 3)
2.) Gun Jun (Green?)
3.) Han Jian (Green)
4.) Male Green/Yellow
5.) Xian Fen (Green)
6.) Green
7.) Chu Song (Green 2?)
8.) Green
9.) Lu Feng (Green 3)
10.) Older Male Green
11.) Ma Jun (Green?)
12.) Green/Yellow
13.) Han Fang (Green)
14.) Green/Yellow
15.) Fan Yu (Yellow/Bronze)
16.) Green/Yellow

Gan Guanli, Lu Feng, Xian Fen and Han Jian are the "monsters" of this iteration and so they will get three of the nameless mooks and Fan Yu, who is only half Green.

This means that the "real" matches are between Gun Jun, Chu Song, Older Male Green, Ma Jun, Han Fang and three random Greens. Of these eight Chu Song (has been Green for two(?) years) and Han Fang (murder tiger) are probably the strongest.

I'm kinda hoping that Chu Song is put against Ma Jun. Our former minion seems to be following in our footsteps and so it would be hilarious if she would also repeat our feat in humiliating Chu Song.

Yeah the matchups are very interesting and there has been a ton of talk about them on discord.

I had the same idea of Ma Jun vs Chu Song but in that case it's likely that Chu Song would win. Yrs did confirm on discord that she's still only G2 but she's likely to have come up with counters to Ma Jun's build since she had to fight us last time and we have similar builds. Plus Ma Jun also has to deal with the bear and (as far as we know) doesn't have a spirit to occupy it like we did with Zhengui. Though I agree that it would be really funny if Ma Jun did win against Chu Song.

And it is technically possible. Yrs confirmed on Discord that the less important characters are getting rolls to see how well they do in their fights so we just have to hope Ma Jun rolls well if she's against Chu Song!
